Well they were all really long so I wanted to break them up into different subjects, sorry about that.
Hunchman801 wrote:Many thanks for the information, syntheticgerbil ;) However, there's something I'd like to add:
syntheticgerbil wrote:As far as I know the ones on PC CD, Saturn, and Playstation are all identical. They were all released about the same time. The Saturn one probably runs the best of the consoles because it's made for smooth 2D graphics over 3D. I don't know where you guys got the idea that they have different music tracks.
Actually, there are several differences. I don't know about the Saturn version, but I can tell you that the PS version features foreground sceneries (which can be annoying as they sometimes totally hide Rayman), a different resolution (640×480 vs. 632×400 for the PC version), a huge present in the world map and many differences through the levels, such as the position of cages, enemies, etc. There are even a few levels, for example the first map of Bongo Hills, which were entirely changed in the PS version.
That's all I can think about, and I haven't finished the PS version yet, but it sure is different ;)
Wow, I guess Ubisoft is a very busy company making so many versions all the time. Now that you mention it, I wonder how different the Saturn version is in comparison... And I wonder if the PC version adds things or takes them away...
spiraldoor wrote: @syntheticgerbil: That was awesome of you to tell us so much! I thought you may be able to give us a little info about 2D Madness 2, but...WHOA! I can't believe you typed that in less than 24 hours!
I'm a huge Rayman fan and seem to go through tons of versions as I get rid of some of my consoles and end up rebuying the Rayman games a lot. I wish I could figure out how to unlock 2D Madness 2 though. I think the Gamecube stuff was added on by Ubisoft Shanghai so I don't know who would know.
spiraldoor wrote:Hey, I just thought of something...does R3 for GBA have a secret 1000th lum, like nearly all versions of R2?
EDIT: syntheticgerbil, did you do this?
I'm a little bit hazy but I'll check later for you and confirm on my GBA, I'm at work right now... I didn't write that walkthrough, but I do remember unlocking Mega Havoc 4 and then I'm pretty sure by beating that you get a level where there is only one yellow lum. That walkthrough seems right and I'm pretty sure there are 1000 lums.

I don't remember what the posters name was and Ubisoft or hackers or something erased all the official board archives. It would have been around 2006 it was posted though.

They deleted a screenshot of 2D Madness 2? -___- Their assholeness goes deeper that I thought...

Hm, what can you remember of the screenshot? Did Rayman look like he did in the original game, or did he look more like he does in the GBA version of Rayman 3?
You said it was in Picture City; did it have any sprites and backgrounds or stuff from Rayman 1?
Did you see any enemies there?

I'm gonna insult ARZO...

Note for ARZO : When you hack RaymanZone, next time don't delete interresting stuff, please ?

I think he would look like he did in Rayman 3, as in 2D Maddnes 1

I would think they used the original Picture City background, it fits great in a 2D game :D

Not owning a GBA, nor havin a non-Gamcube version of R3, I don't even know what 2D Madness 1 looks like...are there screenshots anywhere?

I've found the color schemes of the spiky fruits in the original Rayman to be quite interesting. From what I hear, the PC version's spiky fruits are all red, while the PlayStation version has orange small ones, red medium-sized ones, and purple large ones. In addition, I hear that Moskito also has an alternate color scheme. I have the PlayStation Greatest Hits (NTSC|U/C) version though, and it does not have these color differences. All fruits are red, and Moskito looks the same as Bzzit. Hunchman801 said it had the color differences in both of his PlayStation versions (NTSC and PAL), though it seems like what he has probably isn't Greatest Hits. It boils down to: for some reason, the color differences were reverted in the re-release, which I happen to find quite an interesting move. (The levels were unmodified PlayStation levels and everything though.)

That is indeed true, the colour differences. But you're saying they re-released it and then changed it back? That's interesting...

Yes, as I own the re-release (as in Greatest Hits, or to many of you, Platinum) and it keeps Moskito looking like Bzzit and all spiky fruits red.

I removed the healthbar tough; it doesn't fit in the mini game. It should be in Rayman 1 style.

From what I remember the 2D Madness 2 shot had Rayman wandering around books and pencils but just like that screenshot Joshua posted with the 3D Rayman in it, but I don't remember any enemies, although they probably are in there.

Also I checked for you, on Rayman 3 GBA, there is a last level where you collect the 1000th lum. You don't unlock anything but it does allow you to access to 10th special level when you have it plugged into Rayman 3 on GC if you have 1000 lums.

syntheticgerbil, when you walk to Forgotten Forest on the Rayman 3 GBA map level, then press the Left button, it tells you to connect it to your Gamecube. I don't know if you know this, or if it's supposed to be a secret feature or something. I just thought I'd say it.

Yeah I've already done that. That's how I unlocked the extra 10 levels in GBA and made 2D Madness 1 appear on the Gamecube version.

Curses! There must be some way to unlock it...maybe you could see a hypnotist, who could unlock your memory of the username of the person who posted the 2D Madness 2 screenshot...? Or we could ask someone who's been around forever, like Phoenixan, who might recall...?

Well then we should start the worldwide web 2D Madness 2 search project  I currently don't have time for it tough :(

Yeah, except for some reason most people don't own Rayman 3 on Gamecube and Gameboy Advance as well as having the hookups.

But loads of people have DSs and Wiis, right? The DS and Wii can be connected wirelessly in some way, right? Maybe if you put the R3 GC disc into a Wii, and the R3 GBA cartridge into a DS, they could be connected? Probably not, though.

Anyhow, I found out that the PS3 game Resistance 2 and the PSP game Resistance Retribution can be connected via USB cable, unlocking an alternate storyline in Retribution...that's a very GBA-GC connection-style feature...the PSP already has a GBA emulator...if the PS3 gets a Gamecube emulator, then you could download R3 GC to PS3, R3 GBA to PSP, and connect them via USB, possibly unlocking GC-GBA connections, if the emu-coders thought of it...

Hmm... I have no idea if the DS connects wirelessly to the Wii, since I don't own a Wii. Sounds plausible though, but it might be harder if it's connecting a Gamecube game in a Wii to a GBA game in a DS...

Also I know soon when the DSi comes out, new owners of the DS will no longer be able to play GBA games.

I went ahead e-mailed Ubisoft again, but I doubt they will help me, as usual.

Also I found something else out here:
http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.h ... rid=120640
"2D Nightmare
Requirements: Beat the game
Description: I think you need Rayman 3 for the GBA to play this."

The walkthrough doesn't say how to unlock it, but "2D Madness 2" might actually be called "2D Nightmare." Although I can't confirm any of this.
