GameSpot's story on Windows Vista. In my opinion, it looks like we're all going to be screwed. For one, it looks like DirectX 10 will be Vista EXCLUSIVE (or at least when it first comes out). If it stays that way, it means that there's a pretty good chance of NO new games coming out under Windows 98, ME, 2000, or XP! They'll be FORCING PC gamers to move over to this resource-draining operating system!
I just pray that DirectX 10 doesn't stay exclusive. I don't mind missing out on Halo 2 PC, since there are better PC shooters out there, but still, if they take ALL new games with them, that's going to just suck GREATLY.
What the crap!?
Oh, and what's with the complete 3-D graphing of EVERYTHING on the desktop? This is not freaking neccessary at all! I want an OS that works, not something so pretty it's going to become absolutely non-functional! Come on MicroSoft! Why are you stealing Mac OS's layouts all the time! Can't you just stay with something simple that works, like Windows 3.1?
And seeing how we can't use XP for direct X 10 games we are screwed big time. This change also means that Microsoft will not release DirectX 10 for Windows XP, because many of the Direct3D10 improvements will need the new Windows Vista Display Driver Model.
I don't give a crap about windows Vista's user interferance, just give windows XP a new Freakin update, so it can run the freakin direct X 10. How hard is that to microsoft? Its not, they are so freakin selfish and want our money and they try getting away with every freakin thing they possibly freakin can. They're thieves, they're cheap, all they want is their freakin money. They still every good idea Mac comes up with, just like the freakin start menu.
This all is just pathetic. And a good answer to the topic title's question, yes we are freakin screwed. ><
