You can see someone ask him if he planned to work on a new Rayman 3D, and Michel Ancel says that he must make choices, and that it's not expected in the immediate future. Maybe a little later.
Interesting, I hadn't noticed that when I listened to it first. He also mentions the 3D RL trailer was some sort of proof of concept of a possible 3D Rayman in the Rayman Legends universe. Too bad - even seeing them consider that universe for 3D Rayman games makes me a little sad. :/
Damn, really? I hope he changes his mind in the meantime, or else I will be sad. I do want a new 3D Rayman game, but not in Rayman Legends style, for the love of Polokus. It is already a bad idea to think about a third 2D game under this style, but keeping the same wacky universe for a 3D title? I do not know if Ubisoft noticed that that part of the fan community wanting a healthy crazy world to return. By healthy I mean the levels of R1 for example.
Rayman Legends sold much less copies than Origins for several factors, and I am confident that one of them is that the crazy style introduced in RO is not a novelty or something interesting anymore. It got old. They must rethink well in the things. I would keep going but I have a train to catch.
EDIT (Since I'm home now): I'm just going to point the classic example of the Raving Rabbids games. The first game was a (general) success. People were finding the Rabbids funny and all, the minigames were fun in group bla bla bla. It was ok for a suppoused single-titled spin-off. Then it comes RRR2. OK, Rayman disguises as a Rabbid in order to infiltrate in their group, but although I personally think that some minigames are more fun to play than in RRR1, it lacked more in the story. We have no idea what happened in the end, but in theory the Rabbids did not leave Earth due to the future events from Rabbids Go Home onwards. If the logic is like this, then the storyline of TVParty happens on Earth. There are no real evidences, I know, but this is my personal speculation. So with the RRR2, people got like "OK, they decided to do a sequel, but a new game should come after.". Then everybody got shocked to see TVParty's release, with much worse general gameplay and a more downgraded role to Rayman. People were already upset after the Rabbids at this point, they didn't ask for a third title at all. And we all saw what it happened. I just don't want a Deja-Vu to appear in this Origins/Legends phase, for the sake of saving the original atmosphere and magic of the franchise that we, the veteran (and oldest) fans had the luck to know and feel in real time.
I'm going to admit that I'm getting bored by the Rayman Origins/Legends style, due to the atmosphere detour that it has been taken since Origins onwards. RO, RL, RJR and RFR are more than enough. I'm getting worried if this kind of atmosphere is to keep going on for much longer, or else Ubisoft will be risking in loosing older fans, including me (and I pray to god that won't happen, because it would go against my will). It wasn't for this kind of atmosphere that I became a Rayman fan. There. End of rant.
