I've never been drunk myself, but from what I know, they are fundamentally different even though they do share some similarities. I've never heard of someone becoming malevolent from marijuana, so in my opinion when put comparatively, alcohol is naturally more dangerous than marijuana by a long shot.saerleiya wrote:It's illegal for a specific reason: people who are getting used to it (or kinda addicted, although in the "light sense") develop bad habits, they are less efficient, and sometimes, it's not even calming them down. Paranoia can become more of a side-effect, and even if it doesn't create as much violence as alcohol, consuming too much of it is a bad habit. I'm not saying the fact it is illegal is right, but you can see it as a way to dissuade people from consuming too much of it. Alcohol is legal, do you see what happens? People drunk everywhere, murders, suicides, accidents and shit. Think about marijuana being legal: alcohol would be challenged in terms of deaths due to car accidents. Tobacco is only addictive, and dangerous for your life in the long run. It's not affecting other people's life as much as the two other ones...
Lol, an interesting one I suppose. I've lived in dense, Downtown ghetto-urban areas for most of my life, which are very different from the suburbs; I get the vibe that most people in RPC live in suburbs, either that or 'town' is a European slang people use to actually refer to 'city'.DandyGuy wrote:What hood you roll up out of?Adsolution wrote:WITH MY FRIEND'S FAMILY

I've been drunk to the point of throwing up, having double vision etc and basically, I never want to get that drunk again.
Hmm I don't know if this applies to North America but over here marijuana's often mixed with tobacco and those I know who smoke it this way regularly let their paranoia get to them and become irrational thus breaking up friendships (such as one I was caught in the middle of last year).

Yes, I live in Vancouver, it's a dense urban city. What are you getting at?
Hm, I've never heard of that here. Marijuana contains no addictive properties like nicotine, so addiction would probably just be reserved for those seeking the high constantly.Cairnie wrote:Hmm I don't know if this applies to North America but over here marijuana's often mixed with tobacco and those I know who smoke it this way regularly let their paranoia get to them and become irrational thus breaking up friendships (such as one I was caught in the middle of last year).

On kind of a related-ish note, I've tried (key word: "tried," as in I know I'm 15) several alcoholic beverages over the course of my life, and I've found that they all basically taste horrible. I completely understand the appeal of the after-effects, but I find that it's odd that such universally-liked beverages have such a sharp and unsavory taste.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
It depends on what type of alcohol is used and whether you mix it with a non-alcoholic beverage or not. I know for sure that I cannot stand white wine, yet red wine I don't mind so much. My problem is that whenever I do have a drink I drink it too quickly (especially if the mixer is some sugary fruit drink) and then I just end up feeling too tired after a couple drinks and that's no fun. When I got sick that night I think I had about 4-5 full sized liqueur drinks and a shot or two, that I can't remember too much (other than the tequila shot, oh man that was interesting).
I've never been malevolent while drunk. Aside from the tiredness I'd be a giggly mess that'd just get amused by anything. The only few people I know who have had shitty behaviour while drunk is my dad and my grandad. They have never been physically abusive, but they often said shitty moany things and it was always best to just ignore them. It was only earlier in the year that my grandad ended up having to spend weeks in hospital with liver issues and when he hadn't hit the bottle, his personality changed, but then he hit the wine again and he's back to his miserable self.

I accidentally implied smoking tobacco with marijuana, which you didn't do. Cairnie pretty much said what I was trying to say myself. Indeed, in Europe, as marijuana is hard to find sometimes (and expensive), people tend to mix it up with tobacco. It's also weaker in terms of effects so you can smoke a joint at noon and still be fine for your next course or your afternoon of work.Cairnie wrote:Hmm I don't know if this applies to North America but over here marijuana's often mixed with tobacco and those I know who smoke it this way regularly let their paranoia get to them and become irrational thus breaking up friendships (such as one I was caught in the middle of last year).
That's why it's illegal: to restrict as much as possible the big consumers.Adsolution wrote:so addiction would probably just be reserved for those seeking the high constantly.
What beverages are you talking about? It is very hard for me to see some very good wines with a "sharp and unsavory taste"...did you try sweet white wine? They are very tasty, even for wines. And of course if you compare real stuff with grocery vodka, it's sure you won't like alcohol anyway: some of these are cheap because all their consumers need is MAINLY the after-effects.technology4617 wrote:On kind of a related-ish note, I've tried (key word: "tried," as in I know I'm 15) several alcoholic beverages over the course of my life, and I've found that they all basically taste horrible. Getting used to drinking alcohol (and I'm talking about the good ones) is like the creation of most of the beverages in themselves: it takes time to mature. You will always find the first drinks you taste horrible and not worth facing the side-effects of it. But usually half a glass of beer/wine/cider/whatever not hard drink is fine, even when you are still a teenager.

I think beer tastes absolutely disgusting. Wine is pretty good, especially white wine, that's probably my favourite. Cider and Palm Bay are good too.
Given that they're "healthier" than pop, I hope at some point to become more accustomed to them. I'll always love me some Sprite, but if I'm having too much, I can balance it out with some alcoholic beverages.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Did you taste cherry beers? They are very good!
I should try chouchen when I come back home (alcohol from Brittany made with honey)
My favourite one so far is Cider. Not too strong, several alcohol "levels" (from "sweet", 2%, to "hard", 5%), tasty (apples, yum!). Also I have some roots in French regions known for producing great ciders.

Why not have pop with booze? I often have vodka with Irn bru for instance.Adsolution wrote:I think beer tastes absolutely disgusting. Wine is pretty good, especially white wine, that's probably my favourite. Cider and Palm Bay are good too.

Re: Something Bothering you?/Daily Doldrums
Most of the beverages I've tried have either been fine (mostly red) wines served at my family's Christmas parties and the like, as well as champagne. I think everything else in the drink tastes good, but I dislike the taste of actual ethyl alcohol, and I found it curious that such common beverages had what I would call an acquired taste. The only thing I remember liking was beer, but even then I still found the taste of the alcohol to be a nasty element.saerleiya wrote:What beverages are you talking about? Okay, seems legit. You don't like the dryness of alcohol, right?

Well, my parents are divorced, so half the time I live an a fairly good sized urban town, and the other half is spent in the sticks, sorrounded by rednecks.Adsolution wrote:Lol, an interesting one I suppose. You are a normal person. Usually you think it tastes like that the first time you taste any kind of beverage with alcohol.DandyGuy wrote:I once tried alcohol, it tasted like sharpie. Im a bad-ass now?
To clarify here, most cities in Europe have a downtown for very wealthy people, and then suburbs which are ghetto-urban areas in some neighbourhoods and houses zones in others. At least it's like that in France.Adsolution wrote:Lol, an interesting one I suppose. In North America, for what I've been able to see so far, downtown is mainly dedicated to work and not so much for living, and then you have two rings of suburbs, the first one being more ghetto-like and the second one, the furthest away from downtown, for wealthy people.
And yes, most Europeans don't make any difference between 'town' and 'city'.
