Movies you just recently watched

Oh my i'm posting this here- bah whatever.

After some self persuasion I decided to go ahead and watch the Lego movie. I was awfully intrigued by the fact that everyone seems to like it except for my parents for whatever reason. Although knowing such parents they probably expected a full on comedy with this piece, as with many others one would suspect. Needless to say it took itself pretty seriously which was pleasantly surprising as it meant it wasn't going to be one of those seriously annoying kids movies with lame ass jokes spewed all over the place. My only real critique is that I felt the start was pretty slow, although not to the point where it completely bored me, but just felt "eh ok let's see what happens next".

I recently saw ParaNorman for the first time. I'd heard it bombed at the box office, and after seeing it I'm even more sad that it did. The imagination behind it, the animation, the smart dialogue, the morals, all of it is worthy of praise.

This part I don't agree with unfortunately. The moral I got out of it was "We were wrong to not believe Norman, even though he had absolutely no way of proving it to us even if he wanted to." They didn't respect Norman until the dead people finally and literally revealed themselves to them. They didn't learn anything, they didn't reach any moral, psychological revelation that allowed them to learn to accept others on their own, they were forced into it, and they respected Normal because he was the only one who knew how to save their asses. There's no saying they won't now go straight on and bully others by saying "Norman's thing ended up being real though, yours is just in your HEAD!11!". While the movie had nice sub-morals, such as Mitch, who turned out to be gay at the end, something we would have never suspected, I think the main moral, the one following Norman, the reason why he was given respect, was ruined.

Other than that though, it was brilliant. Amazing animation, a wonderful story, fun and thrilling actions scenes, and a genuinely funny movie.

Well, when I said morals I meant the lessons for the audience to take away from it all, that the fear of something unexplainable leads to people lashing out and doing hurtful things. I probably could've worded that better. But you are right about everything else.

I just saw Jobs.

I understand the criticism it receives it receives and why: it's embellished and dramatised. But at the same time, that's one of the reasons I enjoyed it so much. It gave us more of a personal connection to the character than most documentaries would, it makes us feel more like we've learned of Jobs' ventures through having known him personally instead of reading or being told about them. Our memories are usually embellished and dramatised somewhat - we remember the things that made a difference in our lives. This film made us understand Steve Jobs as a person as well as understand his incredible passion, and it was clearly made by people who already did as well. I can relate to it especially, being so driven myself, and this movie gave me so much more respect for the fellow, removing me from my, admittedly, cynical viewpoint towards him. I thank the movie for that too, since most of the things which I've criticised Apple for are things which I've always longed for in a sense myself. Their whole technology market is something that the world needs, it's a vision - not only artistic, but practical; the full deal - brought to life in its fully-fledged form.

The words said at the end of the film were so inspiring to hear, since I could not agree more, and they're coming from the person who founded one of the biggest corporations in existence.

This isn't a film I can really offer specific criticism to, since it's not a fictional construct made up of many different parts, it's one thing as a whole executed as such; however, I need to mention one small, specific thing (not even an essential one) that bugged me since it was left entirely unexplained: It never showed him getting back together with his girlfriend. In one scene it shows him cruelly telling her off, and then fifteen minutes later it shows them married and waking up in bed together as if they had cut out an entire scene showing their reunion and marriage. It's not really important concerning the main point of the film, but it was quite confusing.

I saw Blade a few days ago. Although it was gore mixed up with dark humour and some cheap/exagerated visual effects I enjoyed it. The protagonist would have a lot to hunt if he checked up Twilight.

I like Blade II a lot better. Somehow they got Guillermo del Toro to direct it, so it's a lot more gothic and ornate and occasionally beautiful...

Talking about movies, I've seen the Oscars cerimony live on TV. Now I do want to watch Frozen and Gravity. I watched Mr. Hublot a few days ago, and I think the award was deserved.

I have started watching films from Studio Ghibli for the first time. I just finished Princess Mononoke and recently watched Spirited Away. I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed both. Spirited Away, while weaves a nice tale, leaves something to be desired, and leaves a several unanswered questions about the film's world and characters . I wish Miyazaki would have kept the original three hour version of the film, considering the story, nor world seems all that fleshed-out. Otherwise, it's enjoyable. Princess Mononoke has a much more grander scale than the former, with a bloody amazing musical score to boot, the themes explored made me intrigued as well. Not to mention both films are sheer anime eye-candy.

Spirited Away is one of my favourite animation movies. I like all the oddness going on in it. You should watch Howl's Moving Castle, it also belongs to the Ghibli Studios.

I watched both Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle and all I can say is that both movies are masterpiece.
Anyone who didn't watch them seriously should.

Spirited Away is one of my favourite animation movies. I like all the oddness going on in it. You should watch Howl's Moving Castle, it also belongs to the Ghibli Studios.

I agree, the spirit realm is indeed a very "colorful" place. Also, I will try to watch Howl's Moving Castle soon.

One of my favorite Miyazaki movies has to be Nausica of the Valley of the Wind. It may be my most favorite in the Miyazaki library. I think it has one of the strongest messages I've ever seen, considering it's similar to other messages in most of his movies. And the raw emotion just oozes out of every frame of animation, especially near the end. I won't spoil it for anyone, but the scene following the climax brings tears to my eyes. If you haven't seen it, please see it.

The Expendables 2. It was fucking terrible, but that was exactly what made it enjoyable.

Other movie of Ghibli that I got recommended to watch it years ago was the Grave of the Fireflies. I didn't see it yet but I remember to have been warned to be mentally prepared if I was seeing it due to its heavy nature. But from what I heard, I think that the phrase "Two brothers in World War II" already says a lot. I know what I am going to say next isn't linked with animation but when I watched Roman Polanski's "The Pianist" I did have kind of a mental shock but then, I did enjoy how well made was the film itself (oh my god, the main actor was excelent too) especially knowing its story got adapted for cinematography.
