Well you're lucky, when I beat the game as a kid there were no guides and it took me months to find all the cages!
If SNES version was not cancelled, it would be in Nintendo Power :P

I understand prototype design of SNES version was cancelled but why wasnt Jaguar version ported on SNES? I know they said they wanted to focus of CD, but Jaguar version was not on Jaguar CD and ironicly, R2 was on N64 which also used cartridges.

Hm, while the Jaguar is a bust, I'm pretty sure it was still more powerful than the SNES.
That being said, seeing as the GBA could run a port of Rayman 1, perhaps the SNES might have been able to do so, hmm.

The Jaguar was far more powerful than the SNES, and the GBA is a bit more powerful. Seeing how much Rayman Advance was cut down, I don't think the SNES version would have been pretty. I think Advance is still within the realms of standability, but only just.

The sprites are pre-rendered, though, and they could have made the game look much better via the Super FX chip or something similar.

All sprites are pre-rendered tho. What's a "non-pre-rendered sprite"?

I really wish we could get better quality screenshots of that canceled SNES version, I contacted Pix'n Love about that but they couldn't be bothered to reply.

I have a feeling that the screenshots shown in Pix 'N' Love are a mockup they made at the the time of the SNES development period, using the sprites that they had made. I still believe there to be a SNES prototype cartridge somewhere, but i doubt it is as complete as the images show. I'm still dying to know more about the matter....

Yep, I learned that (the hard way). Whenever you're not jumping to the next buoy, ducking is a great way to avoid the evil fish while you're waiting for your buoy to move :P.

Anyway, my game is now 100%ed, and I have at last unlocked Candy Chateau! I managed to get to Mr. Dark once, but I think I'm going to have to stock up on lives before I make a serious attempt to beat the game. I still can't believe I've got this far. Being on the final boss of my one of my very favourite childhood games is surreal....

Hehe, in all fairness and honesty, the final boss isn't all too bad, the only phase that's rather tricky is with the Mama-Moskito hybrids.

It was the giant Mosquito/Mr Sax thing that threw me.

Anyway, I have done it.....I have SAVED THE WOOOOOORLD!!! (Rayman Advance needs more of that ;))

So much mixed emotions here, it's really surreal to have beaten my childhood game, but incredibly amazing :D

Although, I beat Rayman Advance, which wasn't my childhood Rayman - the PS1 version. Guess that's what I'm going to have to do next ;)

EDIT:

On one playthrough of Mr. Dark's dare , I encountered what might be a strange glitch. At the end of Map 3, where Mr. Dark is supposed to take your fist, he appeared, but he never did the spell, leaving Rayman running to the exit. thought nothing of it, but then when I got to the boss room, it skipped the entire first phase where Rayman doesn't have his fist...
Not sure if it's a glitch, or just Rayman Advance being nice....:P

Hmm, I think there's some trigger spots that one can jump over to prevent such events, I think there's another which can allow you to avoid having DarkRay spawn.

Yeah, I used the Dark Rayman one a couple of times. I did also play through the map with him in, so don't worry about not seeing it through properly and cheating ;)

Getting on the last level of my childhood ps1 game was surreal for me, too! But I was so disappointed when I found icould only fight Mister Dark once per save game. Are you able to go and fight the.bosses again on the other consoles?

No, but you can if you enter 942KV3W9XD in the password section. ;)

My point being: why would the SNES have trouble loading them, when games like Donkey Kong Country worked fine?

Donkey Kong Country uses loads of tiled graphics; Rayman easily has a good ten times as much to load into memory at once. There isn't even a remote comparison as to which game has better graphics:

@Electoon Congratulations! :D You completed the game!

@Hunch Really? Bummer. I also don't believe that SNES prototype cartridges are that easy to find.

Or practically any prototype for that matter; it's been a number of years since the last job lot of Sega prototypes were unearthed.
