Re: Rayman Legends
Well, yesterday, in the "In my pants" game, I said that I have certain personal reasons that this game breaks my heart somewhat. I might as well post them here, even if they may seem a bit silly.
As anyone who has played the game knows, Polokus dreams five copies of the Magician, who then go on to invade the five different worlds in the game. The thing is, when I met these Magicians in the game, I felt a surprising surge of hatred towards them, because of the betrayal of their predecessor, and because of the way they were now treating the other Teensies. Of course, being a silly Ubi-Art game ("silly" here meant in the best possible way), I'm not sure if it's even supposed to provoke such strong emotional responses - please correct me if I'm wrong.
Anyway, following this through, I felt smugly satisfied each time I [sent one of them to the hellish planet where they will be poked up the backside by demons for all eternity]. Naturally I got a good laugh out of the music that this ended up producing at the end of the game.
I got back to thinking though. I grew up playing Rayman Junior, in which the Magician plays a central role (he's much more important than in the original game). As a naïve youngster and only child, I had come to regard him as a father-figure for Rayman (and Bétilla as a mother-figure, but we're not talking about her here). Yet here he was (or more aptly five clones of him, but they're basically the same person) behaving appallingly, and it was my task to eradicate him.
This made me feel very conflicted and hurt, as if I were myself the game character who had been so terribly betrayed. How could I (and my father, who often helped me with Rayman games when I was young) have so misjudged this character? Was I really now deriving sadistic pleasure from disposing of one of my childhood heroes? (Maybe "hero" is the wrong word here, but I'm having a lot of trouble putting this in words in general)
Now I think I realise why some people have come up with theories that have "tasseled with Brad's tangerines" (
), but I'm not going to do that myself. As far as I'm concerned, that's just denial.
This probably reads like nonsense to most of you, but if you have read this far, thanks, I guess!

Re: Rayman Legends
I have the same feeling towards the Magician, in Legends at least. I never grew up with Rayman before just last year to have any sort of attachment to any of the characters. But in Legends, I did feel that urge to do away with the little bastard.

Re: Rayman Legends
Yeah, that's one of the biggest and most lingering problems I've had with the UbiArt saga, how they've gone about with the Magician's betrayal. As charming as I found the scene in "The Reveal!" I'd have rather seen something which put into perspective the true effect of having such a character causing such a betrayal.
Re: Rayman Legends
@PluM
I feel completly same about this.

Re: Rayman Legends
A bit off topic but does anybody know the status of a new Rayman game or if there's even is one?

Re: Rayman Legends
Other than the update for Fiesta Run, I don't think there's any news for a new Rayman game. It will happen, we just don't know when.
Re: Rayman Legends
I know what you feel, Plum. It is still for me a shock to see the Magician to be the "bad guy" now, while I did share sympathy in the R1 universe. However, I did feel like I just released from some weight on my shoulders when I sent him to that moon with the devils in Rayman Legends. Afterall he was being a little bastard in the game (and before, but we couldn't really revenge).
@DandyGuy I fear that Rayman is again into a hiatus state, at least until June of 2015 in case something is revealed to be in development but I honestly believe that we won't see any more novelties until June of 2016.

Re: Rayman Legends
I still hate how everyone thinks Ales Mansay is the same as the Magician... for me he is just a Mister Dark fan that pretended to be the Magician...
Re: Rayman Legends
Well, if he wasn't a magician he wouldn't do magical tricks. But it makes me think: have we seen him doing magical tricks in the games of RO and RL?
Re: Rayman Legends
Aside from being in hat in RO, nope.

Re: Rayman Legends
Well, YMMV on this one, but it's one of the Dark Teensies who turn Rayman and co into ducks in Fiesta De Los Muertos.

Re: Rayman Legends
I'm assuming that's your own version of the whole "jimmies" thing?
Either ways, I'm on the side that believes Ales is the Magician, crazy retcons and betrayal included. I like the fact that he ends up betraying the gang, to be honest, my gripe is with the execution.

Re: Rayman Legends
For some reason i just can't, i always loved the Magician as a kid in the classic DOS Rayman games and he was always very caring about Rayman :/
Why would they even change him into a Teensie? i thought they dropped that stuff that Rayman is the only one of his species

Re: Rayman Legends
Kevirayman15, You're right. It is sad that the magician become evil... I liked it in the old games too.
