Re: The You Game!
< wonders if ^^ has an opinion on systemd.
Re: The You Game!
<'s laptop was making a clicking sound at startup. <'s hard drive is probably going to bust soon, and honestly, < totally saw it coming. < Was already thinking it needed to be replaced. < Backed up the hard drive a couple of days ago and hasn't created any new files on it except a couple of quick drawings that aren't all to important, so < should be fine if the hard drive does die soon.
Re: The You Game!
< have an ultra-shitty notebook and < never had problems with it.
Re: The You Game!
< Has had <'s Dell for almost four years, and it started having a lot of problems over the last year so < renamed it the ShitMaster2000

Re: The You Game!
< has pretty much abandoned magnetic storage, at least in this PC. There's a tonne of stuff on magnetic HDDs, but basically all of what < actually uses is on this nice fast SSD!

What's an SSD?
< Is watching videos of crappy gamemaker '.exe' creepypasta games.
< Has the urge to try making a creepy Rayman.exe game, hahaha.

A type of hard drive that doesn't suck dachshund penis (i.e., it's a chip rather than a rotating disk).THEdragon wrote:What's an SSD?
< finally fucking beat Outlast on Insane mode, and the happiness I felt afterward more than justified the migraines beforehand.

< adds that SSD stands for "Solid-State Drive". < hasn't time to explain right now.

Re: The You Game!
< uses systemd, seemingly because <'s desktop environment is Cinnamon. < enjoys having lightning-fast boot time but is concerned by the high level of integration. < would like to try alternatives, but doesn't currently have the willpower/free time for experimentation.

Re: The You Game!
< probably won't be jumping on the SSD bandwagon just yet, < admits that the prices are beginning to come down, but they haven't really reached the same point as magnetic HDDs yet. <'s laptop currently uses a hybrid SSHD, mind you.
Presently, If < ever were to build a tower, < would probably follow the norm and have an SSD as a boot and fast storage, and a high capacity HDD for normal storage.

Re: The You Game!
< bought a motherboard that came with a 128 GB SSD, which < has somehow been able to use for everything that < has done since building this machine (except for a Windows VM, which < put on a smaller SSD that < had previously bought). < ended up not being able to use that particular motherboard though, due to buying an incompatible "Devil's Canyon" CPU.

Re: The You Game!
Heh, <'s move from a 140GB to a 1TB laptop was staggering, though < isn't fond of the whole Kilo/Mega/Giga vs Kibbii/Mebi/Gibi thing. 1024, not 1000! Really irks < how that gives more is actually less.
But < digresses, <'s point about the move is how < didn't really have enough space for <'s endeavours with a 140GB HDD, and with only one HDD space in <'s laptop, < would have to take high space over high speed with things as they are at present.

Re: The You Game!
< thinks that's very sensible. < wonders how long before large SSDs become affordable…
