Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
Then see ye not his masterful plays of the plot? Appreciate ye not his characters or their development throughout? Hath ye not enjoyed his jokes and the whimsies of his? Does thou abstain these characterisations of mine, oft inspired by the Playwright, the Wordsmith, the Poet from Stratford-upon-Avon himself?
If you are not to learn his works in whatever field you study, would you ever? Be honest, would you start looking up his plays as an engineer if you weren't first confronted with them at school? I'm pretty sure you wouldn't, which is why I stress the importance that, indeed, you are.

Yeah but I don't like his plays. Nor did I like many loved works like the Star Wars series, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad etc.
Shakespeare's plays may be considered masterpieces by many, but I think they're a bit naff really. Inception for me.

You didn't like Shakespeare and you didn't enjoy Star Wars? Young Padawan, there is hope for you yet as you didn't also relinquish Inception - else I'd have to keelhaul you on our ship's finest underside!

Ambi, Shakespeare is dick jokes plus moments of incredibly deep social and moral commentary. So, essentially, a better version of me. Am I not good enough for you

Shakespeare is nice, even when translated (you can call me whatever you want, Shroob', I hadn't that English level a few years ago
).
MacBeth da best. Dat king's going crazy, yo. His wife is even worse than him.
+ Went back from my weekend in Germany with my GF, ready to spam the crap out of this website.
- The three days in Köln were okay, but we got a lot of shit at the same time : we didn't have a lot of money, it was cold and cloudy as fuck, and I had caught a cold and was ill on Friday and Saturday. Fuck that, how unlucky we were :/.
+ Rest of it was fine : we visited the cathedral, the christmas markets and the chocolate museum (nom nom nom)!
+ Ready for another week of research/interviews/gaming
.
+ I found a nice idea for Christmas presents! I will try to draw and paint something for everyone. Hum I don't know if I will be able to make everything in time, but let's try that

The thing I love most about MacBeth is when the entire forest starts to move towards the castle. I can see it all in front of me now. Such a classic! Oh, the foolish misinterpretations of the witches' prophecies! Oh the tragedy!
I guess my fondness of Shakespeare stems directly from my fondness of classical literature like the plays of the Greeks.

Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
I don't really see a misinterpretation here, more of a anticipation of MacBeth's madness. You know, the paradoxical thingy.
MacBeth is only thinking about being dethroned once the witches told him it would happen. And the forest and stuff. It only serves to make the evil inside of him go outside and wreck havoc. MacBeth was already mad before meeting the witches, they just played the fatality trick

Meh, I don't quite care for his works still, I just don't find them very interesting. A story has to be unrealistic for me to enjoy it, and it has to be funny (and I know Shakespeare's plays can be funny) like Time Bandits. That movie was güd.

OK I haven't read any of them other than Tempest and Macbeth, and watched countless plays (and performed as "narrator 2" in one when I was 10) of Romeo and Juliet. Still, it just doesn't quite tingle my mindbuds (tastebuds of the mental world) I guess.

WHAT IS REALISTIC ABOUT MOTHERFUCKING THE TEMPEST
No one's asking your mindbuds to be tingled, only that they SHOW RESPECT

That was actually my admittance to the fact that most aren't very realistic, and when I said it was reaistic I was referring to MacbethJewish Candy wrote:WHAT IS REALISTIC ABOUT MOTHERFUCKING THE TEMPEST

Anyway, my mindbuds must be tingled in order for me to enjoy anything, and Shakespooper doesn't quite cut it

Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
Well, he misinterpreted the prophecies from 'their masters' as suchsaerleiya wrote:I don't really see a misinterpretation here, more of a anticipation of MacBeth's madness.
"None of woman born shall harm Macbeth" was falsely interpreted as "I am invincible - since nobody cannot be 'of woman born' such it must be true that nobody can harm me!" while factually he would be killed by he who was born through Caesarean section. AlsoApparition: bloody child wrote:Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn
The power of man, for none of woman born
Shall harm Macbeth.
was falsely interpreted:Apparition: child crowned, with tree in hand wrote:Macbeth shall never vanquish'd be until
Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill
Shall come against him.
"Who can sway a tree so that it will take up its roots and come to me? Nobody - that cannot be. I cannot be vanquished, see!" While the forces of his foes used the trees themselves as cover as they chopped them down and carried them towards his castle. And as such, one by one, the prophecies unfolded and Macbeth was defeated through his arrogance and misinterpretation of the oracles' words.Macbeth wrote:That will never be
Who can impress the forest, bid the tree
Unfix his earth-bound root?
It's also interesting to think about what the symbolism was of the apparitions in the first place. A crowned child with a tree in hand? It strikes me as rather Norse or Celtic a symbol, you?
Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
I wanted to say that because they knew he would interprete them as such, because he alrady had a "problem": prophecies are known for being sources of misunderstanding because of the sense of their sentences. The "woman born" one is kinda tricky, I can tell, but the thingy with the forest is qutie understandable with a bit of practice.

Re: Pluses (+) and minuses (−) of this day.
I'm not sure they wanted him to misinterpret them. They bid him as his servants. He is their king, their prophecies are gladly his. It is up to him to interpret them as he wishes, and he does so foolishly.
But yes, oracles are nasty snakes that always give you double-sided advice. If taken one way and acted upon that, they can always turn the meaning of their phrase around and laugh at your face for the stupid acts you performed following their misleading advice.
But they never would. They're just tricky. They voice the words of the Gods and in the case of the witch's apparitions, they voice their own prophecies just the way they'd like to. That we mere mortals don't immediately understand what they wanted to tell us is our fault for being so stupid in the first place. They can't help that.

I agree with saerleiya, I think they misled him on purpose, to confuse him. Was there not some witch mother or something that scolded them? The witches live for evil, not to help some petty human, so they stopped helping him and lead him to his death.

Witches are not evil or living for evil. In that particular case, they are the avatars of fatality. They don't abuse MacBeth, they simply reveal his trueself by giving him what he doesn't want to hear. There is no real trick here, because while all the play is about lyign and deceiving, you can say the witches are telling him the truth, although in a very uncharacteristic way. MacBeth is fooled by his hidden ambitions, his cultural influences ("fuck dem witches, pure evil". Of course, witches are evil in the middle age :/!). He hears what he wants to hear, nothing more, nothing less.
