Yes, that's what I was saying. But he didn't offer any insight into his views, simply that he has them for whatever reason. Similarly, an insane person could believe in wizards, and someone else who may just as well be insane could say "I agree with you" and nothing else. It really doesn't offer anything to support the intellectual side of things, only an ego boost. This doesn't matter though, it's moreorless an ad hominem I brought forward that I felt reflected the overall tone of your argument.
Ambidextroid wrote:I think you are the one misusing the word
You think, or you know?
Ambidextroid wrote:This is the dictionary definition of opinion: "a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge."
There is noting about evidence against an opinion making it invalid, as that would defeat the purpose of the word.
You can technically still call it an opinion if it's invalid, at that point it's just an invalid opinion, which is in some cases synonymous with an erroneously identified personal preference. Dictionary definitions are made to be as concise as possible, and often will assume the reader has a certain level of knowledge/experience in order to be able to interpret it correctly (and this is entirely provable through the classic definition loop, where one definition might lead to another, which in turn will lead you to another, and then eventually back to the original or to nowhere at all). In this case, while the definition is quite literal and easy to interpret, it prays that you also understand the definition of any adjective you wish to attach to it as well, such as 'invalid'.
Ambidextroid wrote:If someone said "in my opinion I don't exist" then that is invalid, because it's saying "I believe this fact is false".
You've just contradicted your entire dictionary-based belief on opinion validity, that being that it does not have to be based on fact or knowledge. If we go according to what you said a moment ago, it wouldn't matter that you factually exist; the opinion would still be valid because it doesn't have to be based off of any sort of real-world fact.

Consequently, you're completely right, that opinion would be invalid, just as invalid as your opinion regarding the objective fun-factor of realism in games in the face of any evidence that proves the fun-factor is factually subjective. It doesn't matter whether the truth is the opposite of your opinion or there is no single truth, they are both invalid because they don't at all represent factual reality.
Ambidextroid wrote:My beliefs do apply outside of personal preference, because many, many people would agree with me.
Appealing to the masses is not in any way, shape or form an argument. Each one of these people have their own personal preference, and you would probably only take part in something (a certain activity/game/sport) if it aligned with your personal preference. Therefore, obviously, a high percentage of people who avidly play Team Fortress 2 are going to have a similar personal preference, the same way that a lot of the people who play Call of Duty are going to hold a personal preference (for Call of Duty).

I'm sure if you took a moment, it wouldn't be so hard. I'll regularly spend an hour typing up a post like this and ensuring that I completely understand the other side as best I can. I also proof-read so as to avoid contradictions and enormous amounts of typos.

After a lot of pissing about I've finally been able to correctly diagnose what was wrong with my computer. I thought it was the computer itself for quite a while but it was actually the monitor. I guess that's not such a bad outcome, as I really didn't want to have to buy a new computer. I'm going to try and order a cheap monitor tonight but until then I'm natively stuck on my phone -.- - Hope everyone is well, and hey you guys weren't there in my hour well many hours of need!!!!!! :oooo - I may forgive you someday

Also, you have the same avatar as mine! xD Just when I thought I'd escaped being mixed up with people. :P
Yeah, hopefully I can keep my grades up so that I can be here more often! And who did you share avatars with before I came back?

Anywho, hey dart! Haven't seen you in a while!
It's great to hear from you again too, Brad!

Hey dart! :)
Beebo was sharing avatars with Imco for a very long time, but then Imco hosted the quiz and won the SOTM!

Roles, sorry, but BIOS problems are hard enough to diagnose when the machine is there in front of you, never mind over the web!

Haha that's alright, it was quite a difficult problem to research online! It showed all signs of being a computer problem, but typically it was the monitor! That's a good result though where money is concerned!

I don't really understand what you're getting at, Ad, but I'm sure I must be misunderstanding somewhere. I really don't like arguing, and I'm almost certain I must have made a few mistakes in previous posts, so I'll have to call it a "defeat".

