Do you say 'Hay fever' or 'Allergies'?
This is a dumb little poll that'll die really fast, I know, but I'm just curious. I've never used the term 'hay fever' in my life, I've always said 'allergies', even though I'm referring to the same thing. Like, 'ack, my allergies are kicking in again'.

Hayfever's only really about the pollen allergy and nothing else. Though whenever I've had allergic reactions to pets (ie rats like I did last year) I was recommended to take hayfever tablets and they did the trick.

That's it.Oh non mes yeux, encore ces putain d'allergies.
In fact in France it is more the older people that use the term Hay "Rhume des foins" Fever.
Re: Do you say 'Hay fever' or 'Allergies'?
I say allergies, I thought hay fever was an illness like the cold or the flu.

Nah, Hay Fever's pretty much what Cairnie's described.

I always say hay fever, never have described it as 'allergies'. I guess it's down to who you surround yourself with, my family has always described it as Hay-fever.

I've always said allergies myself, but I may have used hay fever before.

Hmm, seems we're of even split in our terminologies at the moment.

I do recall getting hay fever once but otherwise I have pet allergies.

I supposed hay-fever does count as 'allergies' because there are different types of plant/pollen that people are allergic too.

Re: Do you say 'Hay fever' or 'Allergies'?
Well, I have hay fever, which is a specific kind of allergy, so I refer to it as such. I use "allergy" when referring to other kinds of allergies, but I don't have any other allergies that I'm aware of, nor do I know of any specific terms for other allergies (for example, a guy in my secondary school was allergic to flour, but I don't know if there is a term for that).

Hmm, from what I can fathom, this topic is referring to how we refer to "Hay fever" itself, and not allergies in general.
Re: Do you say 'Hay fever' or 'Allergies'?
I'm pretty sure 'hay fever' is a different thing to general allergies, in the way Stacey described. And since I don't suffer from hay fever I've never found the use to use it instead.

And I answered that, I just spun it off into something else for a sec, for elaboration's sake.Master wrote:Hmm, from what I can fathom, this topic is referring to how we refer to "Hay fever" itself, and not allergies in general.
