It happened several years ago in France. Now you can't buy alcohol in stores, and people start asking for your ID from time to time, although it's not as frequent as in the US (do I really look like I'm less then 21? I should grow a beard and keep it, I'm getting more and more bored of having to show my passport every single time).

That is what my parents did, basically. My brothers and I tried drinking alcohol progressively, the first time around 13/14, then proposing it occasionnally (or for big events like new year's eve) until we started asking for some or got used to drinking usual alcohol (which in France is wine, and you know it's hard to get used to red wine...).
