Re: General Pokémon Thread
I just find it really pathetic they list "Too much water" as a complaint. I legitimately thought this was a photoshop just picking towards IGN when I first saw the image but nope it's real. Okay, Hoenn is a region soley based on water, why can't people get that through there thick skulls? People are so used to games babying them now it's pathetic. I will admit I do see the HM thing as a pretty valid complaint, I do think that HM's should be integrated instead of teaching a Pokemon the move as pretty much fucking everyone hates them.
That being said, my hype for this remake, from my own personal standpoint, it's actually looking kind of... just okay. I mean, before my impressions were incredibly high, because Hoenn was my favorite region and I was just incredibly hyped to finally see it get a remake. Now we're getting it and... it looks alright. I'll be getting it first day it comes out but I'll be far too busy with Smash to really care. I played the demo numerous times for Pokemon and just nothing had me thrilled, nothing had me at the edge of my seat. I really do think Pokemon has become way too easy lately. To be fair I'm a pretty shit Pokemon player when I battle online, but god damn they really are catering towards casuals and drifting away from the challenge that made Pokemon so great.
Either way, maybe I'm wrong here and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire WILL live up to the hype, I could be wrong, and I sure as hell hope I am.
Also it seems the framerate drop bug is still visible in this game, I know this won't be a problem with the new Nintendo 3ds but to see this in a 30FPS Pokemon game really passes off as inexcusable in my book.

It iss because of professional reviews like this that I stopped checking Gamespot and IGN's reviews.

I agree with this. Also, Hoeen isn't soley based on water. There's a landmass and a cool one to explore.Okay, Hoenn is a region soley based on water, why can't people get that through there thick skulls? People are so used to games babying them now it's pathetic.

I'm pretty sure it will be much better in the hands than by listening to the compliments of other people. It isn't also with a demo that you get a full idea of the game's quality.Either way, maybe I'm wrong here and Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire WILL live up to the hype, I could be wrong, and I sure as hell hope I am.

Re: General Pokémon Thread
I've played Hoenn before (it's my favorite region, and I own all versions), I'm simply stating it mostly consists of water, which I'm okay with. I don't LITERALLY mean soley.Haruka wrote: Also, Hoeen isn't soley based on water. There's a landmass and a cool one to explore.
However, demo's are suppose to give off the impression of "Wow, I need to fucking buy this." they aren't always perfect but at the same time you want people to buy your game. For some reason I feel like I'm going to end up liking the GBA version far better. The graphical style isn't exactly how I pictured Pokemon in 3D, I was kind of hoping we'd see a Colosseum/Gale Of Darkness style, either way though I'm still looking forward to what these remakes have to offer.Haruka wrote:I'm pretty sure it will be much better in the hands than by listening to the compliments of other people. I think you guys need to start looking at this a bit logically and critically, don't just buy into the whole "OMG ITS POKEMON 11/10". I'm a fan of Pokemon, but as a fan you need to criticize something you see iffy, that's why I'm taking this remake with a grain of salt. It still looks like it's going to be awesome (and most reviewers are saying positive things), so I have no doubt it's going to be awesome but I get the feeling we may see some not so great stuff in comparison to it's GBA version.
That being said, I DO think this remake is a step in the right direction, and at the same time, I want to see how well they can properly execute this direction. I really hope they continue with the remake trend, seriously, I prefer a new remake over a new Pokemon anyday. The disaster for me that was Black and White (Sorry B/W fans), I don't want a repeat of this. Especially since Gen 6 was a great revival.
The difference here is that Smash stays consistently the same while still offering different altered physics and gameplay, and still being a great competitive fighting game by the end of the day for both casuals and veterans. A lot of what X/Y introduced was very different from it's predecessors so I had a lot of new stuff I just wasn't bothered to learn. It's why I hardly ever go online, I just don't find RPG's fun for online play. I think X/Y is NOT the game someone should go into starting Pokemon, and that's what I fear for the future Pokemon, they're introducing far too much honestly and as a result many people don't want to get into the series, which is why Pokemon mostly consists of veterans. I really think Gen 6 is a proper Gen 5, the new Pokemon introduced were memorable while in Black and White a good chunk of them felt lazily put together. This is just my opinion.Haruka wrote:Now I start to understand why you want me so much to play SSB online with you

Re: General Pokémon Thread
I think my only current problem with ORAS is the amount of fanservice they're putting into it. But then again they are introducing it in gen 6, aka the fanservice generation.
Will I like this game? Yeah I do think so because it looks like there's going to be a lot of new stuff introduced but at the same time I can see myself still considering Emerald to be my favourite, for admitably rather biased reasons.

Re: General Pokémon Thread
My reasons for loving the shit out of Hoenn was the sense of adventure that just felt unlike any other Pokemon game. Being able to dive, explore hidden bases, it was a truly awesome feeling, and I look forward to seeing that executed in the remake.
Re: General Pokémon Thread
I am not defending the thing just because it is Pokémon, I'm giving away my honest opinion. Remember that I took a hell of a time to get in Pokémon White/2 because I felt something was really wrong with Generation 5. I think that in terms of monster design Generation 5 was the most "disastrous", but then it is probably linked with my visual tastes.

I'm so happy now, I found a YouTube video describing how to get the game now in Europe, and it worked!

