Was Rayman capable of doing this in other versions?

Hehe, thanks for the replies, Haruka & Em (though remember, no one-worded posts!). Fascinating addition, I had no idea it was a thing in the PC version.

I'm glad they took that out for the PS1 version. The lines and the actor are terrible.

I've got to agree. I not only dislike the voice but I think Rayman is better to be almost mute in R1.

Hm, it does seem to be the case. Though if memory serves, Rayman did have this weird chirping sound he'd make when idling in the PS1 version.

That voice does not fit Rayman's age in R1 or even the voice on opening when he says: "No problem!"
I agree with Spiral as well.

Hmm... it does fit with the "YEAH!" though. Rayman's voice is very inconsistent in the first game. And in the PS1 version, Rayman clears his throat, which I suppose could sound like chirping to some people.

Kinda reminds me how in Sonic CD, Sonic also has unfitting voice when he says: "I'm outta here" and commits suicide if you don't do anything.

Fun fact: Sonic was voiced by a woman in Sonic CD! The same person who sang "Toot Toot Sonic Warrior"!

Maybe Rayman wasn't so young on Rayman 1, I think it was just the art style that made it seem that way. Almost everything looks new or young in Rayman 1, even the tiny limestones that lurk around Dream Forest.

Hmm, I don't think Mr. Dark, the Magician or Betilla looked all that young. Though I get what you're saying, I don't think there was any canon material at the time which really defined his age in a meaningful manner. That being said, there is the matter of the defunct Hereitscool story, Rayman's made out to be 10 years old. And while that might not be canon, it does convey the intention that Rayman was meant to be a kid.

He might have been in his 14, when your voice starts to crack and grow... that probably explains why Rayman sounded the way he did.

Hmm, the only other material I can think of comes from 2D Madness. But either ways, one is free to speculate as they choose, I believe I've shared my perspective, as you have yours.

I do love how impatient characters are in the older games.,

 that's a bit overkill.

I had no idea about that Sonic CD until OCG told it. I also checked it out and I think I would be scared as heck if I saw Sonic doing that as a kid (not to mention the wierd crowd laughters). It looks like SEGA invented the creepypastas.
