Well, DANG people, let's MAKE it an article!Haruka wrote:I also defend that the Heart of the World and the Great Protoon are the same object, but with a new name since the R2 redesign of the world.
It would be interesting to see the theories of each fan in a single article.spiraldoor wrote:
Come to think of it, it would be fascinating to compile a list of notable Rayman fan theories and try to pinpoint their origins. Maybe it could even be an article on the wiki?I would try to contribute with some of my headcanons.
Or, for now, we could make it a topic! I know we already have this one, but perhaps we could do more with it like try link the headcanons through another topic like previously suggested?

Re: Rayman Headcanons
My own Headcanon is that the Protoon powers the Heart of the World, but is hidden in that remote offshore-Valley-thingplace to essentially make the Heart itself invulnerable. Then, my headcanon of ROTD takes place where something happens to the Protoon (an ultimatum with the guardian/god of time to do something), exposing the Heart of the World, so like, then it Rayman 2s a bit later.

I came up with a theory a little bit like that for RO. That the events of the game happened when the Great Protoon's power was corrupted, thus removing the barrier between the Glade and the secluded Valley.Adsolution wrote:My own Headcanon is that the Protoon powers the Heart of the World, but is hidden in that remote offshore-Valley-thingplace to essentially make the Heart itself invulnerable. And since Betilla's power comes directly from the Great Protoon, I theorized that she turned from a Toon Fairy to a Nymph because Ales mansay, who obviously has limbs, used his magic to corrupt the Protoon.

I totally want to make 'Rayman 2ing' a verb.Adsolution wrote:exposing the Heart of the World, so like, then it Rayman 2s a bit later.

Re: Rayman Headcanons
Speaking of my previously mentioned theory, I have another one about Betilla and the Nymphs.
I theorized that Betilla actually IS a Toon and the Nymphs are really her half-sisters. They all have different mothers, but they share the same father (who does have limbs) because their father ...well, let's just say he got around alot. Which is why they all look different but have the same...build.
Betilla's mother was the only Toon he ever took an interest in, while all the other women he courted were Nymphs. Thus Betilla is the one Toon Fairy in a sisterhood of Nymphs.
I sort of built on this and came up with a little backstory that Betilla is embarrassed of her family and doesn't have a healthy or friendly relationship with her half-sisters. And when the Great Protoon's power was corrupted and Betilla turned into a Nymph, she was embarrassed of it. While her sisters, being the hypothetical ignorant jerks they are, come over to her and were all like, "Wow sis, you look amazing! Those limbs actually make you look pretty now."
And Betilla gets angry at them. And Rayman overhears it and turns to his "aunts" saying something like, "You guys are totally insensitive, you know that?" Or something like that.

Eh, I dunno. Ever since I heard of Ad's idea of Betilla being the mother of the Nymphs, that's been stuck with me ever since.
Re: Rayman Headcanons
Headcanon here! I have an idea why most of the characters in RO and RL look different to how they looked in previous games and why the Valley seems to have been completely forgotten since Rayman 1; in between the events of Rayman 3 and Rayman Origins, there was an enormous disaster that couldn't be stopped and basically destroyed the Glade of Dreams and the nearby Valley. After the disaster had done it's work, Polokus decided that the damage was too big to be fixed and determined that the only way he could restore the Glade of Dreams and the Valley was by creating a whole new universe. So, deep in thought, Polokus began to dream up the biggest dream he had ever dreamed before. Whilst dreaming, however, Polokus forgot to fix the Valley as well and, when completing his work, found that the Valley had been completely erased from existence along with many other things, such as the guardians that guarded his four masks and some of his favourite creations, including Carmen and Clark. This accident made Polokus so ashamed he went into isolation, although he eventually gained the confidence to go outside again and, as compensation for the things he had accidentally erased, decided to spend more time with his own creations, also making sure that he knew them all and remembered them all in case a disaster ever struck the Glade ever again.

I can't remember who had the idea, but I remember someone having the headcanon that the reason why R1 seems to have been completely swept under the rug was because Polokus was disgusted with the Ray-folk, and thus he disregarded them.

Re: Rayman Headcanons
Haha but Rayman was too persistent to get rid of. Also... he kinda saved the world. Thrice. And then some.

I do believe I came up with that one.Master wrote:I can't remember who had the idea, but I remember someone having the headcanon that the reason why R1 seems to have been completely swept under the rug was because Polokus was disgusted with the Ray-folk, and thus he disregarded them.
"Okay let's give this a try... Ew they're gross lemme start again."
Later
"Hey Polokus what's this limbless thing?"
"Uhmmmm I didn't make that."
Re: Rayman Headcanons
I have another headcanon, this time about the Knaarens! It's an explanation as to why you have to get really close to them in order for them to acknowledge you. So, here goes....
Knaarens are a species that have become really shortsighted from living in dark, underground caves all the time. There. Simple as that.

Hmm, or perhaps they're just lazy, I dunno.
Another interesting thing to mull over is why Reflux is the only Knaaren that can be beaten, I've always been one for the Heavy Metal Fist weakness.

Technically it's just his staff though, isn't it?

Re: Rayman Headcanons
True, but it's curious to see that he ends up collapsing if it's just the staff.

Re: Rayman Headcanons
Maybe he was leaning on it. Maybe he collapsed from exhaustion (he was doing a lot of energetic manoeuvres in that battle). Maybe he just head-desked in shame, but there was no desk so he completely fell over.

Re: Rayman Headcanons
Hehe, I guess so. Still weird though that he's able to swat two invincible Knarren aside with that stick, and yet he collapses despite only having said stick broke.
Re: Rayman Headcanons
I like to think that Reflux is directly connected to the staff, hence how he practically died at the end of Rayman 3 when the Staff of the Leptys was destroyed. I theorize that Reflux learned to magically link his own power to his staff, so when the staff was broken, it meant he had basically just been drained of his power, causing massive exhaustion, causing him to collapse. The same went with the Tower of the Leptys battle, except on a much larger scale because there was a lot more power.

Re: Rayman Headcanons
And also he directly absorbs the staff at one point, finalising the fusion between the two in a physical bon as well as a magical one. Bad things happen when you break that sort of thing!

Re: Rayman Headcanons
Seems he was into that whole sacrificing-invulnerability-for-power thing long before he met André then.
