Yeah, and what I think's cool about that is that you'll never miss anything you thought of, yet you can always change it up if you like. It's like an advanced version of a storyboard draft. I also really like rereading level scripts and reliving the fantasies of how it will all look and feel.

At least you will have everything planned for when UDK4 is released!

I know this is an odd thing to point out, but I really, really like the background outside of the window. Those obscure, curved trees are wonderful.

Love the artwork! It's fun to get carried away in drawings. |D

I do things in a similar way, but with music instead of drawings (usually, sometimes I use drawings). It's extremely satisfying indeed!

Hehe, thanks. I just noticed I kinda forgot to draw leaves on them. :o

For the music I just kind of come up with melodies along the way, and if I haven't thought of any music to use by the time I write the part the music plays in, I just list inspirations for it or what it should sound like, like this:
Da script wrote:Falling Leaves -- Mysterious, a tiny bit ominous, but still somewhat peaceful, quiet music that has a “falling” melody, inspired by the falling leaves.
Restless -- Inspired by Chrono Trigger’s Confusing Melody.
Sleepless Nights -- Inspired by Chrono Trigger’s The Day the World Revived. Slow, sleep-inducing, sad and beautiful.
A Twisting World -- Inspired by Braid’s Undercurrent, this track is supposed to reflect a strange, dreamlike, surreal feeling of suspense.
Voices of the Heart -- Quiet, a bit of an aural/surreal atmosphere, mysterious and just a tiny bit unsettling. Very slightly inspired by OoT’s Forest Temple.
The Sword Dance -- Inspired by Okami’s Ushiwaka’s Dance. Just as tense, just as Japanese. It plays when the Lunar Koi attack fiercely.
Sparring -- Inspired by Final Fantasy IX’s Vamo Alla Flamenco.
Songs like Falling Leaves and Sparring ended up being made after I wrote their part in the script. :)

I hope so, but probably not. I will definitely have enough to start with though! :D

UDK 4 is near to release, I think! I just checked the website yesterday, coincidentally, and it had a page with SDK on it, but I don't think there was any way of getting hold of it yet.

I'm so excited for UDK it's crazy. I hope projects like this one can find their greatness in that overpowerful engine. I mean, the physics and lighting are one thing, but live editing/playing while coding - to me, that is fantastically amazingly awesome.

It's here! https://unrealengine.com/
But it isn't free to use. Boo. :/
Looks like I'll have to wait until I have time and I'm good enough at 3D modelling so I can use my money optimally. :P
EDIT -> So I was watching the tutorials and I WANT IT NOW!!!!!!! Maybe I'll pay once and stop the subscription so I can learn to use it. :)
EDIT 2 -> You get EVERYTHING with that $19/mo subscription! The full source of the tools... you can modify everything. I'm honestly amazed. I'll DEFINITELY be getting it as soon as I have time to play with it. :)
EDIT 3 -> Looks like Crytek will be doing the same thing soon, and it will be cheaper. I won't have any time do play with UE4 before the paid version of CryEngine comes out, so I think I'll just wait and see what turns out to be the best (I think it will be UE4! That ease of use seriously has me impressed). ^^

Hm. 13 euros a month is not actually that much money for me. I could miss it if I cut back on some other expenses. Hah.

But that's their marketing scheme at work right there. Instead of a massive one-time 4,000 up front, you bleed out some money every month. :P
However, it's a completely affordable way to reach out to people who normally couldn't use this kind of thing while still offering them the capabilities of a 'full' version. I don't remember if you had more options when you partnered with Epic as opposed to using the free UDK when UE3 was still the big guy, but I can't imagine it wasn't like that.

I'm off to watch some tutorials. Then I'll have my mind blown and finally finish that Foutch model I was working on. Then I will make a game. And I will play as Foutch. Forever.

Hm, a subscription model, eh? Seems like everything wants to use that these days.

It's a smart way to get people to swing from the ehhhh to the yeah! It gives he illusion of being cheaper and more affordable, but in the long run, it isn't, of course.

It's actually 19 euros for European countries. :(
I can miss that much I think, but I would want to make the most of that money and right now that's just not very likely.

Unless you buy it once, make your entire game on one version of the engine, then subscribe again (and port your game to the newer version of the engine), and release it. :)

CryEngine also just offered up a subscription fee for their new engine release (with physically based shading, etc), but it's only 10 euros a month. I know I'll be signing up for that when it comes out in May!

Hello I just joined this forum, and i'm looking forward to contributing to RaymanPC. I just found this thread and I must say this game is something i'm looking forward to. But I have a question. Do you plan on making everything by yourself? I can see you've been planning this game for quite some years now, but what is your plan to make this game happen?

Hey there Monzy! Welcome to RaymanPC. :)
At the moment I'm planning to finish writing the entire scenario down to every last detail first, and in the meantime do whatever I can do for the game alone. Once the scenario is finished though, I hope I can show what I have to other people who might help to make it happen. :)

Is it still at 20%? I'd like to know if there's been a bit of a progress update! ;)

EDIT:
And I say that fully aware of how biased describing percentages of development and script writing are. I know I often describe my progress in fractions and I tend to get to smaller and smaller fractions (7/16ths complete for example) because I'm afraid of saying I'm even halfway complete, haha!

It's still at 20% because I keep making the game bigger and bigger. :D

As I predicted before I started writing Dreambound, it's turned out to be quite ambitious and very impossible for a one-man project (like Eclipse was). Unlike the Rayman games, the size of the story resembles something you'd find in an RPG, but that's not what it is: it's an enormous action/adventure/platforming game. There are various intertwining plot lines, each character has an interesting story and these stories take time to tell. There are various little side things to do, too, which also go into the script. I'm writing all of the lore text down too (books, or the Knowledge of the World which is immense already and I'm only 20% done with it).

Well, I guess you could say it'll end up being a bit of a mix between Rayman and the Zelda/Okami/Beyond Good & Evil type game, with a story that'll probably be as long as Okami's. Way too ambitious, but it is my dream project, and I am dreambound. ^^

PS: New artwork coming soon: something original with quite a few nods to past Rayman themes. I'll use it in the Uplay contest. :)

Re: DREAMBOUND - Still writing (20%) + new music!

Haha, I know what that's like, Droolie. I'm practically always writing from the game's progressing timeline's perspective, but that sometimes introduces events or characters who I will then start writing stories for, or I'll come up with something neat that should show up in a later event in the game or something -- I get sidetracked and suddenly my script is another five pages longer than I expected it to be.

Heh, good for you! I'll be incredibly interested to follow this into its further development stages. ~

Thanks Shroob :D
Anyway, here goes...

My entry for the Uplay fan art contest (it will appear on the contest page later today, resized, compressed and with a description that's way too short):

THE CARNIVAL OF DREAMS
A tribute to the atmosphere and attention to detail of the Rayman series.

Image
Click for the full-resolution picture!
Millennia after the invasion of the Robo-Pirates, the Glade of Dreams is once again under attack.
Terrifying walking fish have come from outer space with only one purpose: to eclipse the sun that the people
of the Glade worship, restoring an ancient balance between light and darkness.

When the so-called Lunar Koi occupy the Glade's cities, a new resistance is formed.
On the night of the Carnival of Dreams, a new member steps forward: Blue.
A bit of a dreamer, that one. A bedhead, too. And he walks on socks!

Armed with only the mask of an "attractive" lady fish, he sneaks into the Koi's embassy,
where some unsuspecting guards are actively celebrating the Carnival.
Can you spot all the Rayman references? :)
