Yeah you can reanswer since this one has been up a while. It's in both the Sonic The Hedgehog 3 and the Sonic & Knuckles sound tests, it can be heard elsewhere too in one of the games

OK so in Sonic & Knuckles sound 28 is the same song.

Ohhh..it plays in the continue screen for Sonic 3, Sonic and Knuckles, S3&K, and it plays when you attempt to link Sonic and Knuckles with a non-Sonic game.

Fun fact: I also must point out that this also plays in Blue Spheres when you first start up the game (same no way screen) and will continue playing until you input a correct password to a stage.

Good enough. It also plays when you link Sonic 1 to the cartridge which is where you get to play the spheres game

EDIT: It's also a different tempo, it's faster in Sonic 3.

Sorry I took so long to respond, but doesn't this play in EVERY level at some point, except the levels with -4 in the name (fortress levels. for example, 1-4)

I probably should have said which levels is this the main theme on but since that's what the question says it does play at the end of every level but castles yeah.
