What the hell is this?
What about freedom of speech?

Freedom of speech? What's that got to do with it?
If Microsoft doesn't want you to swear on their new service, they have absolutely every right to enforce that. I don't care personally, I don't find it difficult not to swear as I have control over my vocal cords.

I do find it a tad bit ridiculous.
It isn't a big deal for the people who can easily control themselves, but people like me who just kind of swear on a daily basis, like "How the fuck are ya" or something along those lines. It just becomes ingrained in peoples brains. XD

That is pretty fucking ridiculous, and I see no reason as to why they did this. I don't believe Microsoft honestly cares for the few little kids that may see a video (Because XBox likely attracts a more grown up audience unlike Nintendo) including their product.
In other news, the XBox One is selling incredibly well. Can't believe people actually thought it would fail until the last day it got released.

So could you get banned for swearing on skype from a computer if your account is tied to Xbox Live?
Not that it is an issue with me, but this is something I would see Nintendo doing, considering the kind of games the Xbox One will have.

I do have control too but many people don't. I see it as unfair thing to do anyways, and yes, freedom of speech is important and people should express how they want to.

I think it's pretty fucking stupid, given that I swear constantly when talking to my friends. I don't want a shock collar around my neck. If this is actually as extreme as it's made out to be, I would accidentally get myself banned in the first minute, even if I were to consciously try not to.
Though, what I also think is pretty fucking stupid is that the kid in the video was saying "Microsoft lied about not spying on your calls". What does spying have to do with it? It could literally be as straightforward as a simple software integration that detects those words without even holstering a cache. Going by his logic, homeland security gets alerted every time you unlock the door to your own house.

I take issue if the Skype thing is true, although I answered a Skype call on friday using Xbox One, and swore multiple times and it was fine, so I don't believe it's true.
As far as I can tell, this only affects people who upload videos to the Xbox service of themselves swearing, which is fine. Just use a service like YouTube if you want to make gameplay videos where you swear.
As for freedom of speech, all it means is that the government can't tell you not to say something, it has nothing to do with private companies. If they wanted Microsoft could say "You can only talk in vowels if you want to use our service" and they'd be perfectly within their rights to do so, as you'd have had to accept a user agreement saying so.

Of course, though I also think we have every right (freedom of speech) to complain about the restrictions others have forced upon us. For instance, I think it would be nice if they had a 'contains mature content' flag you can attach to your uploaded videos, instead of blocking you from doing it altogether.

I agree, seems that would be the ideal solution.

Google does that for example. As much as they are annoying, they never terminate channel for swearing on video. They only do if it is racist.

I 100% agree with your statement, even the second part, as you're right that there's probably a bot that automatically detects cursing. People should have the right to make their videos the way they want to, and shouldn't be limited in this regard.
Hopefully Microsoft will realize their mistake when everyone starts turning to their capture cards and/or using the phrase "Sugar Honey Iced Tea."

So in the name of science, I am skipping college tomorrow as I'm going down with my brother for the midnight launch of the PS4. And then I'll stay up and watch/play it. I'll post whatever thoughts I have as soon as I can.

Wasn't PS4 already launched? Is Ireland getting it late or something?
Still, Gaming > College
Good choice!
It is much easier to catch up what was done in College than to catch up the epicness of PS4. This is a lifetime thing while College is pretty much every workday I assume.

PS4 only launched in America, I assume. Tomorrow (or midnight tonight), is the European release, if I'm not mistaken.
Well, I normally prioritise my education, but considering how Fridays are mostly waste days (I spend more time waiting for and travelling on buses, and waiting for class to start, than I do spend in class. I only have two classes on Fridays, each an hour long), and that my attendance is pretty good so far, I don't mind staying home.
Plus, my course is Computer Games Design - hence why I said, "In the name of science"! :V
It's likely my main tutor will ask if anyone picked it up, so I can give impressions or something.
There's also the fact that my brother will be up all night with it regardless. This, coupled with my general inability to sleep, means I will be way too tired for college tomorrow. I'll nap before I go, and I'll lie in tomorrow, and then I have the weekend to recover and work on college assignments.
I may also record some footage with my friend's Elgato. It won't be 1080p due to some restrictions, but it should be nice.
I'm not particularly excited due to the launch line-up not really interesting me (though Contrast has my attention), but hey, it's a new system. It's always a nice experience to get one in the house.
