I had to do training about it before I left my previous job and moved out and basically it's more to do with how businesses/companies both online and off handle more types of data about the people that use it within Europe. It's pretty complicated but I don't think it'll necessarily mean the end of the internet, but for me it did mean a few American websites got blocked.
