Mr. Bean's Holiday: This movie was funny. Atkinson you little hero, you funny little dude. I was surprised by how progressive the design choices of the movie were - Bean, who is usually childishly competitive and selfish, learns to finally overcome that. It's such a nice charming way to end the character, and my god, it was hilarious. These skits full of wits. I especially liked the part where Mr. Bean leaned forward and exclaimed "Bean!", the treble on his voice was really outstanding.

300 was good, the comic aesthetic was a bit hard to get into but is is overall a good action movie and the fight scenes are just legendary.
I watched Terminator 2 today, and it was the first time !
It was really good, and surprisingly aged very well, the FX were also damn good !

Yeah I know what you mean with 300. Feels like separate clips mashed together. Difficult to immerse yourself in especially with the involvement of the supernatural. The fighting is incredible though.
All terminators are good IMO. You should watch them all in sequence.

War of Planet of the Mario Brothers: Real, real good Merio, I liked it a lot. It's a relentlessly dark movie with a lot of themes about hate and tribalism, it's almost sort of like the end scene of the original got stretched out into a full movie. And even better is that the focus was almost entirely on the apes themselves, which were the highlight scenes from Dawn. And the presentation was all outstanding too: Probably the best CG animation ever, Andy Serkis' performance was fucken grate, and the score was pretty sweet too. It was like Mario vs. Bowser on a societal scale!
I did have a fewwww nitpicks with the movie thought, I thought (Spewliors!) was a jarringly corny moment for such a moody movie, and But hey, hey hey hey, overall I reallly enjoyed this trilogy.

What did you think of the comic relief character? i thought he was just the right amount of silly to lighten up the sombre tone

Re: Movies you just recently watched
I saw Kimi no Na wa yesterday, and I thought it was excellently done. It wasn't too convoluted but at the same time I didn't feel like it was using "eh whatever it's just a cheesy anime" as an excuse to write off some of the more nonsensical things, and there was somewhat of a deeper meaning to it all.
I expected it to be pretty cheesy and centre around the antics of switching with another person, but it only took up a relatively small amount of the focus and most of it was more sci-fi-ish and kind of dramatic and interesting.
The art style is mostly the typical anime style but now and again there were some incredibly good bits of artistic animation which used a less typical style.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets
Boring, lazy, pandering, unfocused, unfunny fucking SCHLOCK! The only reason any of it felt occasionally creative was probably because it's based off a comic that looks way cooler than the movie. Dane DeHaan is a spectacularly bad actor, he knows basically one tone of voice and facial expression, neither of which express any kind of emotion, and that's what he does for the entire movie. He felt like the exact same character as he was in A Cure For Wellness - a slight douchebag with a sarcastic sense of humour who reacts indifferently to everything, making him just really unlikable and unrelatable. I think in that movie it sort of worked with the grim tone they were going for, but here he's supposed to be playing a bad boy character who's assertive and a "lady's man", it's the worst casting choice I could've come up with.
They're going for this sarcastic, cynical humour and it just falls flat every single time. Here's Valerian attempting jokes:
- Shop keeper: Welcome to my store Dane
- Dane: Yeah, I bet you're trying to welcome me
- Hotel owner: We hope you enjoyed your stay
- Dane: Oh yeah, course I enjoyed it! Cause sleeping in a bed is so fun!
- Waitress: Is the food good?
- Dane: Oh yeah, your terrible meals are great!
And this goes on throughout the entire movie.
There's also Rihanna in the movie because I guess they needed something to market it with, considering her appearance is literally a pointless filler scene. She also voices over a CG character which was alright. The only real positive I can give is the "visual spectacle" was pretty good, it's all colourful and nice to look at, and I'll give them some props for making CG characters act pretty human-like.

Yeah he was fine, I think a lot of movies have kind of done the same thing (he's basically Dobby from Harry Potter) but I don't really mind because they're usually written well.Bzzit wrote:What did you think of the comic relief character? i thought he was just the right amount of silly to lighten up the sombre tone

Yup, although some uglies were just legendary !Harold-_- wrote:Yeah I know what you mean with 300. Feels like separate clips mashed together. Difficult to immerse yourself in especially with the involvement of the supernatural. The fighting is incredible though.
Unfortunately for now I just have the 2, it will certainly change very soon.Harold-_- wrote:All terminators are good IMO. You should watch them all in sequence.
Of course, you should definitely check out RocknRolla, it was really awesome, but if you want an epic action movie there's Mel Gibson's last movie, Hacksaw Ridge, the action scenes managed to beat those of Private Ryan, in addition it is a true story that's just unbelievable.Harold-_- wrote:I watched Saving Private Ryan last night. :O

RocknRolla and Hacksaw. Ill go check them out tonight
Re: Movies you just recently watched
For RocknRolla though, I suggest you the Canadian French dub that does it just perfectly.

Re: Movies you just recently watched
Just saw Spiderman homecoming. It was a very fun movie, I really liked this iteration of Peter Parker and how a lot of the movie focused around him having to become his own man, it made for some pretty cool character development. Also a lot of surprisingly funny moments too that I wasn't expecting. All the cliches of your typical teenager growing up through school while living an alternate identity weren't present. Absolutely nothing felt overdone, it's incredibly simple and straight to the point. I really gotta check out more Marvel movies for sure.

< watched Shaolin Soccer with some friends the other night, it's got to be one of the funniest movies < has ever seen with some genuinely cool martial arts scenes. It's by the same director and has many of the same cast as Kung Fu Hustle which is one of <'s all-time favourite movies

I watched the Tom & Jerry Willy Wonka movie a few weeks ago and it was a special snowflake of a movie.

Lol no. So much of the animation was just so wonky.
Alas any Tom and Jerry spinoff movie has got to be miles better than the 1993 movie.

It's been a few days I didn't watch a movie. I'll watch one tonight so I have enough time to think about what I should watch.

Just watched the Summer Catch movie. Not the best baseball movie but it was good nonetheless.
