Rayman 2: Sanctuary of Stone and Fire

Post by Lol Kuit »

Hi there,

didn't post for a long time, haven't I? :P Anyways, im here to talk about a shitty level in Rayman 2 (The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire). Why? Well, because its a shitty level that shouldn't be in the game! Most of the times I die there (at the point of that 2 balls you have to put on the right colors). Finding those balls isen't that hard, but when you have to surf on lava with that plum thing, it gets shitty. Its SO HARD, that its nearly inpossible to complete that stage!!

I mean, why is it so hard? The fact that it's hard, doesen't mean its bad, but this is nearly impossible! I mostly cheat when I reach that lvl (on the PC version), but I can't on the DS or PS1 version, so the only way to pass that stage, is to try it over and over and over.

And you know what the shittiest about it is? If you die, and you already put the yellow ball on that yellow thing, you have to do that part AGAIN! Thats insane!

Ok, are there more ppl who hate this level? Or are there any ppl who hate other lvls in Rayman 2?

The Sanctuary of Stone and Fire is by far my favourite level in all Rayman games. It is, in my opinion, the one that reflects the most the magic universe of Rayman 2, with an ancient temple in the depths of the earth, in the middle of lava rivers and bottomless pits. Whenever I play it, I can't help wondering what's behind the walls or at the end of a lava flow, who built the sanctuary and why, etc. This is certainly the longest and probably the hardest level in the game, and I can understand why it's frustrating at first try (I remember spending a whole day on it when I was a kid, and swearing I would never play it again), but once you master it, it's a real pleasure to go through this magic level. From a gamer's point of view, the level is far from linear, as it's a real maze, and there are various gameplays, such as plum riding, shell riding and sliding. And of course, the music is great, gets more and more mysterious as you go deeper in the sanctuary, ending with a real masterpiece when you wake up Umber.

As concerns the place where you have to ride the plum with a magic sphere, it's extremely easy, once you've understood that the game does it all for you. Carry the sphere, fall onto the plum, turn backwards, throw the plum in the air and shoot an energy ball, and the plum will just follow you.

In conclusion, I really love this level, and, to answer your second question, I don't think there are any levels that I hate. I find the Top of the World a bit boring, but well, playing Rayman 2 is always a pleasure :)

I finished that level like 3 times, so its not new to me. Not at all. But it took me 2 years to figure out where to go and how to do it, so I know how to finish that level (I finished it without cheating on the DS version), but its still frustrating and I don't like that level at all.

Thanks for ur reply :)

P.S I'm not new here at PC :P (in case you thought)

I'd agree that TSORAF is a horrible level in Revolution, but personally I much preferred it in Rayman 2. It didn't have that impossibility factor that Revolution had - I got angry that I had to keep restarting in one particular part so that I could gain all 80 Lums. Can't say it's one of my favourite all-time levels in the Rayman series, but I don't have a problem with it.

To be honest. I love this level. It has very well done music and it has the true Rayman magical style.

Now if you want a hard sanctuary, head for beneath the sanctuary of rock and lava. That's already very hard in Rayman 2 for PC. Then play it in Revolution. It has almost driven me crazy :P

If only i could lead a Team to create another upgraded version of Rayman 2 (revolution), i would put the PS1 Version and the PC/N64/Revolution version of the Sanctuary of stone an fire all mixed up. I would make some other chanegs aswell, such as the name of this level. :D

EVERY LEVEL IS EASY.... exept for the prison ship.... It gets me crazy when you get to that hole in the part that you get to the 3rd part in the level with those yellow lums around it..

Oh FFS! Why am I making so many errors today? It wasn't a spelling mistake, but I used the wrong word completely. No idea what's going on.

In any other Rayman 2 version you can by pressing on the down key. Doesn't that work for Rayman DS ?

I really hate the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire! If you miss a lum or a cage you must play whole the long level again! >_< It should be a way back.

But I am sure that you can skip the "left level" by standing on a plum and beat you on the gras slope, if you only want have the 3 yellow lums at roof of the temple. I have never manged to do that however...
