I am indeed a brony. /) Back on topic now. I also really do not like Team Fortress Two.
Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
I also dislike Team Fortress 2. I tried it out once since I was only listening about it, and getting even more popular. I didn't find it anything special, or quite captivating. Its not my cup of tea.

I feel the same way. I never understood the appeal of the game.

*bump that will shake the fucking foundations of this earth*
Minecraft. It simply doesn't appeal to me at all. It just strikes me as Lego: The Game, where you simply build low-resolution, poorly textured figures with blocks. I like having a specific goal in games, not simply building figures at random.

While TF2 isn't my thing per se, the cartoonish aspect of the game makes it quite fun for me to play, and is a good thing to casually play with friends.Haruka wrote:I also dislike Team Fortress 2. Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
I agree, whilst I have never actually played it the concept just doesn't really interest me. The only aspect that kind of intrigues me is the survival aspect which other games have done so much better anyways. I could never see myself spending hours building something either. If I were to put so much time and effort into creating something, I would like it to be something I could stick in a portfolio or use it to benefit myself in the future. Same thing with LittleBigPlanet actually, I enjoy playing the story and user levels, but have never spent time making an elabortae level and probably never will.technology4617 wrote:*bump that will shake the fucking foundations of this earth*

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
To expand on my feelings for TF2 (as stated, wow, a year and a half ago?): I don't necessarily 'hate' it since I'm actually really fond of the graphical style, but the gameplay is an utter mess. The games go flying by so fast I feel absolutely no sense of achievement or fun. I can't stand how much or even begin to fathom why people like it so much either - but hey, I'm probably just missing something here.

The TF2 Characters are reason why I play it.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay for you? Because that's what I was referring to. I'll be damned if you saw me playing Rayman Kart for more than five minutes.

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
I disagree on the gameplay front actually. The mechanics, to me anyway, are solid with tight controls. Granted, I am absolutely terrible at the game (aiming is probably my worst skill in gaming (part of the reason why I'm generally not that interested in 3D shooters), but the mechanics haven't really ever been a reason why I died.Adsolution wrote:To expand on my feelings for TF2 (as stated, wow, a year and a half ago?): I don't necessarily 'hate' it since I'm actually really fond of the graphical style, but the gameplay is an utter mess. I can also admit that I've mostly decided to give a shot at the time due to the cartoony style, but the gameplay didn't really appeal to me.
@technology I also don't get any interest with Minecraft, it just doesn't tell me anything.

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
Gameplay of TF2 is...meh. I sometimes dislike Rocket Jumping and Sticky Jumping mechanics and I think it can be very unbalanced because classes are way different and some are superior and some inferior. However, the sillyness and the quotes characters say is why I keep playing it when bored. Plus, spawnkilling on Mario Kart map is funAdsolution wrote:It has absolutely nothing to do with the gameplay for you? Because that's what I was referring to. Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
Time to amend some bullshit:
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 I really enjoyed, they're my favourites in the 3D era. They're quite poorly designed, they're almost like unfinished alphas of what the final products should've been. At the same time however, I felt nostalgia for them mere weeks after I'd completed them. Why? They had so much heart put into them, and in all honesty, I find that incredibly important. They had a strong vision going in, and while the gameplay for the first game was sloppy, it was rather innocent - almost amusingly - sloppy, and it was an enjoyable experience all the more for it. The game isn't difficult at all, so the sloppiness I rarely found led to any actual frustration, it's actually really fun to jump around everywhere. The second game had amazingly terrible cutscenes and a couple of Knuckles'/Rouge's levels are a bit grating, but the Tales/Eggman levels are pretty fun and the Sonic/Shadow levels are solid and beautiful as fuck. These games are an experience.
Alright, now onto Generations: This game is boring and lifeless. It's so on-rails I feel like half the time I'm doing absolutely nothing and Sonic is just running around doing all this acrobatic shit. It's the very definition of a stripped-down, casual cheeseburger with nice graphics and no substance. Why people like this game I have no fucking idea, but it probably has something to do with the fact that it might've somehow been less shitty than the previous games. I figured that wouldn't be possible, but it's the only hypothetical I can fathom; I haven't played Colors or Unleashed, so I can't really say. Additionally, there's virtually no story or continuity to compliment the game, and what story there is sucks ass. Also, fuck the boost mechanic, it completely betrays the core concept of Sonic and destroys any and all the challenge and fun the game might've had to offer. Unfortunately, you need it in order to get anywhere in the game, because it loves shoving you around tight corners where you would naturally have no means of building up speed normally.
The same goes for Overwatch. Amazing cast of characters and a very well-designed game that is not remotely up my alley. Mind you, my alley is wider than Hunch's vagina, but there are a couple of genres I just don't reap much enjoyment from, and when I start playing them I'd rather immediately go and do something else. I don't even dislike arena shooters as a whole, it's just specifically the TF2/Overwatch branch.
I love Left 4 Dead now. In my opinion, it features one of the best cooperative experiences around.Adsolution wrote:Left 4 Dead
Having actually played some Sonic now, I've got an even better one: inSanic Generators - but I'll get to that in a second.Adsolution wrote:Ah yes, I can't stand Sonic.

