The source is completely anonymous but
Betilla's appearance matches NotNateDrake's description perfectly...
And so does it for the hooded figure and the eclipse which can be seen in the back at the top...
Well, I'd certainly take a more serious Betilla over the Origins counterpart anytime, which was completely contradictory with her original innocent character...
I JUST WISH THEY DIDN'T GIVE HER LIMBS AND MADE HER A GENERIC FANTASY FAIRY/HUMAN AGAIN GODDAMMIT! YOU. DON'T. JUST. GROW ARMS AND LEGS... WITHOUT EXPLAINING IT!!
As for everyone saying this is AI... Considering Ubi's recent directions or even the Board Games fiasco which occured at some point...
Who's to say this wasn't AI used officially by Ubi themselves, regardless of how inconsistent this would be with the game's actual look?
(In fact, we even confused some of their actual human-made art with AI for the psychedelic artwork from some time ago,
so who's to say it's not just an art style resembling typical AI slop, just like what happened with Age of Mythology Retold-... OH! I see what you did there, Ubisoft!
)
And if that really uses generative AI, then NOOOOPE, I ain't giving any chance or a single cent to this remake EVER! No, no, no, mes amis!
As for what I was gonna post before the new declarations of our dear Totally Not Nate At All, or that monster of a picture:
I hope this reimagining will end up making me eat all of my words from the past few months, and I'll GLADLY eat all of them!
If this is really a full reimagining of Legends that goes beyond merely changing superficial crap like "iT's 3dee nOw iNsTeAd oF 2D!!" or adding bread crumbs of extra content, I may end up being fully on board with it. And despite the Legends branding, considering Back to Origins is still likely to be included, it may even be a rewrite of that whole era!
Genuinely, if this reboots UbiArt Rayman into proper sequels to the classics, or at the very least something more in line with their tone and universe, I'll gladly take this over any of the 2010s' games ANYDAY!
And yeah, if it ends up that way, I already anticipate the fans of these current games will be angry that this going in a grittier and less cartoonishly comedic direction... but Rayman's original identity, was nothing like the total flanderization and overly comedic retcon of 1's cartoon universe that these games have been.
Rayman 2 and 3 were clearly directing the series towards establishing a clear set universe and identity, and even in spite of some imperfections and the humorous tone of Rayman 3, they absolutely took what they were trying to tell seriously enough and the stories had important and meaningful stakes that went beyond just "oh bad guys happenz while we slept, and naw we gotta wake up and save teh world or something!!".
Despair, slavery, pollution, nature VS technology... Rayman 2 had these serious topics in the implicit nature of its story, and Rayman 3 suggested similar bits of that along the tragically self-destructive desire for revenge of Reflux that made him die as a mindless grotesque monster, as well as Globox's sort of "Stockholm syndrome" relationship with André that ended up pushing him into becoming more brave and being at the direct front of challenging a giant godlike monster when he was formerly always a coward in the face of *any* threat.
Ancel always wanted to tell a story through his games, especially regarding ecology (which did show in R2 or Beyond Good & Evil, or even from what
I managed to analyze in Rayman 1's Game Over), but then all of that has been completely thrown out of the window since Origins...
The original Origins (

) and Legends will always exist in their own little bubble, and like Rayman M/Arena, we'll be able to perceive them more as spin-offs that could just do whatever they wanted.
But this... will only be right if Retold is indeed THE step in that right direction, otherwise as its title may imply: it would be just a different telling of a legend, a tale possibly made up by Polokus or some folks from the Glade with embelished details that may not reflect anything which actually happened...
Still... Legends and Origins were far from the priority right now, I'll always stand by that, but it may truly be some good
first steps towards a more cohesive and better written franchise...
Whoops, I triggered the RayTunes alarm!
I agree the design is not perfect, but so far, I VASTLY prefer this over the UbiArt design we have been stuck in the past 15 years, and it truly fills me with joy to see the laser-washing powders will truly be featured as skins.
The expressivity is already less cartoonishly silly as that design was as a sort of dumbed down version of the Rayman 3 one, and I hope Rayman will finally be able to have other "emotions" than just mindlessly smiling all the time or screaming.
Rayman 1 did that so much better than all of these modern 2D entries... and it was with the limitations of 16 years before them. The trailers for Mini did show a step forward towards rectifying that, and its redesign of Mr Dark was completely true to the tone of Mr Dark's classic incarnations unlike the aborted attempts from Origins and Jungle Run, so maybe it'll be better...
EDIT: Well, nevermind! This sloppy new pic certainly doesn't make the design look particularly great, and it's a HUGE tone mismatch with everyone's else faces there!
But hey, Rayman is certainly the best looking one there... Omagash, what's up with Barbara and Globox's faces!? Even Murfy and the Teensie...
As for the "new villain" considering what has just been told... I have what I think is a cool theory! Hear me out!
This is the rewrite of the evil Magician... ya know... "Ales Mansay"
Except this time, he won't be a stupid Teensie rectonning the R1 Magician, but a proper sort of cultist of Mr Dark, and the eclipse may be tied into bringing him back! In fact, on the picture, you can see him surrounded by evil thorny roots... the same evil thorny roots that were visible in the Origins trailer of "Mr Dark", or in the Mini art of Mr Dark himself! We may actually get both if we're lucky, and we'll now have a proper charismatic depiction of the main villain of the UbiArt era!
PLEASE, I HOPE I'm not the one being too optimistic this time!
