On the topic of YouTube stuff, I now have a new signature that totally does not shamelessly whore out my new channel over at https://www.youtube.com/user/SaveTwo, where we play games in a group and read terrible fanfictions because that's what all the cool kids want these days innit brutha son 420 blaze it and such, yeh.

Also I'm back after a long awaited hiatus. What've I missed?

Guess I may as well ask this now, while everyone else is talking about YouTube.

So I have all of my video quality settings sorted out, and I am happy with it, but the question is - what do I do with it?

I have multiple ideas, but I want to make videos of things people would actually watch, since that's the only way I can eventually build up to having a monetised channel (technically, I can monetise now, but I want to establish an audience subscriber base first).

So if you guys could throw a bunch of suggestions my way, it would be great. For both LPs and reviews, as those are the things I want to start with.

Also, when you throw me a suggestion for an LP, specify whether you want live commentary or post commentary.

Some games I have in mind for LPs at some point are:

Sonic Lost World Wii U (Post-Commentary)
Sonic Generations PC (Post Commentary or Live with others. I am willing to do mods as well as the vanilla game)
Sonic Unleashed Xbox 360 (Post Commentary - I would combine the Wii version with it but The Great Clement already did that)
Rayman Legends Wii U single-player (Post-Commentary)
Super Mario 3D World (Live with a friend, though this will not be possible until later)
Legend of Spyro Trilogy (Post-Commentary)
Super Smash Bros. Brawl - The Subspace Emissary (live with a friend, not possible until later)

For reviews/retropectives (basically games I'd rather not/can't playthrough but have a fair bit to talk about):

Knack
Mario Kart 8
Super Smash Bros 3DS
Professor Layton games
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Kirby Triple Deluxe
Catherine

More modern games are what I want to focus on right now, but feel free to suggest older games.

Also, I do want to do blind playthroughs someday, so feel free to request games regardless of whether or not you think I've played them.

Honestly? I do what I want with my channel. You need to do what you yourself want to do, and not what the public wants you to do, because while the public will help grow your userbase, in the end if you don't enjoy what you do, then it really isn't worth doing in the first place. I've got videos of me and friends playing Monaco and Left 4 Dead 2 not because I knew they'd make me YouTube Megabucks monies, but rather because we felt like playing those games and I figured I'd record us playing them at the same time. We all have lots of fun, and this translates well over to the video and makes it that much more entertaining.
Same with the fanfics, we're really just reading whatever ones are suggested to us. (Speaking of which if anyone has any really funny ones that they've found I'm totally all ears)
Also, remember that it's not garaunteed that you'll even get a viewerbase making what you want to make. Hell, you may not even do that making what everyone else wants to see. Vault Entertainment currently has what, 19 subscribers? And we've been going for 5 months or so now. We average about 30-50 views on each video, and yeah, most of those are likely us rewatching as well. But I'm not really too bothered about making it big honestly, I really just do it as something to pass the time that hey, we all found funny, so maybe other people will find funny too.

So yeah. There's some advice for you. Do what you want, and eventually, the viewerbase will come.
Also, bonus points awarded to you for not including Minecraft and Slender/Amnesia/Otherscarygamehere in your game list. They're like, the "Get a YouTube fanbase real quick" go-to games.
No offense to anyone who does play those on their channel of course, but it's kind of true. :l

Surely the RPC must have like, a topic for people to post about their YouTube channels. I mean I can kind of see why it would be a bad idea, but still, surely there's at least one, right?
...Right?

Don't worry, I only plan to do things I actually want to do, and I'm not expecting to get 1 million subscribers or anything.

I just know that a few users here would have interests in common with me anyway, so it would be nice to see what games they'd be most interested in.

While I partly want to do it for fun, I want to be informative to a degree in my videos, especially since I'll be going solo for a while, as I have nobody to really help me out.

Also, the reason I want to monetise is not out of greed, nor do I believe I can become rich through YouTube. I've been getting student grants and I will be for a while, so I am all sorted for paying for life necessities and all that, and have money to spare at the end of the day. I want to monetise though, because it will allow me to make a few extra bob without having to get some crappy part time job. Plus, getting a job where I live is really difficult right now anyway. I don't even need the money, but my mother pesters me to get a job regardless, even though it will only last me until I go back to college, at which point, I won't have time for a job. If I can make money off of YouTube though, on top of my student grant, then I'll be sorted for the next few years - making money off of something I love. Also, a part time job would hinder my ability to practice game development, while making money off of gaming videos on YouTube could at least keep video games on the mind, and the money I make could go towards even more new games to play and record videos of, as well as better equipment.

As well as reviews and LPs, I have plans to help gaming communities out. For example, there is a Mario Kart group on another forum I frequent, and they will want to make use of the new tournament system in Mario Kart 8 when it comes out next week. So I plan to help them out by recording the tournaments, which should help their community grow, especially if I manage to establish a solid viewer base.

As for fanfics you could read, I recommend checking out "Dr. Robotnik X Edward Cullen", and "Luigi's Whorehouse". Both pretty hilarious.

Ah, well it looks like you've got yourself sorted there. T'was just making sure, you can never be too sure about these things, heh. Glad to hear it, I'd be interested to see how you're doing with all this a few months down the line.

Another YouTube endeavour I might pursue is voice acting. I'm kinda looking to do a video where I just do voice overs for/impersonations of a bunch of different characters, or maybe videos dedicated to certain characters.

I only ever did one video of this, which was over a year ago. It was of a scene from the web comic "Homestuck". These characters don't have official voices, so I voiced them to match how I always read their lines in my head when reading the comic.

That being said, this is an embarrassing thing for me these days, and it does have some noticeable errors in it, so feel free to point and laugh.

Here's the link to the actual page from the web comic:

And here's the video:

Haha, it's so true - I once posted a video on how to do something in Tekkit, one of the modpacks for Minecraft, and posted one link to it on the Yogscast forums, with absolutely no other advertisment towards it, and to this date, it's been watched about seven hundred times more than my other most popular videos. xD

---

sonic, voice over parodies are some of the funniest videos around on YouTube. Now I know my own channel is a prime example of something you shouldn't do if you're looking for a large fanbase, which is post a lot of different types of things (in my case games, and performances on-stage, and piano playing, and game glitches and...) - but then I use YouTube more like I use SoundCloud: as a video host for what I want to show the 'Net.

But yeah I'm fine. how about you guys? and did I miss anything of importance?

Nothing too extravagant, I don't think. RPC Documentary's usually the best place to check any major events that have passed.

What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? Ill have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and Ive been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and Im the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. Youre fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and thats just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little clever comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldnt, you didnt, and now youre paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. Youre fucking dead, kiddo.
