What it basically is is an upscaler and an A/D converter in one device, and a very good one at that. It has composite, S-Video, RGBs (SCART/XRGB21), RGBHV (VGA), and YPbPr component inputs, and an HDMI output, and this particular (older) model actually has native progressive 240p support, meaning < can get near-emulator quality out of <'s older systems (5th generation and older) if I use an RGBs connection. (< currently uses RGBs, but with a shitty plug'n'play SCART to HDMI box.) It also has means of adjusting the color and shit if it for some reason isn't to my liking. In other words, I'm very happy I was able to snag this for a mere $177, especially when it originally retailed for around $800.

Also, emshomar's gonna be wondering why I didn't get the Framemeister instead, and I have a couple of reasons: it's too expensive, and the knowledge that it isn't going to work with a handful of PS1 games due to the 240p/480i switching issue doesn't help me at all with the prospect of swallowing that expense.
