Will there be references to stuff you like in the game?

I think so, one of his artworks (that we've buried now), had statues of various VG characters.

Another question though, will there be hugs?

Yes there will be references like in the backgrounds and will be very limited in jokes. I'm not one for pop culture reference humor, yes even when it comes to joking about other video games.

Also, I already have a trailer planned out. I'll give you details like it shows the premise of the story and shows off the Hero Trio and what they do. It's gonna be awesome!

I hope this game is like Rayman Origins times 1000 plus infinity!
