"This game is like, top 10 for me"
I've searched around but I haven't come across an old thread to bump, so here we go. Figured it'd be cool to have a thread for folks to share some of their absolute favourite games, and why those games are favourites in the first place.
Re: "This game is like, top 10 for me"
Crash Twinsanity: One of my favorite games of all time. I just love the gameplay, the presentation, and overall feel to this game. Sure there are more "better" Crash games, but I think this one's the best on the series. It may be short, but the levels are well length and fun! If it wasn't for this game, I wouldn't have the many ideas for my creations today.

Re: "This game is like, top 10 for me"
So... Is this a top 10 list or just games we think are 10/10? Here's my list of top 10 games of all time most of which are 10/10 in my opinion. I'm listing one per franchise though to make it a challenge.
Rayman 1 - reasons don't need to be mentioned for this one as I've went insanely in-depth with it in the past.
Megaman X2 - The game that made me the huge Megaman fan I am today, X1 was a good start but I felt X2 introduced so much more. The pace of the game was so awesome, undoubtedly the most tight controls on any SNES platformer. Unfortunately the game that followed up, X3, felt pretty lacking in comparison, but still a great game.
Spyro 2 - No other 3D platformer at the time aside from Rayman 2 was able to get me so immersed, if I would ever recommend anyone starting to get into the Spyro series, play this ASAP. Even if you have to skip 1 to do it, it's just that much better. Not a single dull moment in this game.
Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D - I personally think the N64 version hasn't aged all too great but OOT 3D fixes a the problems I had with the N64. I think it was the perfect art style balance for Zelda as well, not too dark, not too cell-shadey, just normal 3D Zelda at it's finest. The environments are still really gorgeous to this day and hold up really well, I'm still deeply in love with Lake Hylia.
Earthbound - Undoubtedly my favorite RPG of all time, I remember being incredibly upset seeing as how Nintendo at the time refused to port to the Wii virtual console. I ended up homebrewing my wii just to play it and it was worth it. I've never seen any RPG go out of it's way to really be this crazy yet beautiful at the same time, this game spawned one of the most horrific bosses of all times as well - Giygas. I eventually got a copy for $120.
Left 4 Dead 2 - Something about this game simply never gets boring, no matter how much I play it. For a source engine game it looks awesome, and they also have many awesome online dedicated servers up to this day, definitely my favorite shooter of all time.
Mario Bros 3 - It was really hard to decide between this and Mario Galaxy, Mario 3 (Snes version I should mention), was the height of 2D Mario. I think it's sequel, Super Mario World took more of a focus on backtracking and I wasn't extremely fond of that. It also introduced the best powerup in the series- Tanooki Suit.
Super Smash Bros Melee - Undoubtedly my favorite fighting game of all time, Smash 64 suffered from unbalanced gameplay and poor character selection but Melee improves everything, no fighting game I've came across has been as perfectly balanced as Melee. It's a fighting game that truly requires skill.
Devil May Cry 3 - My favorite hack n slash of all time. Music was awesome, environments were incredibly gritty. The perfect hack n slash in which performing combos felt rewarding and you actually get punished for button mashing, a truly skill refined hack n slash.
Pokemon Emerald - No Pokemon games ever gave me the grand sense of adventure that this one did, being able to explore under the sea, and some of the best Pokemon introduced in the series.
Rayman 1 - reasons don't need to be mentioned for this one as I've went insanely in-depth with it in the past.

