Re: Rayman Legends
What makes Rayman Origins valuable is not only the innovative engine, but also the fact that it is the resurrection of an almost dead series.
The end of the awkward Rabbids era just raised the hype for this:
Even when Rayman was depicted as a crazy pervert... this was good, and I remember it was one of the happiest moments of my life (well, not my life, but it was an amazing day).
I also remember the hype that I had for Legends, the engine was so improved, the artstyle was so amazing, that I just went to tell everyone about it, even my mom (and she doesn't give a shit about videogames). What can I say? Origins was decent, but I wanted far more.

Re: Rayman Legends
Yep, mentioned it in an earlier post. I'm really excited for it, and even if we don't get another 3D Rayman after Legends, we still have Ad's game to look forward to.Minor-T5 wrote:Remember guys, Revenge of the Dark.
Yep, that's already kind of obvious. It's unlikely that the demo will be different depending on the console.sergiomonty wrote:Wii U is getting an exclusive demo for Rayman Legends... yeah right. I don't trust ubisoft anymore. They're probably releasing the same demo for Xbox 360/PS3 too. Because "fanbase asks for it".
I doubt the game would bomb, considering Origin's success. Sure, Origins didn't do too well but it was still kind of successful and at this point I'm sure it'll stay that way with Legends. I'm just afraid of what Ubisoft will do with Rayman after that, success or not. Like you said, if the game does tank, then things could get much worse. But I'm more afraid of what will happen if the game succeeds. If they make another 2D game after Legends, I'm pretty sure that a lot of others will get pretty angry, because they're sick of all the 2D games, but then plenty of others will be cheering, and the whole fanbase would split in two. And we really don't need any of that.Master4lyf1 wrote:That is true, but things were worryingly quiet when the series split back in '08 or '09, I'll admit, it did seem like we'd reached the end of the road, my concern is that, even though we're not there anymore, should Legends tank, we could end up in much worse.
However, it's probably me being a little too worrisome, and for that I apologise.
But I think it's more likely that after Legends, Ubisoft will take a break from Rayman and make a sequel to Beyond Good & Evil, so there's no point worrying over anything now.
Exactly. And it's likely that Rayman will "disappear" for a bit. Just think about it, we already had Origins come out not way too long ago, and now we're having a second game come out this quickly. Meanwhile, in the past, the first three games were always released five years after the last one (about five years). And as much as I'd want them to, Ubisoft can't focus only on Rayman, they have other games to make as well. They're already planning on a Beyond Good & Evil sequel, and I really think that after Legends they'll take a break from Rayman and do that. They might go back to him after, but they might not yet because they could be busy with other games, no one knows. But it's unlikely that they'll just completely abandon Rayman forever. Hah, "Rayman forever", see what I did there?Slogbait wrote:Even if Rayman "disappears", it's bound to re-emerge in the future. Sometimes franchises go under for a while because something in the past fucked them up (usually because of the publisher) but fans can be really adamant about getting it back on its feet. That happened to Oddworld for about 6 years, and it's picking itself back up.
Is it the ideal situation? No. Definitely not. But the fact is, even when things go downhill Rayman will find its way back to the top eventually.
Rayman is and always will be Ubisoft's original mascot, so I doubt they'd let him go. Not only that, but a lot of fans are already enraged at Ubisoft for delaying Legends, with many even claiming that they won't buy the game, and letting Rayman go would only make things worse. They'd lose a lot of customers that way.
I think Legends might get a bit successful. Yes, it is a platformer, and no, sadly, platformers are not the shit like they were back in the '90s...But, like you said, Rayman is a game series that started way back in '95. I think it has a chance, because of that fact alone, and also because of the fact that it's well-loved, and even if it doesn't make it big here, I'm sure it'll be all the rage in France. Heh, heh.Slogbait wrote:Then again, not many platformers score really high nowadays. Shooters and racing games are all the rage - maybe an icon as strong as Rayman, with a legacy coming back from the nineties, will present the genre with some good titles.
And then there's always the fans. Revenge of the Dark, Dreambound, my own game and probably at least a handful more will maybe inspire others to at least visit the series if they find the games. Other derivative works as music and artwork will probably keep Rayman alive for a long time to come - if not in games, at least in spirit.
True. I don't really mind that Rayman was depicted as pervert, or that he was depicted as dumb, or the fact that the series ending up going down the comedic road, instead of the dark road seen in Rayman 2. It's still Rayman, and it's still pretty fun - the only problem I have would be with the plots of Origins and Legends, which are pretty weak. But it's more about comedy and having fun in Origins and Legends, and I'm fine with it.sergiomonty wrote:What makes Rayman Origins valuable is not only the innovative engine, but also the fact that it is the resurrection of an almost dead series.

I also must say, I really do like the way Legends is looking. Origins looked pretty nice and all, but it just looked like a regular ole Flash game that you can play for free on the Internet - it looked a bit cheap. Legends, on the other hand, is a very big improvement, visually. Everything looks nice and shaded, and it looks a bit 2.5D to me. Maybe somewhere between 2D and 3D, but not quite 2.5D; somewhere between 2D and 2.5D.

