I might store my tings, so I start at 0 just to see how many I can accumulate over RD!

This pseudo-twitter thing really isn't doing it for me.

It's done on purpose. I hate the hashtag principle. It's like a very shallow and pointless resumé of what you are thinking/doing. But it's like Facebook: even if you don't like the principle, it's better to have an account just in case people want to take a look at you (believe me, a lot of headhunters actually take a quick look at your profile to see what you really are).

Hashtags in themselves are fine, their original goal being to help categorise content, i.e. your posts, by assigning it to one or several tags. Unfortunately, there's this widespread, insufferable trend that consists in either using hashtags in places where they serve no purpose because they're not indexed (such as Facebook some time ago, or a web forum) or using unique hashtags that do not help categorisation because no one else is ever going to use them.
