Thanks Bunnieblaster, I wish I had this as a reference when making Rayman AFG animations...
Rayman 2 animations are really good. Rayman 3 are ok, but Rayman 2 are definitely the best :-)

I mean you can't really compare a n64 game's animations and a gamecube's game animations but fine...

Haha these are two different things. The artistic quality don't rely on the processor power... Anyway you you have the right to disagree but give serious arguments.

If anything n64 game's animations should be worse
I do agree that the Rayman 2 animations 'feel' a bit better than R3's, but that's just like my opinion man

Listen, For its time rayman 2 had probably some of the best animations on the n64/dreamcast but the power of the machine does matter in order for the animation to load properly for example rayman 2's helicopter is just a flat spinning ball and rayman'3 helicopter had detailed hair and animation for when you stop using your helicopter trust me that if the processor power would've not mattered rayman 2 would've looked a lot better.
and listen I'm no programmer but I can safely say that the hardware/engine you're using does impact on how the product is going to look.

Ha ha i like this dicussion!
Ok let's compare the fly animation.
Rayman 3:

Rayman 2:

To me R3 looks like he's dancing. R2 is subtle, well balanced, though it looks like there's one frame missing resulting in a cyclic 'pop' in the green screen capture of bunnieblaster.
Fly stop animation:

Bunnyblaster are you going to make green screen anim of R3 so that we can compare

That's true, being a coder and animator I confirm this. But talking about the character animation itself, not the latest shiny technologic effect all around, this does not apply here. It's a matter of how well the body is balanced, the energy it conveys. From this perspective R2 is better to me, but it's a matter of taste too anyway.

Alright maybe I didn't watch the animation before posting my argument... I guess the animations are pretty similar, but I still think the helicopter shrinking is a better animation then the no animation when you stop using your helicopter, also I think Rayman feels more alive with his dancing movement you spoke about, but again that's just my opinion.
