I got around to it today anyway. ChatGPT's response didn't contain any blinding new insights, but it did seem to confirm some hunches I had, obviously by scraping some more academic literature which I wouldn't have had a chance to peruse myself! I think my job is safe for now… :mefiant:

I asked it to answer a few questions like Yoda, and it did a pretty good job at it.

Yeah, still can't find a useful use case for it. :oops2:

I would like to test ChatGPT and other AI tools, however I don't know someone that can let me use their account, so I guess I'll have to create one at some point. Btw, has anyone tried one of those Google Collab notebooks for AI art?

https://colab.research.google.com/githu ... 1111.ipynb

I wonder if there is any risks, considering that you need your Google account to use them.

Well I have a couple of ChatGPT accounts linked to my phone number and it isn't a big deal, you don't get any spam in your mobile phone if that's what worries you the most.

I believe the Google account is only used to connect to the runtime, so there's no risk here. If the Colab attempts to access some of your Google data, you'll be prompted to accept this first.

Also, new AI features launching into Workspace:

That's good to know, also I wonder what would be the outcome of this competition between companies and AIs. Some articles that caught my attention:

Amazon's bookstore have ChatGPT listed as an author or coauthor
Mary Rasenberger, executive director of writers' group the Authors Guild, told Reuters: "This is something we really need to be worried about, these books will flood the market and a lot of authors are going to be out of work."

Rasenberger told the news agency she was concerned that the ability to automate creative writing with AI could risk turning the process into a commodity and produce a lot of low-quality books.
ChatGPT launches boom in AI-written e-books on Amazon
Now ChatGPT appears ready to upend the staid book industry as would-be novelists and self-help gurus looking to make a quick buck are turning to the software to help create bot-made e-books and publish them through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing arm. Illustrated children’s books are a favorite for such first-time authors. On YouTube, TikTok and Reddit hundreds of tutorials have spring up, demonstrating how to make a book in just a few hours. Subjects include get-rich-quick schemes, dieting advice, software coding tips and recipes.
Spotify Debuts a New AI DJ, Right in Your Pocket
The DJ is a personalized AI guide that knows you and your music taste so well that it can choose what to play for you. This feature, first rolling out in beta, will deliver a curated lineup of music alongside commentary around the tracks and artists we think you’ll like in a stunningly realistic voice.

I'm trying the new generative AI features in Google Docs right now (it's in preview) and they're really impressive! I feel this has some real potential and the seamless integration is a huge plus.

Elon Musk & Steve Wozniak Sign Open Letter Calling For Moratorium On Some Advanced A.I. Systems
Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Apple cofounder Steve Wozniak are among the more than 1,100 signatories of an open letter calling for a six-month moratorium on the development of advanced A.I. systems.

The letter calls on technology companies to cease training A.I. systems that would be more powerful than the latest large language processing system known as the GPT-4. According to Fortune magazine, A.I. power tends to correlate with the model’s size and the number of specialized computer chips needed to train it.
Here is the petition: Pause Giant AI Experiments: An Open Letter

I am left with the sentence "Powerful AI systems should be developed only once we are confident that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable". When can we be sure that its effects will not be negative? Artificial intelligence is an incredible tool, with gigantic potential; however, as always, the problem is the use we humans can make of it. Are we prepared to use it properly? Will we know how to deal with those who use it in a cruel way? Yes, it is funny to see memes of Obama and Donald Trump playing Minecraft, but who assures you that this will not be used to create serious evidence against someone or to defame other people? Honestly, I think we are still not aware of how important this change is being and probably the only thing it will do right now is to massify the "controllable" problems that exist today.

It is definitely scary how scams evolved with this new technology:

It reminds me of those movies where the characters need to ask questions that only the other would know, so they can tell if it's a real person or something else. To balance things out, a video about being able to communicate with whales:

The precautionary principle has seldom yielded good results and, in practice, is little more than an argument from ignorance. Should we decide to pause AI experiments anyway, this would just be an opportunity for authoritarian regimes across the globe to catch up, so why shoot ourselves in the foot?

Here's Fintan O'Toole's take on the situation:
Before we can come to terms with the rise of chatbots, we have to grapple with a difficult scientific concept: bullshit. It is what chatbots do supremely well.

I find it scary at this point how I can literally go ask an AI something and it will respond with a plausible solution. I think AI is getting too intelligent...

Plausible, but often incorrect. And it doesn't know or care if it's incorrect, hence the use of "BS" to describe the output...

I highly recommend using Cleverbot. Much better than ChatGPT.

Just like ChatGPT, I asked it to write a Rayman-themed creepypasta, and its reply was... "What's that?".

I have actually tested this by purposefully asking about determining music key (A major vs D lydian), and more obscure things like asking it questions about the Ricoh 2A03 (NES CPU) to see if it got all of the information correct. This is more about facts though I suppose, it's more "what should I do" questions that it wouldn't really be able to be relied on for.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman testifies during Senate hearing on AI oversight — 05/16/23:

Also, an interesting comment by manga artist Rokurou Shinofusa (it is from last year, but still worth sharing IMO). This is from an article about Pixiv announcing its policies on AI art:
I believe that the grave situation brought about by the spread of AI illustrations is not a labor problem but an environmental one.

Since AI content can be produced more quickly that hand-drawn art, it will not be very long before the number of AI-generated art exceeds the total number of regular art and photos. Once the internet is overflowing with AI content, image searches will become unusable.

The introduction of a non-native species with strong reproductive ability and the resultant loss of diversity within the ecosystem is not something that can be called progress.
Original japanese tweet

It kind of reminded me of this other quote.

I don't know when I last had a subject being regularly talked about on the news, over lunch at work, over dinner with my family, and here on RaymanPC. This ChatGPT thing sure has everyone talking…

Today I spent a disproportionate amount of time interacting with AI agents and discussing the output with colleagues. I asked Craiyon to give me a drawing of a "flow diagram" (not of anything in particular) and for some reason got six drawings of girls' faces, and three blotches of colour :paranormal:
Then I was like, check out what Craiyon gave me, and one of the guys asked "what's Craiyon", so I asked Bing Chat (same thing as ChatGPT but doesn't need a specific account) and copy-pasted the answer.
After that I couldn't stop messing with Bing Chat, despite knowing I was increasing the sum total of BS in the world. I didn't really spend that much time on it, but it weighed on my mind. I felt as if my own intellect were atrophying, and when trying to do some actual work (Python scripting with Pandas) I couldn't think straight :confus:
Of course I haven't used Pandas in months, so that's part of it, but that act of outsourcing a simple question from a colleague to AI, though done in jest, seemed to have a psychological effect (like taking photos makes you less inclined to remember what you've seen…)

Well that was a crazy post. Hopefully I'll feel more normal in the morning :fou:

I didn't know about it until I saw Plum's post. I'm very sure they must have changed it over these months, basically because it immediately stops the conversation if you try to talk about a sensitive topic related to its capacities or its freedom.

It also surprised me it has integrated DALL-E technology, although it still doesn't seem to work very well... Here's a photo of Rayman smoking
