We completely obliterated Spain >:D
Re: FIFA World Cup 2014 - Brazil
Oh my god, I watched it and Spain was completely beaten up. I think we already have our revenge from four years ago!
Re: FIFA World Cup 2014 - Brazil
I usually don't follow events like this but thanks to Google, I found out that tomorrow, Japan will play against Ivory Coast. I won't miss that.
EDIT: Now I remembered why I avoid watching events like this. Japan lost and it made me sad

Bah, Pepe headbutted Muller.
It's currently 3-0 for Germany here, but since Portugal is playing with 10 men now the counter will probably rise.

Re: FIFA World Cup 2014 - Brazil
He didn't. In the slow motion camera it is clearly visible he only pushed forward for a while, but Müller started whining to make it look like one. Of course Pepe didn't do the right thing, he should have contained his rage.Rsandee wrote:Bah, Pepe headbutted Muller.
Portugal needs to reeinvent the strategy if they want to minimize the damages of the match as possible. They need to be faster in order to not allow the German to calculate their positions. So far they had too many ball possession.
Plus, the refree(s) is surely bought or contracted. I saw Müller whispering something before the start of the match to him. And the refree seems to never have miopia when it is Portugal doing something "bad" (while the majority of the falls are just the players whining). The first penalty was stolen too, there was no shirt pulling whatsover.
I have little doubts that this will turn around but I'm very frustrated and disappointed with this unfair exibition. Portugal should have done more too, I expected much more from them but above that, everybody is in favour for Germany. It was a whole match built in favour of the German. Even the refree got hit by the ball twice and did other craps. Where's fairplay after all? Be real men and don't contract refrees for christ's sake.
EDIT: 4-0, I don't know why ours are failing so much the interception of balls and the goalkeeper did such mistake. I'm out of here.
Re: FIFA World Cup 2014 - Brazil
Portugal has always tough matches about faults, cards and all that stuff. Do you remember last WC? This quarterfinal against Netherlands was crazy, like 3 reds and tons of yellows.
I saw Ronaldo getting very mad at the referee for the refused penalty around the 70th min. This one was completely valuable, but the referee did nothing. Sad.
For the first time since 1998, France won its first match of this phase. We were either having lots of ties or crushing defeats at the hands of 80ish countries. Our team looks good this year, thanks to the new 23/24 years old guard which won the WC title for under 21s if I remember correctly. Also we got rid of trashtalks and bad behaviour. Freaking bus strike, made us look like bad people last time. Anyway, our group is VERY easy, aside from Switzerland, so we shouldn't have trouble going into the round of 8. But after that, I think we won't make it upper. We don't have Zidane to save our asses this time :/...

Like I said, bought refree. I also saw that moment and got really mad.saerleya wrote:I saw Ronaldo getting very mad at the referee for the refused penalty around the 70th min. This one was completely valuable, but the referee did nothing. Sad.
The French do seem to be better in this championship, at least they started well by winning 3-0.
Anyway, nothing is lost. As long we keep the second place in our group ( G ) we pass to the next phase. And during that Germany might not have the same luck as in this first match. However, Portugal must definitely improve from the next match on, or else they can say early goodbye to the world cup.
EDIT 17/6/14: Just watched Brazil VS Mexico. Now this was a real match, a super match. I think the goalkeeper of Mexico was the star of the whole thing. This was a truly enjoyable match with fairplay and a serious refree. Unlike the circus of yesterday, right German team?
Re: FIFA World Cup 2014 - Brazil
This World Cup is great. There have been so many goals and Spain has been getting styled upon.
Hopefully Russia wins against Belgium tonight!

Honestly, I am shocked that Spain was the first team to be eliminated. Its pretty ironic for the World champion, to not say truly embarassing. England seems to be out too.
Looking forward for Portugal VS USA, lets hope that Portugal plays better this time!

I'm not really a football fan, but it's an interesting one to see England get out so quickly. That really wont please the advertisers or pubs! I don't really care either way. But I think with these well established teams they're not hungry for the win anymore. They're all making too much cash to put themselves properly out there and play to the max. That's why these smaller teams have much greater chances because they've got a fight in them. I should probably always bet on the underdog. Rocky 'nd all that.

I laughed at that statement more than I should, given my own disinterest.

I'm no football fan at all, but watching your country's games in a pub is kinda fun I have to admit, it's all about togetherness.

Meh, guess my introverted tendencies prevents me from really getting much out of it, still, it's an event plenty enjoy, so I don't complain.

I can relate to this post.Hunchman801 wrote:I'm no football fan at all, but watching your country's games in a pub is kinda fun I have to admit, it's all about togetherness.
I hate local football, because I hate the fact that players can literally be bought into a team. It becomes a question of which team has the most disposable income to lure players from all over the place, rather than which team can coach and train the best people. Butthen I am quite a traditional person.
The World Cup though - that's a different kettle of fish. It's more about national pride and celebrating with friends and family. And football itself is a fantastic sport. It's just FIFA...
Re: FIFA World Cup 2014 - Brazil
Those are my exact thoughts. When it is normal football, I really don't give a care about that and I totally ignore whatever it is going on. I'm not even a football fan. However, when the European and World cups events arrive it is a completely different story. It is that time there are no rivalities of what's the best club, where everybody is together and support the very same team. Everybody is Portugal at my country and not just Benfica, Sporting or Porto. I like how everybody gathers to watch the matches and enjoy. I like to see the other countries playing and having my own opinions about the performances although I really know nothing about football.Hunchman801 wrote:I'm no football fan at all, but watching your country's games in a pub is kinda fun I have to admit, it's all about togetherness.
Portugal is in a tough situation now. We really depend a lot of Germany winning to the USA in order to still have a hope of passing to the next phase. The last goal in the 20 seconds before the end of the match was a real magic coming out from nowhere, I thought we were already out!
