The Tings Lottery

Post by rolesfamily »

Oh hey. - So when I was a massive noob back on the old RZ (Rayman Zone) the best thing I ever contributed there was a game called 'The Lums Lottery'. I was wondering if we could duplicate the principle here? Obviously it'd be tings instead of lums.

So it'd be like a forum game, so every-time I'd run the 'lottery' I'd say when the deadline for the number draw was.

People post their numbers, lets say 6 numbers like a normal lottery

so say you match 3 numbers you get X amount of tings
4 etc
5 etc
and 6 would be the jackpot

Obviously the numbers can be decided among staff if they're game.

I'd be using a random number generator to pick out the lottery numbers. And people who enter their numbers would have to check themselves if they won. Because I remember on RZ it was far too much work/time to go through everyone's post and match up their numbers to the draw.

Thoughts? :)

I could've sworn there were lottery threads in the past, but, seeing as there's nothing currently up, I guess we'll have to see what the members of today have to say.

Oh well I wasn't aware of that Master, as you know I haven't been here that long. I did check the Off Topic bit and I didn't find a thread like the lottery, but there might be one a few pages back.

It's really down to the staff if they want to help out with the ting prizes. A bit like the Santa thing I guess? Or the win tings by playing games thread

Master ye big disgrace of a mod even you couldn't use the search function.

Yes there was not only a ting lottery but an attempt to revive it (Hence the title of the thread). It was essentially people put tings in the lottery account and the get a random number, if the random number gets chosen then they win the tings in the lottery account.

Hehe, I did make mention that there had been some in the past, and I did actually look it up, however, because it seemed to be dead to me, I didn't do anything.

Quite, although the question now should be whether to lock this thread or merge this with that one since there's no point having two when one is dead.

Hm, quite so, seeing as they differ in structure, and the previous 'un is all but functional, I think we should let Roles do a test run of his format, and see if it comes out any better.

That all depends if others are interested though. The last one died because only a few people continued to do it, and if this one is just going to end up having the same fate then there's no point in trying to do it.

Hm, it has been some time though, and we've seen new blood since then, I think we should leave it open for the time being and see what normal members say, if all indicators show that the thread isn't going to serve much of a purpose, then we close it.

This is demotivating, especially if you allow a large number of tickets per player.

Yeah I agree it kinda sucks to have to check your own, but I remember when I used to do this back in the day it would take ages to go back over everyone's posts and work out who got what numbers. I know you could then say - So why take on the thread if you don't want to do it properly?

I think if the person running the thread has to check all the posts, it'll be demotivating for the person running the thread if they have to spend so much time sorting the result.

I see your point about multi tickets. I only have a 1 ticket per game mentality, I think it'd work because if you did enough frequent draws it wouldn't be a problem.

- And in regards to the thread, I'm happy to do the draws etc, but it's really down to how you guys are fixed to organize prizes etc

I can barely see how it can take as long as you implied in there as all you're doing is a simple search for matching numbers, and I doubt there'd be that many to look up. I will agree with Mat though that it should be your responsibility to keep up with a contest you made, after all people waiting around, checking numbers to see if they can claim virtual currency is a waste of their time.

It does take a while, if you have a lot of entries (which is likely, looking at the popularity of other contest type threads such as the Santa one). - Each person chooses 6 numbers, so you have to check all the six, write down if they got anything, and work it through like that. Well from what I can gauge here is that people value the tings here and enjoy 'collecting' them; so you'd think people would be willing to check their own numbers against the draw.

Although if it'll really kill the thread me not checking the numbers I am open to suggestions of making the draw & matching the number process more efficient. - That's why I've put it to a thread here rather then just going ahead and making the game thread without others input

I think you should just open up the game thread with the ruleset you had in mind, and then go from there. At least that'll show how many people are actually interested in playing and highlight the problems much better than theorising here.

Yeah that's not a bad idea, although I did want to discuss it here because I didn't want to make the thread without staff permission; since they'll be the ones sorting out the prizes etc.

If it's not too cray, I may even check the results properly! I guess we'll just have to get acquainted first and see how it pans out

Why would the staff sort out the prizes or do anything in this at all?

By the way, the chance of hitting the jackpot is 1/13,983,816, which is abysmally low. It's just not going to ever happen on a forum like this.

Well there'd be prizes for matching say 3 numbers etc.

Or the draw could be out of 3 numbers maybe? To make it easier, and more probable

That's why this needs discussing!

and isn't it obvious why the staff need to sort out the prizes? How am I supposed to sort out ting prizes? Just like the Santa thign, that's sorted out by the staff, and also the win tings for getting records on Rayman games.

Yeah, I get that the jackpot isn't the only prize. I'm just saying it'd be cool if someone actually won it at some point.

And no, I don't see why the staff needs to be involved. Are you saying they should just generate the prizes out of the air?

Hm, I see your point about the chances. So maybe if the numbers were 0-36 (like a roulette) wheel? And you only had to match 3/4?

I'm not quite sure how it works here, but they obviously can generate tings otherwise threads like the scores one wouldn't work. Rayrobi runs the scores thread, and when someone wins they sort out the tings with the mods.

So I can't go ahead and make the thread without knowing there is a reward system in place that everyone is happy with
