Cinema VS Theatre

Post by Haruka »

Which place do you prefer to go, to the cinema or to the theatre? How frequently you go to any of these?

It confused me for a second, as cinema is often called 'theatre' here. With that in mind, I'll be replacing the noun 'cinema' with 'theatre,' and the term 'theatre' with 'play' or 'musical'.

I chose both. On average I got to the theatre (cinema) to see a movie twice a week or so. Since at my local theatre they only cost $6 for a movie and $2 on Toonie-Tuesday (every Tuesday), I'm able to basically see a film whenever I want for a non-existent price. Once a month or so I also go down to Vancouver's Silver City Metropolis, which is home to one of the largest (non-IMAX-pecific) theatres in the province:

As for plays/musicals, I usually go to see one every month or two. My all-time favourite has to be Two Pianos, Four Hands. All it consists of is two actors and two pianos on stage. Never have I ever seem a theatrical production more relatable and funny than this. Every single joke you could possibly squeeze out of the Royal Conservatory musical learning process is in here, and executed perfectly.

As I am currently in a little town (4500 hab.) and the biggest city is 20 km away from here, I'm not going a lot to the theatre at the moment.

When I was in the suburbs of Paris, I used to go to it once every week. I don't go to watch plays very often, my bad  . Problem is at Paris plays and theatres are expensive, and even for students it's not that cheap : previous year I found great theatres for only 6 € for students, but as I am not a parisian student anymore, I have to buy metro tickets around 2€ each, so this is costing me around 10 € for a movie, not so far from the full price (full price for big theatres : 11,90€. And if you want to watch a 3D movie in this case, you will have to pay 15€. Just expensive as fuck. I understand why parents didn't go to the theatre anymore).

Well, next year I will be back in the suburbs. So I'll watch movies more often.

I go to the cinema a lot more often than I ever did theatre, in fact I have only ever seen at least 2 proper musicals ever - this Dr Doolittle one they had back in 2000, and Avenue Q which I saw in a local theatre last year.

Well we have here theaters/musicals as well as cinemas, but the majority goes to the cinema because it's a lot cheaper to watch a 3D movie then a musical.

I ocasionally go to the cinema when I have the chance, but I go in purpose to Lisbon to watch a movie in 3D.

Now for theatre, the last time I saw a play was in my 9th grade with my schoolmates to watch "Auto da Barca do Inferno". I think I would go more often to the theatre if the tickets per person weren't so pricey.

I go to cinema more often but the theatre is a real treat. I'd love to see the Phantom of the Opera again.

The one advantage of theatre is that they don't have much advertisements yet.

The one disadvantage of theatre is that there aren't many good plays around.

I might well vote for theatre on this occasion.

I like to watch stand up comedy stuff live, it usually makes me laugh way more than a comedy movie. Wait, does that even count as theatre?
