That hardly looks like a gaming PC lol, it has less RAM than an average consumer desktop from six years ago. What's the GPU/graphics card?

(Take it from me, demand a reasonable discrete! Older integrated GPUs will struggle with the likes of Minecraft, forget about more graphically intensive stuff)
-/+ I'm getting tired with all this new stuff, but at the same time, it's nice to be out and about again.
- I want to get to the the meat of it all, Fresher's Week is handy, but I'd rather just dive in proper.
+ There's an introductory team challenge, which has been reasonably fun, though I find it's better catered to some more than others, which left me rather idle at times.

I think a 6000 (i dont know how many zeros it has) graphic card GeForce or something.
Yeah,not a gamer pc.

Yikes, the 6 series can't even run Source games properly.

I hope you mean 600.Sugar wrote:I think a 6000 (i dont know how many zeros it has) graphic card GeForce or something.

Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
You are being a bit rude towards Sugar.
Sugar, we need more precise information about your specs: although a 2.4 GHz processor looks good for games, having it with only 3 GB of RAM seems really weird to me
. Most gaming computers have usually between 8 and 16 GB of RAM divided into 2/3 slots of 4/8. Sometimes people take even more RAM, but 8 to 16 is the most usual.
You probably have a GeForce GT 600 from NVidia, considering what you are telling us. But it can be either 1 or 2 Ghz for this kind of GPU (I took a look at Nvidia's website for once)
Processor capacity is one of the most displayed spec in a computer, so I guess you are probably right on this one, and that 1) either your gaming PC doesn't have enough RAM for what it is (meh, maybe your grandpa was using it for something that doesn't need a lot of RAM), or 2) you missed something about RAM/GPU/thingy.
+ Did all the stuff I needed at the university today.
-/+ Having a hard time telling my GF I will maybe have to shorten my stay in Germany for a few days because there is a form about VIEs in Paris. It's always hard to tell people you have to be with them less time because you actually want to spend more time with them in the future :'(.

– Yeah, you're right. Sorry Sugar, that was insensitive of me. Getting mixed up between GeForce 6000s and 600s could cause people problems though, it seems to me now that they made the naming scheme confusing on purpose.saerleiya wrote:You are being a bit rude towards Sugar.
+ Speaking of GeForces, I'm happy in general with the progress that has been made on the open-source nouveau driver for NVidia cards.
Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
Yeah, I know that the names of Nvidia's graphic cards can be confusing at times, especially for a neophyte. Also the message is not only for you: I just think Sugar didn't deserve such negative answers. Maybe he/she doesn't know a lot about PC specs. I personnally don't know a lot about them, I'm not a specialist of hardware at all, I only know the basics.PluMGMK wrote:– Yeah, you're right. Sorry Sugar, that was insensitive of me. I don't think anyone was being rude at all, it was totally chill with a bit of humour.
Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
Yup, sorry, I was a bit nervous because of one of the reasons listed above.

Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
Minecraft sucks a lot of power and requires some high-end specs because it's pretty poorly coded, however. They are improving over time.Master wrote:(Take it from me, demand a reasonable discrete! + Made some gud dinner
- It wasn't ace.
+ Can it be? Is it true? It's that time of the year again? I'm falling in lo-o-ove~ !
Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
Yeah, sorry guys for giving some bad info about my PC, tomorrow my grandpa comes for dinner so i will ask him. As far i know guys, 4 GB of RAM is good enough for good gameplay, nothing more, nothing less. So, anyways i will say something about the RAM. The PC i will have haves 4 GB but Windows uses 1. I am wondering if he is using the 2 slots...maybe. Also he is not a normal grandpa, he taught me all i know now. Anyways no, Plum wasn't offending me anyways. So don't worry
.
Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
4 GB is horrible for gaming. I know because I have 4 GB RAM for now.
New games require minimum 6 GB RAM usually.

Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
So that means your PC will need about 8GB as a minimum to keep up with the current market.
Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
(+) Got the Super Smash Bros. Demo, thanks to Ray fist. Gonna make him something in return.

Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
Not necessarily. That's simply the minimum system requirement, Windows and other background processes can easily use more or less. There's also no harm whatsoever in adding more RAM, as all it does increase your computer's ability to run multiple/more intensive processes.Sugar wrote:As far i know guys, 4 GB of RAM is good enough for good gameplay, nothing more, nothing less. But, in all honesty, these specs greatly remind me of the computer I had six or so years ago, which could barely run basic video editing software, let alone a video game. In other words, don't get your hopes up.
For reference, here's the specs of my current desktop:
Intel i7-3770k (quad-core, 3.5GHz)
32GB DDR3-1600 RAM
NVIDIA GTX 560Ti 448-Core (which already has difficulty running a fair amount of games, thinking of upgrading soon)
Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
Thanks for the pep talk Shroobie/Saer (otp), was a pretty good self-confidence boost.
- I think I'm just done with my friend now. He's constantly ignoring me, when he is online he pretends to be gone and really quickly changes his status to Away, and now after three days of saying near to nothing to me, he suddenly barks some fucking mean shit at me and goes right back to being offline. Maybe there's something going on I'm not aware of, but we know each other perfectly well enough for him to just be honest and say so and I'd be willing to up with any bad mood he might be in, but right now it just feels like he's trying to get rid of me but he doesn't want to directly say it. I think I'll just leave him be for a few days.
+ But on a more positive note, this weekend I might have a pretty good shot at talking to someone I'd really like to get to know better.

Hey, we are here for thatKeane wrote:Thanks for the pep talk Shroobie/Saer (otp), was a pretty good self-confidence boost.
I actually bought a book I just randomly saw in the bookstore of the university I was working in a month ago. This book is talking about groups/labels in middle/high school, about outcasts and their struggles to past this hard step for everybody who is not a "normal" person (no stigmatization there, "normal" is used for the definition teenagers give to it, which is pretty lame at the end). Although it's applying to the US educational system, it can be applied to the French (European?) one as well, even if it's in a milder way. The author also wants to show that teenagers struggling or not wanting to be a part of a group in high school are actually the people who happen to have the most successful lives once their adulthood begins, as their "weaknesses" (let's say differences, it should be better) become their strengths as they are adults.
What I found interesting in this book as I read only a few pages is that I felt I was also set apart from my schoolmates in middle/high school, and that I could only see weaknesses in my behaviour. I'm slowly beginning to turn what everybody would call a 'problem' into strengths I can rely on and show others that it can be a great asset. You made me think about it, Keane, and I'm telling you this, even if it's not true yet for myself: do'nt be afraid of struggling right now on some aspects of your life. At some point in the future, your experience can reveal itself to be more valuable than anything else you've learnt during yoru entire life. Just find some support to help you go through this period. I bet you will be fine after that. It was a long journey for me (I'm already 23), but everyday I can see I'm progressing towards being what I want to be, not what other people want me to be.
The book is called "The geeks shall inherit the earth" (it's not a generality: the book is more about 'outcasts' in high school, not only 'geeks').
+ I want to read this book even more right now
