@SonicBrawler
What I never knew about Ubisoft and Ancel's relationship with Rayman is if Rayman is tied to company or if Ancel leaves company he can take Rayman with him. I remember that Insomniac games signed publishing deal with Microsoft for Sunset Overdrive because Microsoft allowed them to keep the rights to character and be able to use him later in any shape or form even if it won't do anything with Microsoft. I have yet to find official source that confirms in what kind of relation is Rayman with Ubisoft and Ancel. Unless you guys can find me source that confirms that Ancel does not have full control over Rayman, I can speculate that he approved usage of Rayman in SSB without any extra paying or anything.

Re: Rayman (kinda) confirmed for Smash Bros.
This is crazy man. Just crazy. Thank God I saw the trophy AFTER learning that the two new characters were from Fire Emblem, or there would have been disappointment abound!
I might sound really uneducated and stuff with this, but is it possible for a dedicated fan to maybe say create a Rayman model in Smash Bros, and then patch it in or something? I know it sounds stupid, just spitballing ideas. This whole trophy thing got me hyped for Rayman and I might not be thinking straight.

Because you posted a link to an Imgur page containing the image, not a link to the image itself. Click on the image in the page and you will get a direct link.ikke471 wrote:can't img it for some reason

@OCG, look no further than the copyright declarations included in any Rayman title, note how it says Rayman is a registered trademark of UbiSoft Entertainment, not Michel himself.
@Saber, ah, been a while, how've you been? As for your question, I think I've seen people mod Rayman over existing characters, like so:

Fine, thanks!Master wrote:@Saber, ah, been a while, how've you been?
Ah, interesting! I suppose playing as Rayman hacked over Falco is better than nothing, eh? Here's to hoping this will be possible in the new game so I can live out my elementary school fantasies.Master wrote:As for your question, I think I've seen people mod Rayman over existing characters, like so:

I'm still rooting for Layton to be playable tho. :cSegaNintendoUbisoft wrote:If 3rd party trophies are a thing, I wonder what other ones we'll see? Maybe Bayonetta and Professor Layton? Also, honestly not a big fan of the pose Rayman has, he looks like he's tripping balls.
While Rayman was part of my "unrealistic" wishlist, Layton is actually on my realistic list. He's the most wanted character for the game in the UK, apparently. And I've seen him come out on top on quite a few polls, beating out third party characters like Simon Belmont (who's a really popular request).
The thing about Layton is that while he is a third party, Nintendo published the games everywhere outside of Japan, and handled the dubbing too. So the way I see it, Nintendo are responsible for the version of Layton Western players came to love, since they re-did certain aspects of the games.
Not only that, but Layton's games have been system sellers for Nintendo DS and 3DS. A lot of people actually think he is a Nintendo property. That's how close ties between Level 5 and Nintendo are. So I feel like he's actually one of the more likely third parties outside of the Big Three (Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man), if we get anymore. Sakurai is also friends with the creator of Layton (can't remember his name off the top of my head).
I considered Rayman an unlikely candidate to show up at all, though, because his connections to Nintendo are not very outstanding. I'll be gobsmacked if Layton doesn't even get trophy himself, and isn't playable either.
-------------------------
One thing that's seriously bugging me about Rayman's trophy pic is Sakurai's caption. Normally, when he introduces a character via trophy, who hasn't been shown in the game otherwise, he teases about them not being a fighter, and/or gives them an introduction of some sort. He doesn't do that here, though. Instead, he goes straight into talking about how Ubisoft made the model, and then commented on the big workload trophy creation presents. He talks about it like we already knew he was in the game.
Either way, this whole thing just came out of nowhere.

Not to be a pill but I think the title of this thread should be changed. Some people might see it, think he's actually playable, and get disappointed.
Re: Rayman (kinda) confirmed for Smash Bros.
Well ya never know what could pop up.

I agree. Let's wait for the game.Bradandez wrote:Well ya never know what could pop up.

I don't really think Rayman might be in Smash as a playable character, but all this info is driving everyone crazy.

Nothing against Layton, I know perfectly well about his history with Nintendo. I was just listing possible 3rd party trophies.sonicbrawler182 wrote:I'm still rooting for Layton to be playable tho. :cSegaNintendoUbisoft wrote:If 3rd party trophies are a thing, I wonder what other ones we'll see? Re: Rayman (kinda) confirmed for Smash Bros.
Hmm, I think that I ought to merge this with a previous Rayman smash thread now, seeing how this was made on impulse, and the topic at hand is more dubious now.
Re: Rayman (kinda) confirmed for Smash Bros.
Wow, you rarely see people think this positively on the internet. I too am like this and it kinda disgusts me how negative people usually are. It's like 90% of people have given up on everything and act emotionless towards anything just because they're scared of disappointments.OldClassicGamer wrote:You are acting like you gave up. Positively? He's criticising people for sharing their point of view, that's inherently negative. When there's no clear answer, if you have a thought-out perspective, you're completely neutral, and you can't logically feel sickened by that.ripa9 wrote:Wow, you rarely see people think this positively on the internet. Emotion ≠ caring, A lot of people have more important things to get worked up about.ripa9 wrote:It's like 90% of people have given up on everything and act emotionless towards anything just because they're scared of disappointments.
