It's up already?!? Dang, I was kinda hoping to pledge to the Origins tier, guess not :(

Will I be able to buy the expansion pack outside of the Kickstarter?

It’s only been like a day or so, and the fundings are still rising, wow!

Not too too into the board game, but I’m curious to see how much more attention and funding this will receive in the span of the 20 days it’s up.

RANT INCOMING :hips:

Personally, while I think it is cool that we are getting anything Rayman at all, I can't help but be irritated by the ideology on display right here. At what point did everyone accept Rayman Legends as the default for the series just because it is the most recent game? The first three games might as well have not existed at this point, aside from the small glimmer of hope that was the DLC with some nods to the old games (though that has since fizzled out now that Soliani has left, I really thank him for the effort). The recent Youtooz was heavily Ubiart based in its appearance, and now there is an entire board game centered around this one installation just because it is the most recent game. How cool would it have been to see any sort of Rayman 1, 2 or 3 representation? All people seem to care about anymore is Legends or Origins.

Also, an entire BUBBILIZING mechanic in-game when it is pretty much blatant inflation? Wonder if they will keep the Barbara panty shots in the card art. Gonna be a pass from me :fou:

Expansion and add-ons are designed to level-up your experience with Rayman® The Board Game, offering both gameplay enhancements and cosmetic upgrades. These extras are available exclusively as add-ons to the base game and cannot be purchased separately.
I don't rate your chances there I'm afraid. I hope that they'll release them later on if the game does well, but I wouldn't take that as a likelihood at this point.

Ok can't tell if you're being facetious with that last line but on the whole I don't completely disagree with you on them going for the UbiArt aesthetic. For better or for worse I suppose Legends has the most staying power given its recency and folks in general are likely to be more familiar with that than the OT as a result, but yeah, it'd been nice to have seen some classic Rayman rep. I did state earlier that I hope if the game does succeed we may see future expansions that branch out to classic games, but that is very much a pipe dream.

Bubbilizing is a big joke in the Rayman group I'm in so I wouldn't take it too seriously  And yeah, I think unfortunately because Legends has the most reach outside of the fanbase itself due to the fun gameplay, it is, for the time being, going to be the face of Rayman. I know of multiple people who don't even know about any of the other Rayman games, but due to the fact Legends is so fun to play, they still swear by it being the best Rayman game despite not trying the others.

On a side tangent, what is your thoughts on Barbara becoming a main character beside Rayman and Globox? I personally don't feel it's that deserved. When people look at Rayman and Globox, or even the Teensies, they have a general understanding of their personalities and how they would behave in certain situations. Barbara's personality is...girl who wields axe. I just don't think she deserves to be a main character, frankly. Not where it stands now when she is just simply a character design that people like.

What I would like is if they did something more substantial with her and made her a character to care about before tacking her on with Globox and Rayman

Hey there!
My main problem with the board game is that it leans wayyy too much into Legends, despite promised stuff from older games. I don't ask them to have stuff straight from Rayman 2 or first Rayman, but at least they could add Origins Betilla to it, as it's also one of recent games in Rayman basically (2 years older, but still, both Legends and Origins are the most recent Rayman games without counting mobile games). Like where is Betilla? Where is Magician?... Oh right, he blew up...... But we have his clones now from Legends, Dark Teensies... oh wait, they got stuck in butt moon.

But seriously though, where is all that older games stuff that was supposed to be? Not even stuff from Origins here... All I see is Legends and I kinda get tired of it, despite being Legends fan.
And also why Barbara's skins are getting figures.

This is especially considering they're an indie company based in Montreal. In fact, their team consists of 10 employees if we include the (co)founders.
True, and honestly I’m glad they’re getting so many donations. I thought we’d never get past 1K :hap:

Oh my gosh, I do wish they had at least done something to flesh out Barbara, before you know, they had put her out as a prominent character in the world of Rayman. I never really got much personality out of her when I first played Legends.

This is what really gets me. They were like. Hey, we’ve introduced new characters but this one is the coolest of them all, trust us! We’re even gonna put her in every single trailer as the predominant character and make her one of 2 main characters in rayman legends! Y’all will love that!

Her idea was pretty interesting, especially since the only playable female character was Teensy Queen (still love the queen) and her being barbaric viking, I guess viking fan is waking up in me. :mryellow:
But she doesn't have much personality at all, like she uses her ax and smiles a lot, and it's cool but... That's it? Really? :|
The only hint is her smiling a lot, but everyone does that as well like Rayman, Globox and Teensies in Ubiart.

Yeah, I think I'm ambivalent towards Barbara, she's aight but her character design never screamed Rayman to me. But we've had the whole "human-like" characters in Rayman discourse back when Legends was first shown off if memory serves so I ain't gonna dwell on that too much xD

But I will not stand for the blatant Ly erasure, she's a character who deserves a comeback.

imagine how many people they could’ve pleased in legends just by the simple move of bringing ly back. She was the last rayman female humanoid character without the huge features

They could've brought Ly back as a skin :/ Or tried, at least, and ended up with another Tily  In any case, there's some wasted potential there.
I think the main skin is supposed to be Betilla barbarian-ified? She has very similar colors at least.

(Also, this got me thinking about the other female characters in the series and now I wish that just like they brought back Rayomz from the RRR prototype, they had brought back Cielle from one of the other 1000 cancelled Rayman 4s as a skin :( )

I still can't wrap my head around what happened with Tily. Even with talking to the original modeler of the Arena Ly model, he had no idea why they went with Tily instead. It remains a mystery

It’s probably because they wanted to create the best rayman character of all time! I’m more annoyed that they redesigned Betilla

I’m curious who’s going to choose these Barbara skins as their character? I can think of a couple reasons why people would choose the other Rayman&Globox skins but not Barbara…
