@Ad
I do agree that background is way better on US and EU covers. I guess that I am just really liking the way Rayman and Razorbeard are there on Japanese one.

I've always figured that the beard was just screwed onto the side of his head to cover a hole in his face where his mouth would be.Bradandez wrote:What the fuck was Razorbeard anyways? I know he's an alien robot (or was he just an alien or just a robot?), but his mouth was always peculiar to me. Like, is the beard his mouth or it could be taken off and reveal whatever was under it?
Re: Rayman 2
I think it is well hidden under the beard.

Re: Rayman 2
Since his name is Razorbeard and not Razormouth, I'm pretty sure it's just his beard, which is quite visibly screwed onto the side of his head at height of his hair thingies. I've never thought of where his voice would be coming from though. Perhaps he sounds so tinny because it's resonating fiteen million times inside his beard? That's an interesting theory.
You also gave me the comical idea of Razorbeard being itchy underneath his beard and flipping it upwards to scratch.

Re: Rayman 2
Hmm, I wouldn't look too deeply into his name, let's not forget his original name was Razorface. Perhaps the switch was made when they decided to change from Mysterious Guild to Robo-Pirates, Razorbeard does seem to reference the infamous Blackbeard, after all.

Re: Rayman 2
But isn't his French name Barbe-Tranchante, 'Admiral Sharp-beard'? Was it Visage-Tranchante at some point? xD
Re: Rayman 2
Razorbeard sounds cooler in English. Same in French, if you would translate literally from English to French, 'Barbe-Razoir' sounds incredibly weird (plus his beard doesn't really look like a razer, jk...).
Re: Rayman 2
But what's up with his head? If he's supposed to be a robot (and it shows), his head (the black part, wait can I say black?) Looks strangely organic to me.

Re: Rayman 2
Maybe he's one of those Dark Creatures from Olympus Maximus attached to robotic parts for speech and movement.
…Or not XD

Re: Rayman 2
If Razorbeard is a robot, who created Razorbeard?

Re: Rayman 2
I think most of us here have asked ourselves that question at least once! I think some other people had some theories. The one I like the most is that it was some humanoid race on another planet, and then he turned rogue and got rid of them. I thought of that myself, but I saw on the forum that others had thought of it before me!
Re: Rayman 2
I think Razorbeard is actually Mister Dark because they have the same eyes! Woah, freaky!

Re: Rayman 2
It sounds a tad unpronouncable too. Or in any case, trying to pronounce it leaves me with a slight hiccup that you don't really want when speaking sentences.saerleiya wrote:'Barbe-Razoir'
As organic as metal barbs sticking out from the sides, a beard made of metal screwed into one's face and glowing lightbulbs with apertures for eyes get, sure.Bradandez wrote:Looks strangely organic to me.
I have another origin story for Razorbeard, but that will have to wait for another day...
Re: Rayman 2
Looks like Caddy favors Rayman 2's soundtrack more than Rayman 1. And you know what he made a good point and kinda scraped some hate off me and my feelings towards the soundtrack.

Re: Rayman 2
Bleh, Rayman 2 is being an arse, lags like heck. And it insists on showing the borders instead of being in full screen.
Hmm, still, I've always wanted to emulate the DC version, I ought to give it a shot.

Re: Rayman 2
Have you tried to run the game with the default settings?
Re: Rayman 2
Try installing nGlide and see if that sorts anything.

Re: Rayman 2
I'll give it a shot and report back. In the meantime, I'm trying out NullDC and the Dreamcast version, anyone got any recommended settings? I've been trying to figure out how to get the widescreen working.
EDIT: Widescreen is go, now to figure out the sound.

Re: Rayman 2
well, its somehow a rant, but i have to get it out of my head
this is the game i hate the most, i can even get past the rabbids(they are funny and cute at least)
but...why?
well, i grew up with rayman 1 on sega saturn, it was awesome(i couldnt finish the game because there was an scratch on the disc and well, it was just impossible to get past the blue mountain)
anyway, i loved the designs, the characters, the music, how hard yet fun gameplay, then ther eis rayman 2, they virtually dumped everything i loved from the first game, changed the creature designs(limbless) changed all the characters, i dont love or hate the 3D eviroment and such but those other things, they were everything that made the first game awesome, a limbless filled world, rayman who was already a hero, the little electoons, those enemies, the boses, everything seemed to belong in that world, then, rayman 2 replaces that, replaces all the main characters but rayman himself, replace the world, the music, the living creatures y was so dissapointed i cant describe how i felt about it, then it got worst, every other game was made from that, rayman is a limbless thing in rayman 2's world, just different powers, characters and well, everything but the things i loved from the first game, origins kinda fixed that by mixing characters from the first and second(and maybe some of the other games) together, but i really feel a big hole, the prototype for rayman 2(the one that had the pirates and all but in the same game style as the original) somehow i feel would have been less dissapointing even if they did everything exactly like the actual rayman 2 but in the original intended way --_--

Re: Rayman 2
I don't hate Rayman 2, in fact, I quite like it, but I agree with most of your statements. I do think they improved when they toned down the difficulty, and I think Rayman Origins incorporating elements of Rayman 1 into it kinda ruined it for me rather thank fixed it. Before I could have said that Rayman 1 just took place in a separate setting (The Valley) to the rest of the games, but then they mashed the Valley into the rest of the Glade and gave limbs to all the limbless characters (Except electoons and stone men, electoons I can understand but why keep the stone men limbless in that case?). It's like they're trying to say "Yeah forget how Rayman 1 portrayed it, it's actually always been this way".
In terms of gameplay and artwork Rayman Origins looks really nice to me, I just don't like what they've done with the """"continuity"""".
But back on the topic of Rayman 2, I agree, wiping out almost all of the original cast in the second game was an odd move in my opinion. I guess they wanted to go for the whole "Rayman is so mysterious he's the only one of his kind" thing, but I don't think you can really do that right after introducing the limbless character in a world filled with other limbless beings.
After posting this, I had a think about what you said about how "everything seemed to belong in that world". I see what you mean now, the cast of Rayman 1 weren't all the same (Some were quite similar, yes, looking at you Tarayzan) but their limblessness was a unique feature they all held in common. The cast of Rayman 2 is diverse, which is nice, but I feel like it's sort of... disjointed. I mean, I like a diverse cast of characters, but... Eh, it's kind of hard to explain, I'll see if I can find the right words for it after I've had my dinner.
