Good! I wonder are they still thinking about how they didn't want it and wanted to push the limits of 3D back in 1994-1995 :P

This is great guys, definitely a step forward in bringing Rayman a little bit closer out of the shadows. A lot of people will be remembering and re-experiencing this gem (devs included) when they buy the ps classic. Have faith in nostalgia to do the future of the franchise good.

I might buy the PS1 classic for the sole reason of it having this game and being 60Hz (I assume) :)

Wow, nice! You can tell they really wanted to make it as retro as possible though (the controllers have no joysticks)

Yeah the original PS1 controllers weren't DualShock and had no analog sticks which is why Rayman doesn't work with analog sticks.

What do u mean slow? I'm in Scotland so I'm guessing I'd have gotten the same version as you. Was the frame rate lower or something?

yup, the European version of the game runs at 50Hz and the devs forgot to optimize it, making it run a bit slower than the American version

Which is exactly why I said this. The game is like 17% slower in PAL 50Hz compared to the NTSC version.

The NES classic was 60Hz and so was the SNES classic, so I'm just guessing the PlayStation will be the same.

Also they didn't "forget", they even changed the height of the screen for the PAL version but just like most other devs back then, they couldn't be bothered to convert the engine and just settled for the drop in speed.

At least they even bothered changing the screen size on Rayman unlike most other devs at that stage where you had 480i squashed on a 576i screen with huge borders.

Oh and for the record, the PAL version of Rayman 2 on PS1 is also slowed down. I wonder if they "forgot" that one too

This is giving me a lot more incentive to buy this because I’ve always wanted the PS version of Rayman 1 for myself (only been playing it on emulator so far). 😃

I'm hoping this is different also since the NES classic was just an emulator too :P

I just found out today that the system will be using PCSX ReARMed, an emulator. I'm not at all impressed that they will be charging €100 for an emulator when you can already use that emulator on PC with a PS4 controller and save yourself €100. SOunds like aside from including Rayman, the system will be nothing special.

EDIT: Aside from getting one for nostalgia, if you wanted a little retro console you'd save yourself money by just getting a Raspberry Pi and setting it up with RetroPie. That way it would play everything.

Yeah, it seems like just an attempt to bring back the PlayStation, but it seems that it won't work that well since they thought of bringing back the true original Sony PlayStation that didn't even have analog sticks at the time. Not only that, but yeah, it doesn't seem like anything special and they haven't even changed anything apart from probably some minor changes.

If it was using hardware instead of emulation then I'd dive on it at launch to be honest, but unless someone gets me one as a gift I'm not sure I'd bother buying it especially at that price. The reason it uses those controllers is because they're from 1994 when the PS1 first came out. Even when Rayman came out (1995) those Dualshock controllers didn't exist (until 1997), hence the reason the analog sticks don't function in the game.

For me though I think it's just basically a novelty for nostalgia, considering it's using an emulator we can already use for free.

Aww, this is very disappointing to hear, so in other words it's not really any better than me using ePSXE or any other PS emulator I'm using now? That figures, makes me wonder if ALL consoles with Classic that come out are going to be like this. :?

It's very likely and it seems like they're just much less powerful than a Raspberry Pi which is much cheaper while being able to do much more. Aside from the nostalgia of owning one, I think these may be just money grabbing devices.
