Making a good game like Rayman 1 or 2 is like making a good movie; there's countless examples of movies you enjoyed, or rather liked, even. However, there's probably a lot less examples of really excellent movies, ones with a brilliant storyline, pared with great acting and an amazing film score. The same applies to games; either everyone on the team is completely in tune with one thing, or they're in tune with another, or maybe not in tune at all. The atmosphere in gaming seems to have disappeared. Even FPS games like Halo are suffering - 1, 2 and 3 had a great storyline I really enjoyed. Along came ODST, and, while it is a fun game, it is very short, has a nice, but not excellent story and is basically just a filler for if you have two hours to spare. Reach was a bit weird as well. The atmosphere wasn't there at all, even though the scenes were beautiful, the voice acting was rather good and the story was still nice.
I just hope the heads at the Rayman team - RayFan is correct to lay that position in Ancel's way, but there are others too - regain the creative spark they had when making Rayman 1 and 2. And of course, it won't be the same people working on the new games as it were working on those, but they should follow the same guidelines as the others did. We'll just have to see in what direction the series goes.

And else, we'll always have Revenge of the Dark! ;)

And else, hey, maybe that will work. I still feel a creative spark burning nice and bright.

This might interest the European costumers of PSN: Rayman 1 for PS1 got a definitive price cut. It is sold now for 2,49€ instead of the previous 4,99€. I think like this I might consider getting the digital copy in PS3.

EDIT: Crap, the offer ends at 19th September. :tssk:

Then roll out and purchase while the offer lasts!
I'm already in possession of the PSN Rayman 1, so I guess they got more out of me.

For how much I would like to get a 20€ Pre-Paid PSN card, I can't buy one before December. It sucks the fact that PSN doesn't accept PayPal for example, and the PSN Cards are restricted for country flags. I'll miss this offer.

Anyone remember the near-impossible jump you have to make in Pencil Pentathalon, the part where you have to slide down the ink covered erasers then jump and quickly helicopter to get through the two curved sets (in some versions) of pencils to safely get to the other side untouched. I don't remember how to do it. The first time I pulled it off I just got VERY lucky, can anyone help me and tell me a certain sequence I can do to make sure I make the jump. I'm on the verge of breaking my controller in half! :fou:

Don't run. Don't jump. Don't stop. Just walk right down the slide and the bouncy rubbers will take care of the rest.

The only instance in which that doesn't work is Rayman Advance, where the sliding speed is slower. It forces you to run, not jump, and tap helicopter at the right moment.

Thank you, Spiraldoor, that helped A LOT. Forth, I grant you 10 wee tings. Also, RayFan, thank you because I plan to play through Rayman Advance pretty soon. That will save hours of aggravation and the damaging of my GBA.

As I've stated before I refuse to look at a walkthrough for the game. But only one measly cage hinders me from my goal of completing the game, it's in Pencil Pentathlon, I would like to ask if in the PS1 version, are there anymore cages in the first phase of the stage besides the one at the begining where your fist has to go behind the fountain pen?

I think there is one. There is one close to the first photographer. Just drop down to get the elf and you will see a cage and a gold fist. Don't deal with the hunter.

Nevermind, I finally found the cage, it was in the second phase in was a somewhat obvious spot, so I can't believe I has missed it before. Oh well, on to the Candy Chateau. BRING IT ON! :hehe:

Ahaha, Master, how could it possibly take you so long to beat a game? It's hard, but it's not that hard. Beat Halo 2 on Legendary by yourself with nothing but a sniper, now that's hard.

I dunno, actually, I started playing the first game back in 2000, but I never did manage to complete it until recently.
I guess I should take factors into account such as periods when I didn't own the game, or my interest being placed elsewhere, but I honestly didn't complete Rayman 1 until 10 years after my first go at it.

What levels are missing exactly in Rayman Advance? I've completed all the levels except for the Candy Chateau and the game seems to be fully intact besides missing the first phase of The Bongo Hills, RayWiki says a few stages are gone and alot of sources say 10 levels are gone. Strange. How many is the game really missing? That game aside, I was wondering is the Sega Saturn version of Rayman worth playing?

Definitely less than 10 levels are missing per se, although some were modified a bit. If they counted every modified mini-level as removed, this could get near to 10. They could also count Bongo Hills beginning twice, since it has two versions.

Saturn version is like PS1 version except with different graphics - some things look better, some do not - and only CD music. If you have Saturn, it's worth a bit, but otherwise, not really.
