I'm going to be honest here, Barbara happens to almost look like a fantasized version of the real life me, red hair and all. So, she'll probably be the one I end up playing as the most, even though she isn't necessarily my favorite. Therefore, I don't need any alternate skins for her! I do have a friend who likes using some of her variants in Legends, thoughThe Jonster wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:24 am I’m curious who’s going to choose these Barbara skins as their character? I can think of a couple reasons why people would choose the other Rayman&Globox skins but not Barbara…

Re: Rayman: The Board Game
My thoughts exactly. I shared a similar point of view earlier in this very topic. I think FLYOS are doing a great job, but if you're gonna make a Rayman Legends board game, then why not call it just that rather than reduce the identity of the entire series to its latest game, which itself is part of a sub-series (the UbiArt games) that many have grown tired of? Unfortunately, even some of the folks at Ubisoft seem to forget that there ever were Rayman games before Origins...SilverLum wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 5:19 am Personally, while I think it is cool that we are getting anything Rayman at all, I can't help but be irritated by the ideology on display right here. At what point did everyone accept Rayman Legends as the default for the series just because it is the most recent game? The first three games might as well have not existed at this point, aside from the small glimmer of hope that was the DLC with some nods to the old games (though that has since fizzled out now that Soliani has left, I really thank him for the effort). The recent Youtooz was heavily Ubiart based in its appearance, and now there is an entire board game centered around this one installation just because it is the most recent game. How cool would it have been to see any sort of Rayman 1, 2 or 3 representation? All people seem to care about anymore is Legends or Origins.
I don't think humans belong in Rayman's universe, period. It's just a Legends thing, a game could be described as a surprising crossover of the Glade of Dreams and the world we live in, but clearly not a staple of the series itself.SilverLum wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 6:27 am On a side tangent, what is your thoughts on Barbara becoming a main character beside Rayman and Globox? I personally don't feel it's that deserved. When people look at Rayman and Globox, or even the Teensies, they have a general understanding of their personalities and how they would behave in certain situations. Barbara's personality is...girl who wields axe. I just don't think she deserves to be a main character, frankly. Not where it stands now when she is just simply a character design that people like.
Anyway, gonna go for the Legends pledge anyway because why not.

Re: Rayman: The Board Game
I think I would be more okay with the series taking after Legends so much if the characters in that game were more like characters, rather than silly little playable guys. In previous games you get a really good idea of who the characters are and how they see each other--Rayman, Globox, Murfy, the Teensies, Ly, Andre, et al all have distinct personalities and ways of interacting. In Rayman Legends, I have no idea how Rayman feels about Barbara or vice versa or how she feels about any of the other characters because it's a storyless game with no dialogue, so it's impossible to develop any sort of attachment to her.
This isn't to say the old games had brilliant characterization and worldbuilding, but I love that they made a serious effort sometimes.

I think I might buy the retailer tier with the expansion pack! What do yall plan on getting on the KS?
Or I might get the essential tier, as that would come with those cool luck ticket extras, what do yall think I should do?

I’d recommend getting the lucky tickets, as it can’t hurt to just pay a bit more. Also…

The retailer tier is for actual retailers, I think you have to go for the Essential tier anyway.lyndo64 wrote: Thu Sep 19, 2024 3:33 am I think I might buy the retailer tier with the expansion pack! What do yall plan on getting on the KS?

It’ll feel surreal when I first see this game in stores
Re: Rayman: The Board Game
Yeah, I was a bit disappointed in the lack of Rayman 2 (and other games) representation, but the naked Rayman figure more than makes up for it.

There's a fair amount of 3D models on the interwebs as is in fairness. There's a 3D printable version of the Leptys statue for example: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/ra ... tys-statue

That's also what first popped into my head when I saw her on my very first playthrough, ten years ago. It fits in with the world that has sorta collapsed over the course of a hundred yearsDroolie wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 7:25 am I think the main skin is supposed to be Betilla barbarian-ified? Re: Rayman: The Board Game
I was so saddened to see in the original post you linked that Rayman's musical identity had been condensed down to only include the Ubiart soundtracks. The way that the first three games have been buried by time is horrendous and is why I fight so hard to bring relevance back to the trilogy with my art. I refuse to draw Ubiart simply for the fact that any cultural relevance Rayman has is already so deeply saturated with it.Hunchman801 wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 9:41 pm

And I fully agree with the idea of humans in the Rayman universe. It is a dreamscape, and one that has always been filled with colorful and unique dream-like beings. I wish there was any whimsy regarding Barbara, but she is just "human viking princess" and it is such a mind boggling choice to make her a main character. The only thing I would assume is that she exists to pull in a female player base, but there were a few other choices already established in canon for that.

My mum actually disapproves of Barbara. She finds is stereotypical that female characters are either princesses or fairiesSilverLum wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2024 6:56 am I wish there was any whimsy regarding Barbara, but she is just "human viking princess" and it is such a mind boggling choice to make her a main character. Re: Rayman: The Board Game
Huh when you put it like that, I'm now trying to think of prominent characters from the mainline games that wasn't either. So far I've got Space Mama, Uglette and Begoniax.
Truth be told, tokens for any of those characters would be sick.