Re: General Pokémon Thread
The problem I have is that a lot of the Pokemon fanbase haven't been viewing things logically and barely point out any critique. I hardly saw anyone complain about the small amount of post content in X/Y, the awful framerate in 3D, there's problems but nobody touches them. Nobody ever complains about the series being incredibly casualized and thus being too easy. I'll admit, I'm a shitty Pokemon player, but even I get bothered when they casualize it. Starting you off with so many potions, I get they want more people to like Pokemon but because of this they're losing some of there die hard fans.Haruka wrote:I am not defending the thing just because it is Pokémon, I'm giving away my honest opinion. Anyways I've been playing Omega Ruby and it's pretty great but there are some problems I do need to address, nothing at all major...
It's a shame to see the game still lags tremendously in 3D, I was hoping that'd be fixed now, I'm really upset with the segment/loading areas in the game, I remember what made Ruby/Sapphire so breathtaking was entering a new town and not going into any transition before it. It's weird to see many years later we're now getting transition screens (Short ones, but still), the boat scene was honestly ruined for me (the one where you travel to Dewford), they completely ruined that lovely amazing scene where you pass by at blazing speed and just made it into one cutscene where it speeds off into an ocean, no indication of where it is, how disappointing, lastly, and I'm sure a common complaint, I really wish Game Freak would stop casualizing Pokemon so much, I'm honestly blazing through this and no challenge has been thrown at me yet, which is a bit disappointing.
Those are honestly the only 4 minor complaints I have, everything else is grand, the adventure is great, and the game looks very beautiful, it's definetly a step up from X/Y. I will do a small review once I complete the game and share my thoughts.

Re: General Pokémon Thread
I'm currently watching a playthrough of it on YouTube. I'm pretty disappointed to see that the Emerald features aren't in this game. Like the teams for the gym/rival battles. Why is this? Does that mean they'll be remaking an Emerald version? They're probably bound to, just to generate more money.

Re: General Pokémon Thread
I doubt it, though I'm surprised they haven't carried over the third version features. HGSS stuck by their version differences for the most part, but added Crystal's extra content on top.
That being said, there is the Delta Episode, which apparently is going to make some interesting notes on the Pokemon timeline.

Re: General Pokémon Thread
Well it's their style to release a third game, just like black & white 2... It's a real shame, because Emerald was probably the best game

Re: General Pokémon Thread
They don't tend to do third versions for remakes, Gen III had just FireRed and LeafGreen, Gen IV had just HeartGold and SoulSilver. Third versions tend to only happen for the main games, I'd expect a version Z in relation to XY than a GammaEmerald or whatnot for ORAS. Though GameFreak has broken convention before, so who knows?

Re: General Pokémon Thread
Hm, I suppose you're right with that. Emerald, Platinum & black and white 2 just stand out to me. I see those as just the +1 game to the original 2 before it. It will be interesting to see how it goes! I'll be watching through this playthrough anyhow.Master wrote:They don't tend to do third versions for remakes, Gen III had just FireRed and LeafGreen, Gen IV had just HeartGold and SoulSilver. Re: General Pokémon Thread
Well, I wouldn't call BW2 the traditional third version, seeing as it's an actual sequel as opposed to a redone BW. But yeah, I'm following some of the ORAS stuff too, interesting to see how many legendarys they've got in there.
Re: General Pokémon Thread
@Rayfist I agree with the lack of post-Champion defeat content part. There was the Looker sidequest that I played and I found it pretty boring and too long. After this there wasn't really anything else to do so I went for the Dex conclusion. Now I just need Diancie and the 2 not-officially revealed yet legendaries to truly complete the Pokédex. The framerate is casually buggy for me when I play in 3D but to be honest I've turned off the feature since some months ago. It is not a good idea having it on when you are traveling in the train or in the subway

Re: General Pokémon Thread
The only reason that they never really went with anything like "Water Blue" or "Mind Crystal" was because it lacked any significant difference in terms of stories. Japan's blue for instance is the West's Red and Blue and all that was is an upgrade/less buggy version of their Red and Green, while Crystal only added in the Suicune event which, as you may know, is something that was simply slapped onto the main story as a sub plot since it was so small.Master wrote:They don't tend to do third versions for remakes, Gen III had just FireRed and LeafGreen, Gen IV had just HeartGold and SoulSilver. "Delta/Gamma Emerald" could be more plausible as the change of story was much more drastic (albeit not by a lot, but different enough to be an awkward fit into the main ones). Speaking of I do recall some spoilers relating to this :
[There is one bit of spoilers i've watched regarding the end of the Delta episode where Steven talks to Wallace about one day pursuing his hopes & dreams and asking Wallace if he would take up the champ post when he decides to go. Needless to say this refers to how Wallace eventually came into the champ position but the game itself never allows to battle him as champ (Although you do face his Emerald team during the Delta ep) which would imply there could be a game where you'd meet Champion Wallace, be it the Emerald remake or, as i've once talked about, a potential Hoenn sequel.]

If they were going to make Hoenn sequel, then these current games should just be a remake of Emerald!

Re: General Pokémon Thread
The 3D feature is bad no matter where you are, even framerate problems aside, X and Y/Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire does absolutely nothing to take advantage of the 3D. It's nearly just as bad as New Super Mario Bros 2's 3D.Haruka wrote: The framerate is casually buggy for me when I play in 3D but to be honest I've turned off the feature since some months ago.
