Lums discussion.
So I'm here to discuss the wonder of Raymans world which are called Lums!
I actually really want to hear you guys have an opinion on the thought of having more coloured lums, cause you know, there's more in the world of Rayman that could be made with all kinds of lums!
I even discussed some new colours with some members on RPC.
This is what I got so far, these also include already existing lums and the green lum.
Yellow Lums: 1000 energy of the world.
Blue Lums: Breath and origin of life.
Red Lums: Vital energy/life energy.
Purple Lums: Cohesion of the world.
Silver Lums: Containing power.
Green Lums: Time. (Got this idea because whenever Rayman dies, he just sort of comes back, as in timetravel?)
Beige Lums: Teleporation, making you move from place to place.
Clear Lums: Energy, when exposed to much greater energy, they shape into Yellow Lums.
Teal Lums: Lums made out of solid water, they created and spanned the oceans.
Note: these do not include the lums from Origins and Legends.
Hopefully I can come up with more abilities that correspond with the lums of a certain colour with you guys!

Re: Lums discussion.
Fascinating, we have similar ideas about the core idea behind each of the pre-existing lum types. I'm not really in the mood for headcanon discussion, but I'll leave my thoughts on the Origins and Legends Lums. I take them to be the base type of lums, during the events of The Disc, some of these base types fused and came together and created the coloured lums, however, not all of them did, and so they remain as mere fragments of basic energy.
Re: Lums discussion.
Ahem, Orange Lums!
Though, on the topic of these Lums I think they well thought out.

Re: Lums discussion.
If we're thinking of lums as atoms (something I'm not sure I agree with at this time), maybe we should consider the four lum types from the Knowledge of the World as being associated with the four elements. (I know, I'm quite taken with those at the moment, but hear me out.)
Purple = Earth (they're the only ones capable of holding things together in a solid form)
Blue = Air (obviously
)
Red = Water (also a very fundamental necessity for life)
Yellow = Fire ("pure" energy)
What do you think?

Re: Lums discussion.
I couldn't help myself, given the element idea.Red, Purple, Yellow, Blue.
Long ago, the Glade of Dreams lived in harmony, then, everything changed when the Robo-Pirates attacked.
Only the Polokus, master of the lums, could defeat them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished.
Re: Lums discussion.
I'd just like to point out that lums look similar to tings, since they are both balls.
Now give me some tings for my amazing discovery.

Yeah seems logical honestly.PluMGMK wrote:If we're thinking of lums as atoms (something I'm not sure I agree with at this time), maybe we should consider the four lum types from the Knowledge of the World as being associated with the four elements. If we take Plum's theory, we can say the Glade of Dreams is made of invisible lums that act like simplified molecules and assure the cohesion of the world. IE the air one gasps is made of air lums with interlumars interactions.

Re: Lums discussion.
You could expand this to say that Rayman is a being composed of those elemental lums making him an Avatar like being, which would also explain why he's able to use the lums to help him in his adventures.Master wrote:I couldn't help myself, given the element idea.Red, Purple, Yellow, Blue.

Re: Lums discussion.
The French RayWiki claims that black lums aren't made of energy. I don't believe this for one second, but now I'm wondering if there was an official source stating this?

Re: Lums discussion.
Hmm, while I'm more for the dimension idea (Space, time yadda yadda yadda), the idea that Rayman's being comprised of lums giving him a unique make-up is one I like. Headcanon accepted, as I believe the phrase goes.

Rainbow Lum -> Invincible character for a temporary ammount of time *Gets shot*
Just a thought. What about transparent Lums for temporary invisibility?

Re: Lums discussion.
Hm, it is a bit funny in retrospect that Rayman doesn't have an invincibility power-up akin to the likes of the Starman, Invincibility Candy, Aku Aku masks and so on. Guess that's how the gameplay style goes. As for the transparent lums, why not? Rayman has brushed the stealth genre before, might be quite a fun gameplay thing.
Re: Lums discussion.
It could have an interesting functionality for a level where hiding from a very dangerous area would be crucial for survival. Rayman did have to hide from the Knaaren but there were places to hide and run too. In other words, a transparent Lum for a wideopened area with lots of wary enemies.

Re: Lums discussion.
Perhaps take a few cues from BG&E, eh? Incidentally, I'd be game for an open world Rayman game, being able to freely explore the Glade of Dreams is a most alluring thought.
Re: Lums discussion.
Now that would be a quite a dream! Visiting a wideopen Glade. But we all know it is utopical, sadly. At least I go to everywhere I want in the Glade when I dream!

Re: Lums discussion.
I dunno, with games like The Elder Scrolls, and various sandbox games, having an open world Glade doesn't seem all that difficult from a technical point of view. I guess what matters then is how it would play.

Re: Lums discussion.
An updated R3 build that allowed for easy navigation and Ancel-style innovation might work well for a OpenGlade game!

Re: Lums discussion.
Now I love that, that's a really interesting idea! I could think of something similair to like with the Barrel robots in Rayman 2, but instead of knocking off a bit of health, you just die instantly. So you'd pretty much have to hide behind random objects and don't get killed while trying to kill them (My idea expansion) Sounds neado yo.Haruka wrote:It could have an interesting functionality for a level where hiding from a very dangerous area would be crucial for survival.
