Yes, It's probably possible, but I won't as it's useless and too long/hard, you must scan an unknown value, then change rayman animation, value changed etc.

I was thinking about those turning platforms in the room with the blue sphere in the Cave of Bad Dreams and I realised that they use the same texture as the rest of the world! It's just that they're dynamic geometry so they're not affected by the lack of red in the static lightmap.
This may mean that the fact that they're a different colour from everything else may not be intentional. I wonder how the devs reacted when they saw how it looked…

Well, you should hope someone of us find a way or know a programmer to edit levels :(

It is aggravating not being able to crack the games open with the ease that some other fandoms do their own, but we try. Let's be thankful we've made some headway over the last decade, no matter how little.

Is there any chance that R2 uses the same (or similar) map format to any other games back then? Tonic Trouble, obviously, but I don't think that would help us…

Hmm, if it were the case, then surely we'd have found some like game already via a Google search, right?

True, true.
I still have this nagging feeling that the format might be more standard than we think though. It's hard to explain.
Then again, Rayman 2 was pretty groundbreaking, wasn't it? There wouldn't have been any similar engine before, I guess.

Hmm, I guess a bit of research and snooping about couldn't hurt.

It's quite possible the actual encryption of the game files was just as innovative and creative as the game itself, lol.

I do wonder, is there no way to find a pattern in the encryption somehow, to decode it like so?

The GPT files are full of patterns, which seem very redundant. For example:

Code: Select all

I'm thinking these files could benefit from being analysed two or four bytes at a time.

Could be a paletted graphics file, those often have similar patterns where the palettes are found.

Good thinking. There are places that seem to just list off the ASCII characters in order, but they are probably parts of larger four-byte numbers.
Another example. My hex-editor doesn't always copy-paste properly, so this is easier.

Hm, perhaps it's some form of writing binary code in a hexadecimal system, therefore going through two steps of translation before they can be decoded?

I tried that specific encoding format, but returned only a string of ú characters. But it might be something similar to that. Base 32 perhaps?

I thought so. I recognise that that wasn't Windows font rendering. I recommend Okteta if you aren't apposed to using KDE libraries.

I guess I'm not, even though it does feel a bit weird to use KDE stuff on a non-KDE desktop. If it's a better tool though, I should just install it. Which I just did.
