Yeah! Planes kick ass, the feeling of boarding one, the astonishing view, the smell of most commercial airlines' internal pressurisation, it's all so exciting. Even waterplanes (just got off one last week) with their loudness (sort of like what Gwee mentioned on the last page), if you use the earplugs correctly, it's all great. As for these 'four foot drops', that's just some turbulence, it happens on most flights! I actually quite enjoy it, it's like a momentary rollercoaster, and I love rollercoasters.

Well, nothing is inherently offensive, not even the word 'retard'. Offensiveness is all a matter of context and intention, though, I think that it's clear in this case it was meant to be offensive to some degree.

You'll certainly wish you weren't younger at that point, but being 17+ can actually be more frustrating than being 16-, as you gain so much more responsibility. I found 17-18 to be the time which I really felt more like an adult, and if you're still living at the home with people who aren't willing to talk to you on their level (which would be the general case with most homes), you're going to be bashing your head against the wall until your brain starts bleeding.

Speaking of planes, the one I took after stopping in San Francisco was dreadful. It was pretty small, but that wasn't the worst of it. The worst of it was the insanely loud propellers and the deep vibrations. I had to keep my ears plugged with barely adequate stoppers for around an hour. I'll have to take another plane like that again when I leave Arcata. Luckily, I'll be transferring to a quieter plane on the way home.
