Roles, do you really have an OCD? Or are you just someone who claims to have one to appear fashionable?

Re: Ninth edition of the posts in a day record
I check that things are shut and doors are locked probably at least 3 times? Does that count?
Is it trendy to have OCD now?
and haha Shroob, you're such a hero!

Non. As someone who actually has OCD, I find these dishonest/insignificant claims to be rather annoying.

Re: Ninth edition of the posts in a day record
I'm one of those people who needs everything in straight lines etc. I take it that's not true OCD?
I can get really fidgety in an exam situation though. It usually happens when I'm writing out a procedure for setting up a titration in Chemistry. I've done it so many times before, but it's really detailed and I keep thinking I'll drift off and not finish the question on time. It's usually a physical relief just to be finished that part of a question.
Likewise in my Irish exam a few weeks ago we were told we had five minutes left and I knew I could finish the question in that time, yet I was so afraid that I would screw up my handwriting (which didn't really matter since it was still legible) that I worked myself into a huge panic and almost felt like I was about to have a heart attack (all for the sake of a few measly sentences). I got it done but my discomfort was clearly visible to the invigilator, who asked if I was happy with it after I handed up the paper.
Are these signs of true OCD?

Re: Ninth edition of the posts in a day record
I think it's safe to say that we all have things like what Roles mentioned that bother us, but what clinically defines OCD is that you must perform these compulsions or you'll never hear the end of it, you can't simply think it away without feeling distressed for quite a while. They must also noticeably inhibit your ability to function normally on a regular basis and take up an intrusive amount of time every day. Essentially, there isn't an aesthetical difference between 'true OCD' and what's considered more normal, rather a line drawn based on one side of the bell curve and its severity.
People like things to be organised and symmetrical, that's completely normal and a part of our biology. Clinical OCD is a thing when the want to have things as such is so severe that you will literally at almost any cost go out of your way to make it so. Luckily, my compulsions are almost always quick, such as facial tics, and generally don't affect anyone else in the immediate situation, aside from being visually obvious, though on a few occasions I have had to just get up and leave if I get into a compulsion-fit. Most of my more time-consuming compulsions and unsettling thoughts occur when I'm alone, as there's less to distract me.

Re: Ninth edition of the posts in a day record
Ah sorry about the OCD thing, didn't think it'd cause a bit of upheaval. I was only saying it in a light hearted manner, and yes I know OCD isn't a joke. Don't worry though, I'm not the type of person who walks around saying 'YEAH I HAVE OCD!' I wouldn't describe myself as having OCD. What I was trying to say that it was bothering some of my OCD traits. - I'm not sure what else to call them

Re: Ninth edition of the posts in a day record
I have no problem with people saying "I'm being/acting OCD", because you can say it in the same way you might say "I'm being/acting retarded"; you'd be acting like it, but you aren't actually retarded. What bugs me is when someone says "my OCD", because that's like saying "my autism", which is something no one who isn't autistic would ever say even in a light-hearted way for no reason, and not because it's offensive, but because it makes absolutely no sense. Though, I find OCD in particular to be something severely misunderstood, much moreso than autism - just look how often people ask the OCD person if they have OCD based off of a few random bouts of unwarranted anxiety they've encountered, - so I can't help but be feel even if only a little offended when jokes are made out of ignorance rather than actually understanding and then satirising. - Keep in mind I'm not specifically referring to you here, I'm just speaking in general about this sort of thing.
If you don't actually have OCD, you don't have "OCD traits", because the whole idea of qualifying for clinical OCD is actually being "obsessive" over these compulsions, which you aren't if you don't qualify, and therefore you don't have "obsessive-compulsive disorder traits".
- Nooooot to make a huge deal out of this.

Re: Ninth edition of the posts in a day record
Yeah, I probably shouldn't have said 'MY' that is misleading. I'm sure you can tell I'm genuine when I say that I'm not the sort of person to use a false label of something when I don't have it ;P So what I should say is that I'm 'acting OCD'? Rather then saying it's an OCD trait, it's 'like' an OCD trait?
Re: Ninth edition of the posts in a day record
Well, my previous post was sorta a joke. People don't really give themselves false labels when it comes to it but they do tend to talk about it with sheer ignorance of the true condition.
Doesn't bother me at all of course - it's just one of those things people do.

Re: Ninth edition of the posts in a day record
So it was decided for the August 2nd. For now I think I can participate for the 100 posts like I said before, unless something happens in the meantime that compromisses my availability.
Re: Ninth edition of the posts in a day record
Perfect date for record day, I am free on August
Re: Ninth edition of the posts in a day record
I don't recall seeing the counter last year, but then again I'm not very attentive, haha
I also missed it last year by a couple days so I'm definitely going to try and make it this year

Just noticed the counter, being the dumbass I was when I saw the counter I thought record day was going but then I noticed it's just a countdown thankfully, lol.