-Also... Mecha Murray confirmed? he has "nemo" written on his body.
Re: Rayman Legends
I believe that "nemo" is a parody to Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea novel. Nemo was the name of a captain.sergiomonty wrote:-Also... Mecha Murray confirmed? he has "nemo" written on his body.
Re: Rayman Legends
Looks incredible! But did he just contradict himself? He said he'd release the entire thing exclusively for the Wii U first, but later he said the dungeon challenge was developed exclusively for the Wii U, implying the others weren't. Could be it's just an earlier release date of the challenge mode for you Wii U owners. Either way, I'm glad they did this - this will make everyone happy.
Re: Rayman Legends
Everybody who's going to download the application at day one, rise up their hand! *Rises up hand*

Hmm... Maybe it's all about the capabilities of the gamepad... or it's just some redundance.Drolpiraat wrote: but later he said the dungeon challenge was developed exclusively for the Wii U, implying the others weren't.
Anyways, if other consoles get it later, there's no problem. I just wanted to play my platforming game and that's what I'm gonna do on April
Hmm.. Rayman Jungle run is a bunch of levels, not even an adventure because you can't control Rayman, and you have to pay not only for it but also the aditional levels... This game in the other hand is completely free, has multiple challenges that change daily and weekly, has multiplayer, beautiful graphics, a ghost mode where you can invite your friends to play... and the leaderboards that we were waiting for since Rayman 3.... *raises his hand with all of his strength and happiness*Haruka wrote:Everybody who's going to download the application at day one, rise up their hand! *Rises up hand*
Re: Rayman Legends
I wonder if some of us will be able to beat the scores of Ancel and other dev members, or even getting in the top of the leaderboards.

Re: Rayman Legends
I guess Verne's books are more popular in France (and for not-French shame), so it's not that unusual of you.sergiomonty wrote:Didn't catch that reference... I must be retarded. It must be part of the water level that they mentioned that was inspired by Jules Verne.

* Challenge mode is available early and apparently gratis for Wii U
* PS360 gets challenge mode with full game, sans the extra challenge
EDIT: This would make sense given the MS rumour.
I wonder whether information about adding new levels was pure PR or something more.
Re: Rayman Legends
Very glad to hear this! Though I may not have a Wii U, I'm still very excited for this. (I'm also surprised no one commented on that Rayman/chicken hybrid.)

Re: Rayman Legends
Of course not c: Jules Verne's books are popular worldwide and I'm completely familiar to his books. Tho... In spanish he's called "Julio Verné". Don't know why.stan423321 wrote:I guess Verne's books are more popular in France (and for not-French shame), so it's not that unusual of you.sergiomonty wrote:Didn't catch that reference... It... it is possible, you know? I mean, the challenge mode could be part of the full game, but the Wii U owners could be the only owners to be able to download it before the game is released. It obeys Microsoft's ridiculous policies about releasing multiplatform games on the same date, because technically the challenge mode is not the game.... just a little part of it.stan423321 wrote: As I understand it:

Re: Rayman Legends
I don't know why people stopped to translate foreign names having the same etymology, but this is out of scope of this topic. Also, I only noted Verne may be more popular in France than anywhere else, not that he's unheard of in other areas.sergiomonty wrote:Of course not c: Jules Verne's books are popular worldwide and I'm completely familiar to his books. Also, if April doesn't suddenly come up early, consider me raising my hand.
Re: Rayman Legends
I'd be raising my hand if I owned a damn Wii U.
It's great to hear we'll be getting something, though. Something way bigger than a demo.

Its normal being more popular in France since its a French writter.stan423321 wrote:Also, I only noted Verne may be more popular in France than anywhere else, not that he's unheard of in other areas.

Re: Rayman Legends
What can I say... for me, Rayman Legends has been an emotional roller coaster, with good, bad, amazing, awful and wonderful news...
The decisions that Ubisoft is making with Rayman are plain lame, and are the kind of bullshit that is ruining the videogame market. Michel Ancel is a complete genius, and I respect him a lot, he basically saved Ubisoft from rageful Wii U owners boycott. He's the kind of clever minds that the industry needs.
Sadly, for Ubisoft, Michel doesn't seem to be as important as Miyamoto is for Nintendo. He just seems to be one member of the crowd... just a leader of a second party/pseudo-indie company.
It's the type of features that 2d platforming games don't have and I'm still wondering why. Y NO ONLINE CO-OP, Y
However, you're still right, this would be the perfect opportunity to create something really dynamic here in the forum!!

Re: Rayman Legends
YOU'RE ALL ON! I'd better practice a lot before I challenge the likes of all the Wii U owners on the forum though. The Development Team having ghosts was pretty nice too. Added, IT'S ALL FREE! For now in April, my thirst for the game will be quenched and I'll be able to best my friends at the same time! Chicken Rayman was rather "interesting", The new, I assume, Bosses didn't look too bad either. I wonder what that three-dimensional muscular skeleton-esqe character is going to be.
