It could possibly linked to a handheld Metroid game. I'm not sure, but I think Metroid Fusion had an environment like that.

Hm, I can see where you're coming from, but it looks a tad bit too cartoony for Metroid. But I can see a bit of Brinstar or Sector 1 in there.

It doesn't really feel like it can be from Dark Moon either. Too much organic life, too little of the interior architect.

The cartoony look could just be the result of the overall artstyle of the new Smash. It's the most cartoony one besides the first game. Especially the 3DS version, with the character outlines and what not. So I could still see Metroid Fusion in that, albeit in an adapted style. I wouldn't know the name of the environment I'm thinking of, though. I do know part of Metroid Fusion's plot involved a parasite. And while those bright particle effects could be anything, I think they could be interpreted as parasitic spores. The strange and sickly appearance of the vegetation would also link in with this. The platforms above Mario also have a metallic look, like something from a sci-fi game.

Or maybe, I'm just over-analysing. :I

Hmm, are you talking about the X Parasites? They had a gelatinous appearance, if I remember correctly. Looking at it, I think the environment you're thinking of is either Sector 1 (SRX) or Sector 6 (NOC). That being said, I don't recall seeing that kind of grassy look, perhaps it's a combination of sorts?

Hmm, well this screenshot doesn't seem to have any X Parasites, though I looked at a few Metroid Fusion screenshots, and the environments they infect do end up with tons of vegetation, even if they are initially man-made facilities.

Also, to clarify, this new screenshot is not depicting the same thing as the other single-player teaser form the E3 trailer.

EDIT: So it's the 15th anniversary of Smash Bros today! And the pic of the day iiiisss...

...nnnothing to do with the 15th anniversary. Nice for people like me though, who like Rosalina/plan to main her.

BUUUUT, in the comments section:

So he acknowledged it, at least. And we may get something later in the week in a Nintendo Direct, or even later today. When Luigi, Sonic, and Rosalina were announced, they were actually our second pics of the day on those respective days.

This is either real, or a VERY convincing fake.

A few things to point out:
- The Mario in the picture from any previous screen
- The Palutena model is not from Kid Icarus: Uprising

I've been discussing this all day over on Smashboards. I don't post too much Smash stuff here, especially rumours, as I am not sure how interested others are (for example, today's daily pic was great for people who care about the technical aspect of Smash, like myself. Not everyone cares, though).

Anyway, if you'd like to see the discussion I've been involved with over on Smashboards regarding Palutena, it starts here. In a nutshell, while I am skeptical by virtue of it being a leak, I wouldn't think anybody would care about a relatively niche character like Palutena so much to make a fake this convincing. So I lean towards it being real. I also hold no real bias here, as I haven't played Uprising yet. I wouldn't mind Palutena making it in though.

Am I the only one who thinks it looks too fake?

If it's a fake, then the person who made it did a really good job. I would actually like to see her in Smash 4, I haven't played Uprising (it's on my bucket list), but I've seen some cutscenes, so I like her as a character.

The PlayStation All-Stars rumors were very obviously fake.

That one wasn't convincing to me. Elaborate, but very flawed.

Heh, guess it depends on your state of mind at the time, I believe I was in my pre-teens when I saw it.

Golden DS on 1:00 looked very real to me back then and it does to this day.

Hm, but the Mario and Luigi models are a bit off, they look a tad skinnier and stiff compared to the ones in the actual game.

The reason why I knew Mario Galaxy DS was fake was because Miyamoto had already stated in an interview that he had been working on the gravity mechanics of Super Mario Galaxy since the N64 days. However, he stated that the Wii was the first Nintendo console powerful enough to realise this mechanic. If the N64 and Gamecube could not pull off Mario Galaxy, how the heck could the DS? And I'm not just referring to the graphics here. Those gravity mechanics being present everywhere in the game are not easy on the system.

Even besides that, it just looked kind of choppy, and below Nintendo's own standards of polish, in terms of the gameplay. And the biggest tell tale sign? The high polygon and texture quality. No fully fledged DS game could do that. It's downright impossible. Just look at Nintendo's own Super Mario 64 DS in comparison. If the DS was capable of the visuals in that trailer, Nintendo would of made damn sure to show it off.

Hehe, fair enough, like I said, I certainly didn't have the same inquisitive mind when I first saw that.
