Taxman and Stealth have already spoken out about this, and some other bugs. There was a day one update for the game prepared to rectify this, but because of Apple's strict policies regarding updates, they have to wait for approval for the iOS version. The Android version got this update as planned, though.

That' curious, wonder what led them to omit it in this initial release?

It was a bug they only managed to find while the game had already been submitted for greenlighting. In the case of iOS games, this means the bug can't be patched immediately due to Apple's policies, to where you can't just release a patch without permission. On Android, the update was pretty much released right after the game was.

Can someone tell me if the Hidden Palace Zone can be accessed during gameplay (not in level-select menu)? And is the real track going to be placed on future updates?

Em, the means to do so is in the spoiler in this post:

That's how you do it? Odd, I thought they were going to do the original way of collecting all the Emeralds, and then your transported to Hidden Place. Still, having a complete version of this level is a novelty on it's own.

It's unexpected, but that makes it all the funnier, I think. In addition to what it replaces, given its notoriety.

I played some Sonic 2 on my brother's phone, and I played up until I could find Hidden Palace Zone. It's a really well designed level, as is the boss. My only gripe is that they didn't use the original Hidden Palace Zone track, and replaced it with the Mystic Cave 2P track. The latter doesn't really fit the level at all, especially considering it's significance in the Sonic community.

And OOOOH dear, the Special Stages are so much better in this version. They play really smoothly, and your view is better.

I'll be getting the game on my own phone soon, and I'll play the crap out of it then.

EDIT: Also, if anyone ever wonders why I actually like Sonic and the Secret Rings, shit like this is why:

So much agreement on the track, it felt like a missed opportunity for it, but meh, at least we got the stage.

The controls are fine. A little wonky until you upgrade, but I managed to get all of the Gold Medals in the game.

Hm, I dabbled in the storybook series, but I can't remember if I tried out Secret Rings, mind you, given current circumstances, I probably won't be any time soon anyways.

We all know about the Yoshi DLC for Lost World and the upcoming Zelda DLC for said game. Assuming this will be a continued thing (which it probably will), what other Nintendo franchises would you like to see have a DLC stage? Personally, I would like to see a mach-speed F-Zero level, and a Metroid level.

...Who's willing to bet there will be a Mario Galaxy level?

Ech, realistic fur, doesn't really work well for Sonic, more Donkey Kong's thing.