I hope this doesn't bother you, I could understand if this is just frustrating, so sorry if it is :(

Don't worry about it, I think you're great. I only saw what appeared to be a very questionable thought process, so I wanted to discuss it.

Ah, I see.

Well it's good that's over, I thought I might have created a TL;DR like OCG's leak argument

Heh, I've never had the mind and patience for such debates. That debate is far from being the only extremely long debate that RPC has had, you'll find them aplenty if you look back.

Yes, I don't like debates either, simply because humans are stubborn and nobody seems to get anywhere with debates... So it's best to just cut it off. The only debates/arguments I enjoy are with my brothers, because they say the most stupid things, and it makes me laugh which makes them have a tantrum and it's all hilarious. They're in university now, so I just stay away from all kinds of arguments these days.

I enjoy reading arguments from time to time, but mostly only have them myself if I morally object against another person's actions. Not a clue why I feel the need to then call them out for their actions - but I do.

Yeah, arguments for arguments' sake are a drain on mental resources for everyone involved. If something's going nowhere I tend to stop and let the remaining resentment fester within me forever.
That said, I don't think humans are that stubborn. A debate won't change someone's mind immediately, but it allows different viewpoints to be vocalised and incorrect assumptions to be challenged. Reading and taking part in those kinds of discussions have opened my eyes to positions I wouldn't have seen myself considering a few years ago.

Maybe some debates do sway opinions, but not the "debates" I was exposed to (with my brothers).

I tend to almost immediately disagree with everyone who disagrees with one of my views. I like clam up and just think they're wankers who don't know what they're talking about. But then, an hour or maybe a day later, gears will have started to turn that are re-evaluating my opinions and I will take what they said to heart and see if what they said made logical sense. So if I ever shut you down immediately after you try to argue with me, know that I will most likely change my mind... but that's after I've already said 'no I won't change my mind'. :P

well guys its been like, nearly a year since i was active here, and well.....i've been starting to get interest in a specific manga/anime series, that have been going for over 30 years, and its problaby one of the most referenced mangas in all media, and its one heck of a great series to read, with each arc having its thing, and that is Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, and let me tell you,i've read part 2,3,4,5 (there are 8 arcs, with 2 already remade in a rather new anime, and with the 3th one being remade),right now im reading part 7,and its becoming one of my fav arcs of the series, with part 4.Oh and btw,if you dont believe about that thing of the references,well....just see this http://jojo.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_cult ... _Adventure

What's up with the lack of space bar/enter key? It's hard to read...

I was going to watch the Jojo anime actually, but wasn't sure which series to start on (There seems to be a lack of chronology).

all right,i have to say this but,if you want to know about the real start of everything,go to part one, phantom blood,but...i kinda dont recommend it,since its rather generic and somewhat...well...boring,at the start at least.I would recommend going for Battle Tendency, its more enjoyable, fun and awesome to watch, but if you want to see one of the things that made jojo really famous, then watch Stardust Crusaders, that have the Stand powers.
To be fair, jojo's chronology is rather simple:Each joestar is either a son or grandson of another Joestar, sometimes character's return to the other arcs, like in part 3,Joseph reappears older....and in part 7...well....lets just say things....change alot...
oh btw the thing with the lack of enter key,its sometthing im kinda used to

Oh, I'll just get used to it I guess

I think I'll watch Stardust Crusaders then, I saw a snippet of an episode on Crunchyroll, and thought it was hilarious, so I'll give it a watch.

Well im sure you will love it,its awesome and just badass, and its a great time to watch it and the other parts since part 3 coming back in january, with the best dog to ever exist.....Iggy...
oh btw there are two awesome fighting games, one made by capcom, and another made...i think by Konami, the capcom one is kinda old,its for the ps1,dreamcast and arcade, while the Konami one is rather new...and it got a fuck ton of spoilers in nearly everything on the game,i mean like,a simple combo or special or taunt of a character is a reference to somethign they did in the manga, but its one heck of a game to play, sadly its only for the ps3....and i only got able to play it once
And one last recommendation, read the part 4 manga, its great and got one of the best villians i ever saw
