I'm guessing you are a competitive kind of trainer then. TBH my best mon is probably Blastoise, which puts you nowhere in a competition . I did narrowly lose the 2/5th tier in my schools tourney last year, which makes me curious just how good you can get at strategizing for events.

Funny I was just saying how i'd like to start IV breeding some Eeveelutions. Although (rather funnily) I have Eevee's in my Friend Safari which is a pity I can't go to. I suppose I could start trading a batch of my other IVed pokemon for some Eevees.

You know you can catch eevees on route 10 as well?

Serebii seems to have found new Corocoro scans, being namely on contests. It shows what the contest hall looks like, confirms that Mega Evolution can be activated in contests (but says it can only activated when an "excite" meter is full), and talks about how Feebas can evolve through contest based features (In other words, confirmed that the beauty evo for Feebas is back).

Never really understood the IV thing, it has something to do with how strong the pokémon can become, doesn't it

It effects how much stats it can gain, is it's simplest definition. Like a pokemon with a high defense IV will be able to gain more defense stats than a pokemon with a low defense IV. IVs are a number between 0 to 31 where 31 is the highest IV a pokemon can get, so a pokemon with 31 IVs in defense will be able to gain the most stats in defense.

They essentially work like genes, as such they can be breeded onto other pokemon, hence "IV breeding" which sounds like a pain but it's fairly easy to do especially in gen 6.

EDIT : If you still don't get it think of art; some people have natural talent in art, this would be considered "IVs" in real life. Of course you can't be good at art just on pure talent, so you need to practice, which would be considered "EVs".
