Re: Rayman walkthroughs
I like it because it fills the whole screen and no annoying black bars are seen.

Re: Rayman walkthroughs
The black bars do nothing but make the image slightly smaller on an otherwise relatively massive and high-res screen.OldClassicGamer wrote:I like it because it fills the whole screen and no annoying black bars are seen.

Re: Rayman walkthroughs
Hm, on the whole stretching thing, I won't mind stretching if it's not too excessive, like with GBA games on my PSP, but if it's such that I can tell it's being stretched, I tend to keep it off.

Re: Rayman walkthroughs
Bump!
Rayman 1 Sega Saturn - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL ... 6xSORmSkcD - Complete
Rayman 2 Revolution PS2 Japanese - http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL ... KYcME1D9qZ - Incomplete
Is it even a bump worth? Yes it is! I recorded/am recording them at the best quality that was possible. So far, my playthrough of the Saturn version of Rayman 1 got the best video quality on youtube, that I yet have seen. I compared Saffya's and OCG's by the way. These were not recorded from emulators btw.

Eh, I wanted to make a Rayman Origins Walkthrough but my computer is slow when it tries to record.

And it's also abnormally dark. The L/R audio channels are also swapped, though that's a relatively minor thing.

Re: Rayman walkthroughs
I kinda got used to a stretched 4:3 image and it just feels better to me. I had a widescreen crt back then and I saw the image always stretched and I kinda got used to it.Adsolution wrote:Except for the fact that all the videos are stretched.emshomar wrote:So far, my playthrough of the Saturn version of Rayman 1 got the best video quality on youtube

I'd rather watch a lower-quality video in the correct aspect ratio than a clearer, stretched one.emshomar wrote:I kinda got used to a stretched 4:3 image and it just feels better to me.

Re: Rayman walkthroughs
But if you were going for the 'best quality Saturn Rayman playthrough', why would you shoot yourself in the foot like that? You and for some reason OCG are the only people on this planet I know who prefer it like that (in addition to stretching an image being a crime against art), and I'm sure you know that, so as far as almost everybody is concerned, this would now be far from the best quality playthrough.
Re: Rayman walkthroughs
There are more people who prefer stretched image believe me (not saying that more people on planet prefer it over original aspect ratio but there are definitely more people prefering than you think). I remember on one Crash 2 Let's Play one guy was stretching it as well, and one person asked in comments why doesn't he keep original aspect ratio and he said: "Heck no, gotta stretch dat video" (or something similar to that), and comment got fair amount of thumbs up. Black bars ruin experience for me and don't give me nice view if I play on widescreen monitor. But playing old games is better if not playing on widescreen monitor, I will say that. I think we should ask Remi what does he think about stretching.
I think that saying that his playthrough is far from best quality is unfair because when you look at the sharp picture in the video, you can clearly see how awesome it looks. Now for stretched image that is something opinion based so you cannot just say that it is far from best quality just because you hate stretching.Adsolution wrote:But if you were going for the 'best quality Saturn Rayman playthrough', why would you shoot yourself in the foot like that?

Re: Rayman walkthroughs
Meh fine. It is still correctable by forcing YouTube to play it at a different ratio. Thanks to RibShark, I just will need to add this 'yt:stretch=4:3' in the tags and everyone (except users of any other platforms besides PC or Mac) will be happy! Just hang on, I will correct them when I arrive back home.
Re: Rayman walkthroughs
Nooo
I want it to stay stretched
Also, read my previous post that I edited.
I suggest you edit tags ONLY if Remi tells you.

Re: Rayman walkthroughs
Ok how about I start a poll asking people if they want it stretched or not.
Re: Rayman walkthroughs
Oki, you can do it.

Re: Rayman walkthroughs
Stretching is a bad habit like any other bad habit. It's not supposed to be like that, and any first-glance comparison should prefer the natural aspect ratio that it's obviously supposed to be in. 'Hating' stretching is innate, and you would have had to been forced to put up with it for an extended period of time in order to actually end up preferring it. Seriously, that's a completely ridiculous idea for a poll.OldClassicGamer wrote:Now for stretched image that is something opinion based so you cannot just say that it is far from best quality just because you hate stretching.
I really don't care though, I'm just saying that if you're hosting online and claiming it to be the 'best' quality', I'd say at least have something as basic as the aspect ratio correct.
Re: Rayman walkthroughs
The first day I got widescreen monitor, I played some old games and I they were not stretched. From the first second, black bars started bugging me and it was frustrating for me to play game, so every person is different.
And stretching does not ruin quality since the picture sharpness is still same.

Re: Rayman walkthroughs
And what if you had a choice between running the game in a native 16:9 resolution, and stretching a 4:3 resolution?
Looking at it will give me a brain hemorrhage. To me, it's just as much about presentation as it is about picture quality. You might as well just stretch it to a 128:9 aspect ratio then and have nothing to complain about, mmm?OldClassicGamer wrote:And stretching does not ruin quality since the picture sharpness is still same.
Re: Rayman walkthroughs
If it supports native 16:9 then that is best. I always play Rayman 2 on DC Emulator like that.