I love Street Fighter. It doesn't dick around, it's like a real master. It will kick your ass until you practice, practice, learn and improve. Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
Yes, the Adventure series has a really strange charm to it. Very fun to replay too. In the sense it's a lot like Mario 64 where there are a ton of glitches, but nothing extremely noticeable to the point of being game breaking, a lot of it being fascinating exploits used to speedrun the game. And no, the games aren't difficult, but there certainly was some annoying bullshit. For example, I really think to this day, Big The Cat is nothing but stupid fucking filler, and is not necessary. To be honest, if it wasn't for me ever telling you how to get the lure upgrades and shit, I'm wondering how you'd do on his levels. Big was the very definition of filler though. Even some of the meh-ish characters to play as like Amy still feel like they had few memorable and interesting fun parts. The story is shit, we can't deny that, but there's this weird sort of admirable charm put into it. 06 I can tell tried to replicate this, only for it to be just shit, and not interesting in any sense. For example, that scene at the end of Sonic Adventure 2 where Sonic and Shadow are going Super, yeah I know it's childish, but holy fuck, 13 year old me found that scene god damn badass, and I still find it badass to this day. While it is true that both titles are sloppy, they still in a sense work just fine. Of course, I do think the controls can be better, but as you say, the games really aren't difficult. Despite the controls being shitty, there was never a moment in the game where I fucked up due to controls, every fuck up of mine was my own fault. Unfortunately, a lot of people don't take the time to look back at the technology back then and see why while Sonic wasn't perfect, he still had a very decent jump into 3d. Think about how much of a mess it could've been.Adsolution wrote:Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 I really enjoyed, they're my favourites in the 3D era. Now this is interesting. I know of few people who dislike Generations but not for every reason you listed. I have heard the boost criticism as a very common complaint for Unleashed, Colors, and Generations. Simply put, if you didn't like Generation's boost mechanic, you very likely WON'T like Colors or Unleashed. To be honest, I would almost recommend giving the game another go. If you didn't find any enjoyment out of the modern Sonic stages, what about the classic? Yes, the spindash feels a tad overpowered, but I think those levels deserve a little credit. Anyways, while I actually enjoy the boost mechanic, I can see where you're coming from with the criticism. My problem is the lack of true '3d' sections in Generations. It's incredibly small, and I believe that is because of the boost mechanic. Imagine using that boost in an off rails Sonic game, it'd be hard to control, and I believe that's why Sega went the route of making the game linear. However, if I can give one compliment to the boost mechanic, the game rewards knowing shortcuts with this mechanic, making it very fun to speedrun through these levels. When I watched you play, you died a lot. It came across as frustrating and not like you were having much fun, likely a big mistake on my part to recommend that to you as a first Sonic title to play. I feel like why it's so widely appreciated is that of all the Sonic games it definitely has the most interesting art style. Levels looked god damn beautiful, yes, mostly linear as hell, but they looked really nice. That perfect dream of an open world 3D Sonic game may not be far off hopefully. I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Lost World.Adsolution wrote:Alright, now onto Generations: This game is boring and lifeless. Anyways while we're on the note of this topic, I might as well list a game. I can't stand Monster Hunter. I've tried COUNTLESS times to like it, and force myself to enjoy it, but just can't. I was really looking forward to Monster Hunter 4 when I received my new 3ds but was quickly bored. Graphically the game looked amazing, and on top of that it had ONLINE CO OP so I just HAD to buy it! I was very disappointed which how QUICKLY repetitive it became. Your first few missions involve cooking food, scavenging, etc. which honestly was a huge turn off for me. I get it's a game mostly about survival but I found these unnecessarily tacked on. The 'hunting' aspect of the game was boring as ever too, combat is slow and incredibly unsatisfying, I never got any sense of satisfaction from taking down a monster. You'll have to constantly revisit areas and you get quite sick of seeing the same locations over and over again. To me it just comes off as an incredibly boring grindfest. I can see why a lot of people like the series, but I'm simply not enjoying it myself. Perhaps I'll give it yet another shot in the future?

Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
The classic levels were alright, though I haven't played a classic Sonic game so I don't have anything to compare it to.
That actually makes a lot of sense, I hadn't thought about it that way. That doesn't make me like it any more though.Rayfist wrote:Imagine using that boost in an off rails Sonic game, it'd be hard to control, and I believe that's why Sega went the route of making the game linear.
I replayed a bunch of levels after I played the Adventure games which is what made me come to that conclusion. I actually enjoyed it more on my first playthrough (when you were watching me) because I was dying. It was actually a bit of a challenge at first.Rayfist wrote:When I watched you play, you died a lot. Well I've only played the first bit of the game (I actually forgot I had it, thank you for reminding me), but I enjoyed what I played so far. I found the game to be a lot less manufactured than Generations, with some beautiful, surreal visuals and pretty fun level design.Rayfist wrote:I'm curious to hear your thoughts on Lost World.
Re: That one game everyone loves but you hate
I feel like in colors the boost mechanic is a little less oversaturated, since you can only get it from wisps in that game, though I never found the boost formula to be that horrible since there's still plenty of replayabilty for each stage and the games are still about going fast and improving your time, everything a core sonic game always tried to do or made you want to do, also from what I've heard, yeah the story is lennier compared to other titles but it doesn't make the game as a whole bad, but I respect your opinion.