That's a pretty interesting statement to say the least. As a Megaman fan myself, I never know what to do of X2. My opinion on it changes with every playthrough and when I rank the games, I leave X2 out of any list with an asterisk saying "May be better than X1"Rayfist wrote:Megaman X2 - The game that made me the huge Megaman fan I am today, X1 was a good start but I felt X2 introduced so much more. Anyway, since we are doing this kind of list :
- Rayman Revolution (PS2) : I have a personnal grudge with Rayman 2 (mostly because it was a christmas gift that made my PC crash, which left the 8 year-old me frustrated forever), but this game has it all. It feels much bigger by adding an overworld. The characters are all charming and it's an all-around delightful experience. The only thing that could make it better : Rayman Revolution HD Remake (because it kinda deserves it)
- Megaman X (SNES) : The perfect platformer. Controls are tight, bosses are charismatic, universe if big and beautiful, gameplay is wicked fast. Much like Megaman defined perfection for platformers in the NES days, Megaman X defined perfection for platformers in the SNES age.
- Rogue Leader (NGC) : The only game that (in my opinion) truly feels that you're playing a movie. It is still incredibly detailed even for a Gamecube launch title, tha gameplay has to be mastered in order to get any reward (just as a real pilot, I guess), and it just gives me a nerdgasm everytime I play it.
- Mass Effect 2 (PC) : You probably have to add the Arrival DLC to make this game complete (otherwise the opening of ME3 is a bit frustrating) but it is a very well conveyed experience. You develop a connection with the game and its characters, which is not easy to do. The gameplay got rid of most of the RPG elements, sure, but replaying ME1, it sure feels that the action is kinda slow and can get messy sometimes, so I don't mind the change.
- Super Metroid (SNES) : I usually don't enjoy the "where-the-fuck-do-I-go" games (which include the original Metroid and Zelda), but this one does it right. It truely feels like you're an adventurer lost in nowhere space. The map is immense and well-designed. It is full of secrets. And it is challenging as hell without ever being unfair. I love it.
- Pokémon Silver (GB) : Take the original Pokémon and make it double. Need I say more?
- Super Mario World (SNES) : Basically a mix of Megaman X and Super Metroid, with a whimsical touch to it. Always a pleasure to boot this game up. You can finish this game in so many different ways it's almost incredible. Plus there's the inclusion of the ever-so-popular Yoshi, which adds at the same time a layer of cuteness and gameplay.
- VVVVVV (PC) : A single gameplay mechanic, hours worth of fun. Indie games remind us that good games are not only the most beautiful, the most complex, the most scenarized, etc. I can spend hours in the Super Gravitron, not even looking for a high-score. It's my perfect time killer.
- Dark Cloud (PS2) : Probably the most controversial 10/10 I would ever throw at you, considering that Donjon RPGs can be boring as hell. But I love the universe, the mechanics and the whimsical story. I think it is a hidden gem of the PS2.
- Unreal Tournament 99 (PC) : The only MOBA I would ever play. It's dynamic and fun.

Re: "This game is like, top 10 for me"
I've played the living shit out of X1, X2, and X3 more then any other Megaman game. So I've went back to back and I've come to the conclusion X2 is just the superior game, it's often overshadowed by X1 because how much of an awesome impact it made on people. Regardless, both games were awesome.Pirez wrote:That's a pretty interesting statement to say the least. As a Megaman fan myself, I never know what to do of X2. Damn straight, the original Megaman X trilogy is fucking incredible, not a single awful track or moment in those games, I even liked X3 despite being the least best of the trilogy. You've got awesome taste.Pirez wrote:- Megaman X (SNES) : The perfect platformer. Controls are tight, bosses are charismatic, universe if big and beautiful, gameplay is wicked fast. Donkey Kong Country Returns/Tropical Freeze: These games. These games are the like the pinnacle of Nintendo platformers. These are the only platformers that will or may ever come near the UbiArt Rayman games (both of my favorite games of all-time) that Nintendo will ever make. Let's start of with the gameplay. It's so freaking good! The controls are so precise and easy to learn. I don't know about you guys, but I both loved the motion controls from the Wii version and the classic button pushing controls on the 3D version. The Kongs that assist Donkey are fun and really helpful. Retro Studios also did an incredible job when designing these levels. They have flow, they have difficulty, and they have the charm. Those Rocket Barrels are the blend of fun and rage that never gets old and never wants to make the player quit. Though, I did not care for the Blowing mechanic and find the plucking mechanic from Tropical Freeze much better. Presentation is so eye pleasing as well. I like how the worlds, character models, and overall style of the games. I love how the levels have this continuity and when you begin a level, it starts from the last one. That's so pleasing! The music from Returns seems much weaker when compared to Tropical Freeze, but I still find the music fantastic. David Wise did an amazing job on Tropical Freeze's soundtrack with his variety of genres thrown here and there. As of right now, Tropical Freeze's soundtrack is one of my favorite Video Game soundtracks of all-time. Overall, these games are so good and I don't give a dang on how people say how the originals are "oh so better". (looking at you, Rayfister)

Rayman 3: I struggled so much to get this game when I was 8, it was so great and awesome, introducing some interesting things, and I loved the style of it. Sometimes in the PC I install the game, however I don't play it anymore, but I would beat it again, and R3 HD had a great gameplay, felt like I was really really meant to beat the game.
MOH Series: The MOH series introduced me to FPS games, the games were awesome, cool looking for 2002, and 2003, and much later. The only one that I didn't like too much was Pacific Assault, idk, maybe because it didn't had the real feeling, apart from doing ADS, something new introduced to the series, that would later appear in MOH 2010 and Warfighter.
Well, it's a shame that's all, maybe if I remember some others...
