Well, I only posited a physical representation of a theoretical idea suggested by Serz. It just turned out that I decided to go one step further and add text to it.

Ahh well, doesn't really matter at this point, at the end of the day, you ended up with a sig you were happy with.

The minimum quality that the ranks require to even be on the list is that the corners are properly trimmed, even if the image itself is slightly cut off for the sake of quality of the corners.

As for what bad corners mean? Let's look at Dango's new rank as an example :

Had to make the outlines about twice as thick for this to work in tiny rank form.
You see that bottom left corner? It's not the easiest to see but you can just about tell that Rayman's shirt just goes over the template of the sig, which almost makes it look like a diagonal cut on the rank.

Master's is safe from that if only because there's no way the image would touch the corners unless it was off center or too big.

These ones right?

I made some other Princess ranks too.

Most of those suffer from obvious pixelled cornerings. The only ones I can add from there are the first and last princess ones.

Dealing with corners is surprisingly difficult, honestly. I'll make a fixed version at some point.

That's why I usually make it the only minimum standard; since it's such a big one.

I've noticed that when making the ranks for the official ranklist, I've resorted to using a fade eraser sometimes to cut off corners nicely and yet keep the image crisp. You know - I use a pressure sensitive eraser and use my drawing pad to only skim off the edges until not one part of it touches the border of the image corner. What helps too is positioning the images in such a way that it'd be really hard for them to cross over the border.

Why do people have problems with the corners when there's a rank template given on the first page? Surely if you're working from that, you can't go wrong, no? Unless I'm missing something fundamental here.

I'm assuming it's due to how the rounded corners are that makes things difficult, they're actually smoothed, if I recall correctly. That being said, looking over the archive, there does seem to be some avvies there which have corner problems.

Maybe it's to do with the format they're saved in? I find sometimes images totally degrade depending on the save quality.

The template's a PNG, last I checked, PNGs are a lossless format, so there shouldn't be any problems there.

Tily used to be on the official ranklist. She gained a small cult of admirers, including me. :P
